Ok say what you will about Sonic 06 but there is a reason everyone was happy to see Mephiles again, bro is the GOAT. 2024 really is the year of Shadow and it’s amazing bc it lead to a Shadow-centric game, a Shadow-centric movie, and the returns of both Black Doom and Mephiles, both of whom are Shadow’s most popular and dangerous antagonists.
Mario did to DK what the Rabbids did to Rayman, side characters becoming so popular that their games are bigger and overshadow the main series. Mario is arguably the most successful spin off series ever.
That actually makes me really mad that they said frontiers was 3d sonic’s make it or break it. 3d sonic games are my personal favorite. What if they made a game equivalent to forces instead of frontiers. Thats THEYRE fault and theyd be punishing consumer for it🤦♂️
"Mario is a Donkey Kong side character" is nonsensical. The modern DK only shares the name of the DK from the original game. If anything, Nintendo is correct to view DK as a Mario character
At least it’s not like Wario Land where it hasn’t had a game since 2008, never had a physical release on Switch, and gets very little representation in Smash Bros
Look, I dunno why people insist Donkey Kong (1981), Donkey Kong Jr. and Donkey Kong 3 belong to the Donkey Kong series. Despite the name, those games fit a lot better in the Mario franchise, and they ARE Mario games, not DK games. The genre, characters and overall setting of those games belong to a parallel Mario gameplay style, and it's still Mario's platforming gameplay, not DKC. In case you forgot, Mario owns DK, not the opposite. I'd call this series the "Mario vs. Donkey Kong" ramification of the Mario series, alongside the "Super Mario" series. That's how Nintendo has obviously intended it to be so far.
I think that the plusside is that Nintendo did not completly forget about DK. It wouldn't make sense to release a new Donkey Kong game on the Switch. We also have to think about the fact that Retro Studios is developing Metroid Prime 4 currently so maybe there is a plan for a new DK Country game after that.
While mario and his friends gets the adventure. wario/DK/Waluigi and others are stuck on non adventure games like party or sports. i would die happy if there's an adventure 3d game of wario/waluigi/DK but of course to do that you gonna need a story. a lot of concept and voices and theme. bowser's fury is so amazing that playstation wouldn't even bother to focus on toon games but rather battle pass and concord and money. astro bot is success but they just insulted the robot out of money and mockery as they want more money for gambling.... battle pass is pointless and wrong! we need more adventure out there not go for war 24/7... and i sure don't think EA Will ever make an adventure PVZ GW inspired game either..
The remake of (Donkey Kong Country Returns) just means they got some kind of DK game underconstruction. And it's taking longer to make than expected. Samething apply to the Kirby game series.
Seeing how Nintendo mistreats the ip is disgraceful I'd trade in any of those recent mario games just to see a new DK game (never been much of a mario guy to begin with) but keeping hope we'll see a new dk on the switch 2 till than got Metroid Prime 4 can hold me over
It is shameful that Nintendo seems to have such little confidence in Donkey Kong, relegating him to "Mario character #8" makes it seem like they're embarrassed he even exists. I can understand the desire to remake DK64 and fix up its issues, but at this point it would make more sense to do something new and original in 3D that isn't shackled to the limitations of the N64. Look at Zelda: Wind Waker, it's an island hopping adventure that would make perfect sense for DK to emulate.
Fun fact: Miyamoto hates donkey kong. He got competitive with Rare ware about there Donkey kong game. Saying Graphics isn't all there is to games, when he made Yoshie island for the Super nintendo. He's been super salty at Donkey kong ever since.
Gotta wait for Metroid Prime 4 to finish up first. Then Retro might start work on a new Donkey Kong game. And I love Donkey Kong as much as the next guy, but I’ve also been waiting 8 years for Metroid Prime 4.
They DON'T need Retro to make a brand new DK game, though. They could have WayForward or even Playtonic games to make one, given how experienced they are with 2D platformers (and 3D collect-a-thon in Playtonic's case)
@@kazoorion7993 They probably don’t, but maybe they feel like DK Returns and Tropical Freeze were so good, they only want Retro to make Donkey Kong games. But who knows? Nintendo might already have a new DK game in the works from a different developer and they’ll announce it when it’s close to being done.
Always gotta shout it out- look up Donkey Kong Freedom. DK wasn’t meant to get nothing but ports and remakes on Switch. That just ended up being what happened when the new game DK would have gotten was cancelled. And it’s not exactly the first time DK’s been in a slump. After DK64, they just didn’t know what to do with DK after losing Rare. He still got games, sure, but they mostly did weird spin offs and nothing mainline. Between the theme park’s DK expansion, his role in the Mario movie, Returns HD, and rumblings Nintendo want to revitalize the franchise, DK’s future is fairly optimistic. We just gotta wait for the new game, since it’s sure to come in the Switch 2 era.
Right... And Samus is Metroid Side character, Pit is a Kid Icarus side character and Link is a Zelda Side character... Having a game named after you doesn't make you the main character.
@@Guy-cb1oh Samus, Pit, & Link are the main characters in every major title in their respective series. Mario was the antagonist in DK Jr and wasn’t even present in DK3 Although he was the main character in the first title, he’s not the overall main character of the arcade Donkey Kong trilogy series. It’s like how horror movies have multiple main characters, but the central character is always the villains
I've always been a huge fan of donkey kong, and it's been an absolutely brutal last 10 years. Im very hopeful that with the switch 2 we get a revival of donkey Kong in some degree
4:54 I don’t like the movie DK. I don’t like the way Seth Rogen portrayed him because, it just feels like Seth Rogen and not DK. (I don’t watch Seth Rogen but, he seems to act like himself) Also, why give him daddy issues? His humor is also just not it. I miss the old DK 😔
@@subeteking Agreed. It’ll be his redeeming quality. I honestly dislike the Seth Rogen laugh that DK did imo. But, yeah I’ve played DKC on the SNES classic, DK64, Dk tropical freeze and both versions of DK returns. (I last got the Wii one on like June) Oh, and I also got that one racing barrel game but, the controls weren’t my style and I didn’t wanna spend the time getting use to it. But all of those games..I never beat any of them 🫠. (I might as well finish DKC and DKR wii this week)
Seth Rogen was excellent for Donkey Kong for the Ubisoft All Star Kart Racing movie, no matter how he was a show boater in front of AaronMonte and Astrid these two will still get to fight him.
I was extremely disappointed when DKcountry returns Hd. It’s literally the same game with minor differences. A new DK game whenever 3d or 2d, I want a new DK game.
I feel like we should at least get one more 2d game to make a trilogy and then experiment witv 3d. I feel like the next DK game will come sooner than we think though, whether its 2d or 3d
I've been seeing a lot of this type of DK video running around a bunch lately. It's weird seeing a series like DK being given just above Star Fox level treatment(as in remasters but no original games as opposed to just re releaseson Switch online). Hopefully, there's more in store for DK in the switch 2 years.
It’s pretty simple why we haven’t got a new game yet. The studio that Nintendo trust the most to make a new DK Game has been busy with other stuff. I’m sure that Since Metroid Prime 4 is coming out soon Retro has went back to DK now. Just all it was
I’m just gonna call it right here. Most of the fans are gonna buy Shadow Generations and be disappointed because everything we’ve seen in trailers and demo gameplay is basically the full experience. There will be nothing new and the fans will complain that an expansion to a rereleased 13 year old game is lacking. Mark my words, we’ve seen this happen with Colors & Origins. It’ll be the same issue 100% guaranteed.
The thing I worry about with Superstar’s reception is that SEGA take the wrong message from it and stop making 2D games. The game’s main issue was it’s level design was outright cheap in places, the bosses dragged on way too long, the soundtrack quality was all over the place, and the emerald powers were really gimmicky to the point that I’d rather not see them in future games, the elements shields were much better for the flow of the game. The game was just all over the place and didn’t sell well because it wasn’t a quality Classic Sonic experience all round.
@@MechaSandvichYes yesterday I just thought about Wario. If they don't want to do a new one I asked myself why they didn't remaster Wario Land Shake It/The Shake Dimension. This game still looks so good on the Wii and this artstyle in HD would be beautiful.
DISCLAMER: Please read the entire comment before posting, otherwise you'll miss important info. The answer is... Miyamoto. It's always Miyamoto. Thing is, while he doesn't hate Donkey Kong in general, he seems to have a less-than-completely-positive view of DKC in general, having stated in the past that "people will play games with mediocre gameplay as long as the art was good". Granted, when he said that he was busy working on Yoshi's Island and he later retracted the statement, but the fact of the matter is that he still voiced that opinion to begin with. It's a similar reason to why Nintendo won't bring back F-Zero. Even though, despite F-Zero GX's "mediocre" sales (which were still good relative to the number of Gamecubes sold, keep in mind that the Gamecube only sold 9 million units or so to begin with), F-Zero GX was a fan favorite, Miyamoto thought the game "played too hard and fast". It's a similar reason to why modern Paper Mario games, excluding the TTYD remake, are both super constrained in story writing and extremely experimental in gameplay - Miyamoto thought that old-style Paper Mario was boring and required that they use existing characters rather than making new ones and not focus much on story (though Origami King was given a bit more leeway with the latter). All this being said, I don't want to come off as though I'm painting Miyamoto as this "big bad villain". He's not doing it out of malice, nor is it necessarily incompetence per-say, but rather he just likes what he likes, hates what he hates, has too big of a head to listen to feedback, refuses to follow trends, and sees himself as a toymaker, not a game developer. His priorities are different from those of Nintendo's customer base, and in some ways unsuitable for his current position as creative director of Nintendo, but he's not intentionally doing it to spite people. And his decisions aren't always bad. So the real problem isn't Miyamoto himself, it's the amount of power he has as THE creative director of Nintendo.
@@subeteking oh ok I thought they couldn’t remake or port it because of the old donkey Kong country games for the snes rare came back to work on those for the gameboy port instead of a different studio.
@@subeteking Without Rare, Nintendo feels only Retro Studio's can make DKC, but their busy with Metroid Prime 4. I recommend Yooka-Laylee the Impossible Lair, and Kaze the Wild Masks, their based on DKC.
@subeteking The problem is Jetpac and too much of a Banjo-Kazooie influence. Most of the soundtrack was done by Grant Kirkhope, with some being reworked from Banjo-Kazooie after they were discarded from the final game. Only about 5 or so songs were done by David Wise. A good chunk of enemies were inspired by Banjo-Kazooie a little too much, such as the Gloomy Galleon boss and the ghost books. If Nintendo were to remake it themselves, they would have to reimagine the whole game so that it feels more Nintendo-like and a lot less like a dumping ground of rejected Banjo-Kazooie ideas. No Grant Kirkhope, more David Wise, redesigning most enemies so they look a lot less like Banjo-Kazooie characters, removing the Jetpac minigame or replacing it with something else, and possibly making the game play more like Donkey Kong Country in proper 3D instead of Banjo-Kazooie physics. Oh, and if the Paon designs are to be used, Tiny Kong would require some reworking as every other major character are identical to their Rare designs.
