Surely, the biggest musical contribution of the XXth century. Looking to the past, everything is integrated and looking to the future of music and aesthetics. absolument genial.
Certain sounds can trigger the release of cortisol, a hormone associated with stress. This can lead to increased heart rate, blood pressure and anxiety. Physiological responses could be any; for example: loss of balance (when vestibular system is stimulated), itching skin or uncontrollable cuff (when the nervous impulse reaches the brain stem, from where a motor response occurs in the muscles), just to mention the harmless ones. Among an audience of over 100 people, mathematical chances are that at least 1 is going to be quite and badly affected (without even knowing it) by this type of low frequency and then odd pitch changing sounds.
It just does not work and nothing to really catch our memory afterwards. (Ironically, the most interesting (very short) passages are without the electric guitar.)
Minimalism is marmite. Yet, observing this performance, I marvel at the skill and CONCENTRATION required - while a listener can just sit back and 'enjoy' the passing moods.
I just finished Moon's autobiography and this makes me very happy. Frank was a tortured soul (in regards to having his music played properly) but his creations are greater than the sum of the creator, as it would be. RIP Frank.
what the hell is this? this sounds awful! what a crappy piece of music, I honestly feel bad for the people who had to play this, and listen to this. if you are reading this and you think this is "music" please, listen to the 4th movement of the 9th symphony; that is music, true music.
Tubercular coughing is actually written in the score of this masterpiece: Ligeti was a genius not only of music for the dead, but for those attending their own requiem mass at the concert, itself!
Whoever thinks this is great, fantastic, wonderful is simply sick in the head. See a doctor quickly and get treatment. I hope you find a cure! I'm seriously wondering what's great about it? Is it music, or what the hell is it supposed to be or represent? I love classical music, jazz, pop, metal, all kinds of music. But this is nothing!
Mozart and Beethoven lived and worked in the same city - Vienna. Everyone can distinguish their compositions. Boulez and Stockhausen lived in different countries. Why cant we find any differences? Their compositions sound like they were written by the same person. Biorobots? 😅
This is Music, gentlemen. In its founding aspects: sound, silence and noise. A counterpoint of these paradigms at the highest expressive levels. Absolutely brilliant.
I like the way Boulez uses coherent little motifs, very unlike the extreme density, even opacity of his contemporaries. His charming little Derridan deconstructions/drop-outs serving as cadences at the ends of several sections are particularly endearing. Tres reveur!
