We are two brothers who think we know what's up about videogame music. We use SCIENCE to create epic ranking lists. That is to say - we are extremely thorough and meticulous, and we constantly strive to purge our own bias from the equation to arrive at the "objective" music ranking, or as close as we can reasonably get. Case in point: we spent an entire YEAR perfecting our ranking of the top 100 N64 songs.
There are a lot of RU-vid channels out there which feature ranking lists for video game music. We have given ourselves the lofty goal of being better than all of these; we believe we can provide the best video game music ranking lists available on the internet. And we invite you to come along for the ride.
Maybe you agree with us? Maybe not! In any case, we'll be giving you some great videogame music to listen to. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the SCIENCE.
You have NONE of the FF6 character themes (other than Kefka's Dancing Mad - at 23...), no Fisherman's Horizon, no Tifa's Theme, no Garden Battle, no ARIA DE MEZZO?!? What criteria did you score/rank these songs by? I would assume that a channel called According to SCIENCE would have a rigorous method that they could detail. I would be curious to see it.
Дружище, ты проделал великую работу, сделав такую подборку и, что наиболее важно, написал кучу заметок к музыкальным произведениям. В том что ты пишешь и в том какие мелодии подобрал я вижу родственную душу)
Some good tracks that (I don't think) made this video's top 100 list; 'Otherworld', 'Due Recompense' (and the original 'Opressed People'), 'Sunleth Waterscape', 'Tifas Theme' and 'Somnus'.
MM4 needs like 6 more entries in this list, was Pharaoh man actually the only one mentioned? MM3 has great music, but did you put literally every last song in? How the hell does the MMV ending theme not make it in!? Did people making the list actually play every game? Did they actually beat every game? Did they do it as a kid or recently?
I always thought that IX had the best soundtrack from top to bottom. Roses of May, Wavering Blade, Freya’s Theme and Festival of the Hunt a few of my faves that I don’t think are on the list here.
Jet force Gemini has good soundtracks. I didn't watch the video till the end but I hope to listen to my favorite soudtracks in this video. My favourite soundtracks of JFG is Sekhemet, SS Anubis, Ichor Military Base, Eschebone, Asteroid. Robin Beanland, Alistair Lindsay, Graeme Norgate really did a masterpiece. Till today I listen to this songs while studying or reading some book.
This video's still ticking people off i see, no 'to the edge' no 'wayward daughter' no 'oblivion' no 'Ultima' 'answers, dragonsong, revolutions, tomorrow and tomorrow or flow'? uh sure buddy, any of these could be top ten and everyone of them are better than any of the 14 tracks here, it's like noone listened to the soundtrack let alone played the game, i mean it's not a very long soundtrack or game or anything lol
Read all of your comments and was shocked that you would have the energy to make another video like this after putting out this masterpiece. Good on you for having the drive. You are a better person than I.
33:36 - The actual issue was that the US and Japanese version of the game had completely different intro themes. This one is the US version, and you'll typically only hear the Japanese version if you switch your game version to Japanese, such as you can do in the first Mega Man Legacy Collection from 2017.
Should have stopped watching after like the third MM6 entry. Did stop watching when Pharaoh Man came up and the caption read “This is the only entry from MM4 as the music from this game is relatively weak.” MM4’s ost is far from the best, but it’s a hell of a lot better than 5 and CERTAINLY 6. The only good tracks from 6 are the title theme and the boss theme. The rest of the OST is dog water. To have any of them on the list over Skull Man for example completely invalidates the list.
Loved the vid! Loved all the effort and work that was put into it as well as giving recognition to lesser known games and composers. Would love to see an updated version of the list now but honestly it might be too much, maybe if it was in parts but who knows. I binged this in two days because... sleep. But i never skipped or sped up the video! Hope the best for ya'll!! ❤
Jet force Gemini has a good soundtrack but damn... you make like it has the best soundtrack of this era. This why it's stupid to make ranking, everyone has its own opinion...
Man, the salt in the comments would make the Dead Sea envious. 9 years later, this is still a list of 100 different bangers from the N64 catalogue. I never paid much attention to a song's ranking on the list, this list still has 100 different songs that are nostalgic AF.
I know im heavily bias when i say this but ff9 you're not alone will always be #1 to me. Its not just about fighting for zidane's spirit but more about choosing who you want to be when all the facts are presented. Zidane was created for glory. To basically be a god bringer of death. Zidane choosing his friends over his reasin for existence isnt a simple task. Its like choosing to deny your human nature to save lives since we consume life to exist. The song to me represents the struggle of accepting who you are and who you choose to be when they conflict wirh each other. This reasoning is also why i love FFT storyline. Ramza who is of royal bloodline eventually realized they are the bad guys. They're on top of the foodchain at the cost of the poor's suffering. Hes conflicted wirh denying the ways of his own bloodline for everyone else. In the end he does the right thing which invovled sacrificing himself without getting any sort of credit for it.
@@timnewton-howes5206agreed. I don’t think any FF song aside elicited a more raw emotional response from me while playing it than Not Alone. Aerith’s Theme is the only that compares but that was even more so due to the story context.
First of all, much love and respect to this list. It's a great one, for sure. Props are due to those of you who put it together, especially the extra work that went into the Dual Mixes. And I even like the #1 choice though it caught me off guard. But of course, we each have our faves, and I was sad to see a few of mine missing. I paused the video after #2 and thought long and hard about what the top choice would be. I thought it would be the epic opera scene from Final Fantasy 6. The amount of emotion poured into that entire scene was breathtaking, and I thought it would have deserved the spot. But I understand that the primitive vocals from the SNES sound chip probably held it back. Maybe we'll get our remake of that scene someday, and the choice will be a lot easier! Other than that track, I will profer a few of my all-time favorites. But before I do, I want to say I GREATLY appreciate your love for Hitoshi Sakimoto, who did ground-breaking work on FF Tactics and FF 12. It was great to see many of his phenomenal tracks on the list. I personally missed seeing my favorite Tactics track, "Pressure (No. 1)" (as well as my 2nd fave, "Tension") and my fave FF 12 track, "The Cerobi Steppe." But anyhow, here a few more that would likely be in my top 20: Opening Theme of FF X-2 (aka "Memory of Lightwaves"): I thought for sure it would be one of the remaining "opening tunes" when you said there were two left. Barthandelus battle, aka "Fighting Fate" from FF 13, which might be my favorite boss music of all time. You had a LOT of unexpected love for the FF 15 OST. While I adore Yoko, I was underwhelmed by the soundtrack. And my favorite song ended up being Florence and the Machine, "Too Much is Never Enough." But you did say that you were lukewarm about vocal tracks (which I also am, generally speaking). More tracks from FF4! I was sad that you put so many mobile game songs on your list, and left out so many great tracks from FF4. The glorious FF6 track "Kefka's Tower" which combined high/low elements and energy perfectly. EDIT: I almost forgot, I love that you put a lot of end-game FF8 in there, but you missed my fave! "The Castle" It is also clear that you like prog-rock tracks more than me. You are probably a big fan of Motoi Sakuraba (composer of the Star Ocean and Shining Force series), and I am too! I just feel he does a much better job with prog-rock style tracks than Uematsu. But anyway, you did a phenomenal job with your list. I certainly loved sitting back and listening to all of it. Thank you for putting this out into the universe!
Airbuster (FF7R) is easily #1. You just need to listen. There's so much going on that's even hard to focus. The guitar, the bass, the drums, the orchestra, everything. It's just epic.
