It needs to be clarified that the landing site is not at the lunar south pole, or even in the southern polar region. The actual latitude of the site is 69 degrees south, as noted on the Chandrayaan-3 page on Wikipedia. The official ISRO website gives these coordinates for the landing site: 69.367621 S, 32.348126 E. Nevertheless, it was still the southern-most landing on the moon, and any successful lunar landing is an achievement in any case!
