11:17 to be fair…she was going against Vitaly Scherbo for the total medal count….and as a man he had potentially 8 medals each year….Simone only had 5 chances to medal each year.
In my opinion, this is the reality of things, lol. Everyone else see ya in 25-28. Simone - lock Shilese - healthy a lock Suni - Hits beam and bars at trials she is on the team period. Sky - Hits beam and her Cheng both days of trials she is on the team. The 5th spot could go multiple ways depending on how they are building the highest scoring team and if they want the 5th spot to be another AA or specialist. Jade ( specialist ) Jordan ( AA ) Kayla ( AA ) Kaliya( specialist )
Just take the top 5 AA. Suni is the only person that could bring a significant amount to the team score if she isn't in the top 5, though she probably will get top 5. The talk about Kaliya to bring 0.2 on one event is absurd. Same thing with Jade or Josc's inconsistent Cheng's, just no. Heck if Skye gets a high 14 VT both days at OT, she would be the smarter specialist pick if she isn't top 5 AA. IMO Simone, Shi, Skye, Suni and probably Kayla is correct. Sure maybe Leanne, Jade or Jordan could kick off Kayla but that's what OT is for. I think Kayla is the safest of that group and the most well rounded in case of injuries.
Her beam alone is nearly a full point off when international judges are KIND so let's be fr 😂 In 2021, the domestically LOWEST ranked all arounder competed at Olympic all around final as a reserve so the rank order selection is bs.
@@GloriaKabahuma Olympic Trials is a 2-day competition with combined scores. They don't count each day as a separate competition, so why are we? It's like we're reaching to make something true that simply wasn't the case.
I would like to know who was tossing the water bottle and catching it with one hand behind Brody? I thought it was funny when Brody was so serious and this male gymnast behind him was having a good time. 😂
23:00 ~ my husband was in kidney failure for the past 3 years and I donated my kidney to him last year and let me tell you. I didn’t know how much water weight can fluctuate in a person when in a 24 hour period! For my husband he experienced a lot of fatigue and pain in his legs, especially his ankles. He was on a very strict diet until a few months after his transplant. So I can totally understand and relate with what Suni is going through. My husband and I are her biggest fans because of that connection. ❤️
So cool to see the "assist" stat in gymnastics with Simone supporting Suni. Gymnastics is such an individual driven sport, that "assists" are not usually possible, but Simone actively showing up for Suni is a game changer!
Homophobia and racism has persisted in the figure skating community for decades. Its culture operates like many gyms, where only certain skaters are accepted due to many factors: training costs, elitism, judging racism/prejudice, etc. Russia, among other countries, has been at the forefront of perpetuating heteronormative models for the sport which has given figure skaters a platform like Yagudin to blast hate in the community. Let us not forget Ashley Wagner who took a stand against homophobia in Russia prior to Sochi 2014. And on top of this, figure skating has a major issue with doping, mostly coming from Russia.
The vibe is/was not off. It is different because it's a different person. I love this guy's perspective. He contributed to the collective! I walked away with more than I felt before I listened.
@@twilobaby6118 nah. I'm not saying it was bad, but his need to control the situation and misunderstanding of the role of guest host made it awkward. I'm not saying this is the worst thing ever, but I prefer some of the past guest hosts better.
Simone was described in a post as an athletic savant. That is the closest thing that comes to describing what she has accomplished and what she will do. She should be celebrated because she has exceeded more as an individual than what the entire U.S. Women have done collectively. She was built for this. She has a wonderful family and coaching support. Simone is not just serving good support to others, she's also taking that advice. After she sat down on her YDP, she ripped off a near perfect Cheng...stuck landing. People who burrow out of whatever bowel core they exist, do not come to support this sport or the athletes; they simply do it to hate. Everyone knows how great Simone is. She 99.9% has to be absent in the show for you to win AA Gold. That is some statistics that even Suni's father understood which is why he felt the need to show his appreciation. If Simone had injured herself, during a lockdown Olympics, without family support to guide these athletes out of that storm, I don't know if they could have regrouped. They look so much to her and up to her, that even her Twisties rattled them. Yes, there will always be negative people, but in the words of Suni herself: they only support me when it benefits them. She's very self aware and she knows that you have to be dead inside to put down Simone in order to lift her up. That is why they will never get her gratitude for their backhanded insults on a team member she respects and looks up to. She knows first hand how the mind wills the body. People who do not understand that you can work through physical pain (not mental) are either ignorant, unintelligible, or spiritually dead. WCC is on the map. If you don't know, pay close attention so you don't miss anything else. Hezly's dad reminded me of the Raisman's.
At around 11min mark, I feel the statement that Suni "won" against Simone deserves an asterisk. She won one day of Olympic trials, but as a competition as a whole, Simone still won trials.
I would say that the 4 S's are on the team as of now, and I would say that the 5th spot is between Kayla and Jordan because they both help out where Suni lacks on vault and floor, but Kayla was a little more consistent at nationals than Jordan while Jordan outscored Kayla on both vault and floor on Day 2!
USAG needs to do better with displaying scores in the lives as well, at least in the arena you had the scores… in the live we sometimes had a plan on floor that showed someone’s score up on the ribbon?! 😂 At least we get the broadcast the next day, I know not everyone likes the broadcast, but everyone likes scores. 😅
Can somebody please tell me what competition Jessica is speaking about that Suni won over Simone? Suni won 1 day at the Olympic trials and Simone did not compete the all-around at the Olympics.
28:15 Ari are you fucking serious?! Kayla and current Suni catching up to shilese?!! Gtfo…no they cannot. They haven’t done so currently even on USA grounds and they certainly won’t internationally. MAYBE if Suni gets to where she was in Tokyo…but certainly not now…like be ffr.. dont disrespect Shilese like that.
@@flowerpower32She’s not touching Shilese who’s been the #2 AAer for the past year the Suni hype needs to stop .. she’s not even beating Skye Blakely without a fall
@@HazelAmarie shilese has been through ALOT to get to where she is now. She went through car accident, her dad’s death etc…she has medaled individually at worlds both times she was there, she continues to be 2nd to Simone in the USA…like…Shilese doesn’t deserve that type of disrespect from Ginger Snap here talkin all types of crazy… And here Suni can “do no wrong”…like cmon. Suni had her own cross to bare with her kidneys but everyone saying she can beat shilese…LIKE NO. Stop giving u deserved credit to people. Why do people “forget” where Shilese has started and built from there?
@@akiteriyaki1369 idk why you are mentioning Shilese's personal life problems in comparison to Suni when Suni also had career ending injuries, her father's accident (which happened while she was competing in her first senior us championships) and now kidney problems. Not that it is a competition, but both athletes showed persistance and resilience. Shilese is in a better form than Suni rn, we can all agree, but you are disregarding the fact that Suni has had health problems in the past 2 years that Shilese has not. You cannot compare someone who has trained at full capacity to someone who hasn't. Let's just hope Shilese's shoulder won't affect her at trials so we will be able to watch her beautiful gymnastics and stop making pointless comparisons
@@alexandramargarit8762 I don’t think they disregarded that at all. They clearly mentioned a fact…Shilese is dominant compared to Kayla and current Suni. Also that Shilese went through so much to get to the top of the game. There was NO disregarding Suni’s experience with kidney issues at all. What did you read? Simply mentioning that someone went through tough times and is now at the top and someone saying “oh these 2 athletes can catch her” when they can’t is very much so disrespectful to Shilese. The comment wasn’t really to Suni at all…it was to the Ari person in the video.
Ok so if Simone needs post-Olympic career, given how she supported Suni (and probably every other gymnast) she should take over World Champions since Cecile and Laurent are headed to Georgia.
Thank you so much for your coverage. And thank you most for giving simone biles the attention she deserves. I've been thinking a lot about the gymnastics community taking her for granted.
@@kitkatabolic2344 With her level of dominance in gymnastics it should be talked about even more. If someone was as dominant as Simone is in their sport they would be hyped and talked about even more. Look at Caitlin Clarke and she was no way as dominant as Simone. Yet some gymnastics fans complain about her being covered so much when she should in fact be covered more.
@@kitkatabolic2344 To clarify, yes, she is all over main stream media, she is a celebrity. I am talking about in the "gymnerd" world (and no, I am not picking on gymcastic whose coverage I have always appreciated), it seems to me that Simone is to some extent taken for granted. Some comments suggest, "ho hum, her again", or "we need fresh blood". Sometimes, I think rightly so, we don't want to take away from all of the other talented amazing gymnasts. In giving equal time to other athletes, yes, I think we take Simone's amazing contributions for granted. "Simone doing Simone things", for example, I am sure is intended as a compliment, but lowkey puts her down. I appreciate Jessica taking a minute to discuss just how unique Smone's MANY accomplishments are. This is just my opinion.
@@carolynrabbani6469 the comments are there, we know they are there...there is the belief that her skillset is a fluke, like those career threes of Steph Curry. This is not duplicable. The sport will have a hole in it when Simone retires. Even Russia knew without Simone the US team couldn't get gold. Yet people are framed to say she let her team down. Her team can only do as good as silver without her. She's good to some for the win, but not the climb.
like be near the bars to watch them. not where sometimes the coaches stand to spot the gymnast while they do the routine but on the lower part. like where you see the gymnast step off to when they’re done doing their routine
@@TommyWiseauu moral and emotional support knowing a friend you trust is nearby and dedicatedly being there for you. Especially in a world like gymnastics which used to foster soooo much inner competition between the girls that Makayla Maroney said her coaches wouldn't let her smile with or talk to the other gymnasts because it might get in her head.
@@TommyWiseauu Suni is fighting for her confidence after battling illness and trying to regain her skills, stamina, and trusting herself. US Champs was her petition to perform AA. It was a high pressure moment because this is (as she stated) her first AA in elite since Tokyo and the pressure was on her more than any other gymnast in that room. Competition and Training are different environments, thus the reason we haven't seen Suni's full bar. She explained all of what she was feeling/as well as Simone through her conversation with Suni.
I was so happy for many of them! Suni did amazing and i LOVE the story of her and Simone talking together after vault and Simone stabding by bars to support Suni 😢 and then Suni AMAZING beam work! Skye was awesome! Jordan was FANTASTIC and I'm not bothered by her beam mistake or floor mistake, because she has been so solid and has great scores we can use anywhere really, but the 14.1 floor we super need and she also has strong bars too! Leeanne might be out of considered now, which makes me sad. She might be an alternate tho. I think Jade is done imo. Kayla....i don't want to come across as a hater, cause i think she did really well, but i also feel many of her scores were actually too high. I had to go back and re-watch to change my mind. So personally i don't have her on "my team" right now.
@@taylorburtis Again, this is where I think you cannot duplicate a vet performance, you have to supersede them. They'll go with the more experienced in a high pressure situation.
@@KaiOpaka Hard to tell. Two individual athletes outscored two all rounders picked by the stupid rank order (the inconsistent and inflated domestic scores did not hold up) in Tokyo 🥴

28:10 And only Shilese can hold the domestic score up when she competes outside. She's the 2nd best behind Simone with a comfortable margin, if judges don't give fictional scores that will drop by AT LEAST 0.5 on one apparatus, not to mention other apparatus.
@@akiteriyaki1369 Shilese doesn't deserve that treatment just because she takes out one of American's best L-hop 1/1 (not uncreditable) and she wants to rest her body to peak at the right time. Others did crooked L-hop 1/1, Gogean, split full, switch ring, but judges wrongly gave credit and did not deduct accordingly. Some scores are definitely inflated by **at least 0.5** applying Euros standard. No wonder STS system records so many dance elements from American gymnasts... 😂
My 2024 Olympic Team Prediction: Feelings Team: Simone (AA), Shi (AA), Suni(UB/BB), Jade (VT/FL) and Jordan(AA). Alternates: Skye, Kayla, Leanne/Kaliya/Hezly. Realistic Team: Simone (AA), Shi (AA), Skye(VT/FL), Suni(UB/BB) and Jordan(AA)/Kayla(AA)/Jade(VT/FL) for the 5th spot. Skyes international inconsistency concerns me greatly. I need her to hit both days of trials and stay consistent in Paris if she makes the team, but her cheng by no means makes her a lock if the scoring/consistency doesn't hold up on the world stage. To make this team Jade needs an upgraded floor/vault which will consistently score higher than Jo and Kayla internationally on those events and have the added benefit of potentially medaling on vault and floor individually. To make this team Jordan/Kayla need to hit 8 for 8 with their max D and an improved E score. whichever two gymnasts aren't selected for the 5th spot will be traveling alternates/replacement athletes and either Leanne/Kaliya/Hezly will be named non-traveling alternate. If the 4 core athletes above are chosen at trials, the only real spot that needs backup filling is floor/Vault, and with upgrades, I can't see leaving the reigning Olympic floor champion at home. Olympic Trials will tell all but for me, it's between Jordan and Jade (with upgrades) for that 5th spot. if they want an athlete who can fill in anywhere and go up instead of Skye on FL then Jordan. If they want an athlete who can win a second medal on FL/VT in individual EF and also go up instead of Skye on FL and in addition to Skye on VT then Jade. Realistically, there isn't enough separation between Jordan and Kayla score-wise to justify one over the other, so Jordan is simply my personal preference. Both Jordan and Kayla can step in on any event if needed. Hot Take: Although neither Jordan nor Kayla will contend for any individual EF medals I honestly trust them to hit internationally in Quals/TF much more than Skye whose largest advantage at present is her upgraded Cheng vault and being the 3rd best AA behind Simone and Shi. I'm MORE nervous to bring Skye for anything other than vault in TF because her track record for hitting international isn't great. if Simone and Shi do AA in Prelims and Skye is used for VT (so she can contend for a Vault medal), I'm much more comfortable knowing they could put Jordan/Kayla in anywhere else or Jade on Vault and more importantly Floor in TF. Quals_ 4 up/3 count VT: Carey/Chiles, Jones, Blakely, Biles (Lee) UB: Chiles, Lee, Biles, Jones (Blakely) BB: Jones, Blakely, Biles, Lee (Chiles) FL: Carey/Chiles, Jones, Biles, Blakely (Lee) TF_ 3 up/3 count VT: Carey/Chiles, Blakely, Biles UB: Lee, Biles, Jones BB: Blakely/Jones, Biles, Lee FL: Jones, Carey/Chiles, Biles AA: Biles, Jones (Lee/Blakely) EF_ VT: Biles, Blakely/Carey UB: Biles/Lee, Jones BB: Biles, Lee FL: Biles, Jones/Carey Thoughts?
I love not only her gymnastics, but how good of a teammate she is, such a strong leader. So stoked for the person she has become! And not related to Simone at all, I just hate that it's so difficult to hear the reporters questions. I can usually figure out the gist of it based on her response, but it's still frustrating.
