Wonderful song. This version unfortunately pales in comparison to the Jools Holland show version which had the burning violin searing through it. The great man is sorely missed, thank you Leonard for all that you gave, you are simply irreplaceable.
Todos mis respetos para todos estos maestros y maestra de música cubana pero la chica que sale Rapeando! no creo que estos temas clásicos de la música cubana deban mexclarse con la cultura yanqu.
I have the good fortune to be living only 100 metres from where this took place. He played three nights in Kilmainham, starting Friday night and finishing Sunday. The first night when they were doing the sound checks I thought one of my neighbours was playing very loud music! I could listen to the concerts from my balcony. What a weekend! I did go to see him on the Sunday night and really glad I did even if the tickets were on the expensive side. It’s one of those nights that will live long in the memory.
When her father was dying.(I think it was throat cancer?)He, Richard Jones told her, "I can't have been a failure, if I had you as a daughter". By the way I recommend highly her book "Last Chance Texaco, memoirs of an American troubadour". It is amazing, and I rarely use that word,(especially since it's such an over used word), but in this instance it fits. There were parts that I laughed out, and parts that I caught myself crying. She also very accurately describes a very special time of the country too. Since we are close in age, for me it was more of a reminding how society was. It also available on Audiobook, she read the book herself, and included is some new recordings. I read the book but haven't listened to the audiobook. That's my Christmas present from my son.
Algo que no había notado es la buena microfoneada que le hicieron al contrabajo... por algún motivo los bajos son los mas castigados, incluso al buen Cachao le pasaba, no critico la ejecución (muy buena por cierto) sino el sistema de amplificación.
