How do you go about figuring out what kind of land you can dig on? Is this public land off a hiking trail, is it private land you got permission to dig in? If it's public land, did you need to get a permit beforehand?
So It's basically like a granite that has larger minerals. So a granite has stuff like quartz, feldspar, micas and hornblendes but the size of each individual mineral is fairly small approximately less then 1cm. A pegmatite would have the same minerals but would be over 1cm and can get pretty large and measure in the meters scale. The pegmatites usually cooled slow enough that the minerals had time to grow larger but that's not always the case.
@@rockgoblinadventures5520 okay that makes sense. I feel like I can identify granite fairly easily. so just keep looking for rocks with bigger deposits of quartz, mica and feldspar. Thanks! Another random q. Do you think you’d be more likely to find pegmatite in foothills, or in the actual mountains?
@Mason Smyth I can't say if one would be better than the other. Pegmatites usually run as dikes and intrusions, though, if that helps you at all. If you have an area you are curious about it's always good to check out some geology maps and see what rock is there and if anyone has marked out any Intrusives or anything else. Mindat.org is a good resource as well as the USGS.
Hopefully I'll have some new videos out soon. I've been busy graduating college so haven't had alot of time but when the weather gets a bit better I'll be getting out.
@@rockgoblinadventures5520 nice! What state you mining in? I just got some land and has a quarry on it. I have a gut feeling it has a variety of minerals gems etc on it. Has a small mountain, 20 acre pond fed by 5 springs etc. Lots of visible different types of granite and stone.
@@rockgoblinadventures5520 I’m going to hire a geologist to check. It’s 200 acres but on 800 acres. Granite blue granite lighter color rock. So far it has a mountain of blue granite. But is being used as a rock crushing pit last 3 years. The terrain varies sandy pebbles to giant boulders. Then a mountain of granite to that pond. Which is insanely clear. There’s some weird rocks all over the pond. I haven’t been out on it yet. Seems to be full of small boulders and square Granite chunk’s. Really unique place.
New sub after viewing Currently Rockhounding thanks guys iam a beginner w learning the make up of these beauties called rocks but have been collecting since I was little. Thank you for the knowledge n adventure 😊btw music& view is great
Hey thank you and glad to see you here. I apologize about the late reply. I've been crazy busy with college. I hope to get some new videos out soon and I hope you enjoy. Let me know if there's anything you are interested about.
Yeah might have to put off being outside for a bit until the heat dies down. I can't wait to go explore a few new spots we have found soon. Thanks for watching!
Great rockhounding area. Nothing like that in Florida :( Keep hunting.... looking for that 1 great piece for every 100 we pickup. The Thrill of the Hunt
Can You make some videos about recognizing potential location for digging quarty crystals for beginers, on spots where noone digging? how to recognize new locatione vaine etc?
I'll try to do that this summer for you. We have a few locations we will be exploring so I'll try to make them a bit more informational and give details to how we look for potential spots. Thanks for the ideas.
Really good video quality, what are you using? At about 4 mins you are completely under the overburden and you have a tailings pile on your escape side... If that overburden fails, you wont get out of that alive. Try and clear the downhill side of tailings so you arent caught between a slough and a hard place, or at least you have a chance of scooting out. You would be very surprised how much a foot or two of over burden weighs when it comes down on you.
Oh man. I should have kept watching. Bro. Completely underground in a sand tunnel? Sigh. $20 of quartz points is probably not worth one of ya... good vid, even with that questionable mining operation...
lol yeah it was a bit unsafe but we did also have the other side of the hole open as well where my buddy was digging. we are usually aware of the dangers and try to watch ourselves. We wont be going deeper unless we collapse the tunnel in first to get rid of the top load. The camera I am using is a GoPro hero 8. it has great quality but trying to show anything up close is difficult. you basically have to hold anything back like a foot from the camera or it gets blurry.
You guys always look like you are having a great time. Keep up the good work. Miss being out with my rockhounding bud. He is an American and I'm a Canadian. We do these great adventures on both sides of the border of north western washington and south western BC.
Anytime spent out rockhounding is a great time and I'm always in such a great mood lol. That's a good buddy you got their. Maybe I should get a Canadian friend to do that with haha
Hello my friend, your video is incredibly beautiful, keep up the good work !! Amazing crystals ❤️❤️ Good luck and always be careful !! Thank you very much for sharing the video 👍👍
I remember getting some autunite from Washington state in the 1970's Ran a purity test on it, using the fluorescence of uranium hexafluoride. It contaminated our little platinum dishes for a week. Pissed my boss off. Love to find some in the wild.
Hahaha that's too funny. 🤣 I'll have to look into that test. I don't know much about that. How was the stuff you were finding? Was it small or.did you get some decent stuff?
I worked for the government of Saskatchewan, in geochemical research. We found one of the richest uranium mines (Cliff Lake). To try and find the source in muskeg you do survey of the area. I had a piece of pitchblende from there. It was about a pound and was extremely radioactive. I had been keeping it in my bedroom. Donated it to the mining program at a local technical institute
Was my first job after high school. I worked with all these educated dudes. It was my keen interest in rocks that got me the job, was a great experience. Probably kept it in my room 6 months
@@bazaarm.b.c have you been to solo creek at all? It's by priest lake but right over the Washington border. It's a decent crystal spot that's been dug for over 20+ years but it's fun to spend a day out there. I have a video of me digging that spot on my channel.
@@bazaarm.b.c yeah no problem. It's a great spot to take the kids. Just be careful and keep an eye out for holes. There is alot of dig holes everywhere
Nice videoVery nice video !! Continue like this the nice videos that you both upload !! My favorite mineral is quartz !! Good luck my friend and always be careful !!
Beautiful video and amazing samples, many congratulations to both !! A year ago on a hike I did I found a small gallery from an old mine and I did not miss the opportunity to go and see it !! When I managed and entered my joy in what I saw was great and the reason is entirely made of crystals !! I have uploaded to my channel 3 videos plus a micro one that I have turned on the UV flashlight !! I named it the cave of crystals !! Here are the videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xT8cRdKJaK4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rEh-vmyP4P8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HgqYWDBBPZs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4dNF1zeTy-w.html
Incredible findings and a very beautiful video, keep up the good work you do and you will go very high !! Good luck and always be careful !! Yours sincerely Bill !!
Mel's hole eastern Washington NE ridge Yakima land, had masonry bricks lining the edge before the government captured the land owner and dumped him off in downtown Sacramento with all teeth pulled out. Ouch! Theres another in southern Canada above Montana I guess, All sort of timeless relics found around like magnetic and a old revolver that could change the radio dial to past and future airings for predicitons imagine that....
Hahaha those dang white flakes take up so much of our time here in the north. We should definitely go back and get a few more crystals before that happens
