I love it. The homes were neat and clean, small by todays standards. People dodnt put on airs, just were who they were. Nobody tried to be perfect. They had fun.
Thank you so much.❤ I will be coming back to look at this film from time to time. It's gives me a great look back at my childhood. This is a true blessing.
Thank you for the video. I have been trying to find Christmas decorations in Downtown St. Louis in 1960s and 1970s. I especially was looking for pictures of the revolving tree. If you have anymore please share them.
Hi, thanks for commenting. Unfortunately, I don't have any additional photos of this display. I do however have a much better transfer of this film here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-duRh4PiITco.html You may be able to get better screen grabs from that.
I remember times like this. It was so blissful. I dont have those now 2024 wont be much different than 2023. But back in the 80s it was the last of the good times with all my family. Too bad really .
@tombeiter thanks for sharing this video. Nice work. It’s exactly like the Christmas parties of my childhood. The Hamm’s, PBR, Schlitz, people smoking, dancing. What threw me was the young dude playing accordion. Awesome! It’s like I was there. I’m sure it must be super bittersweet for you to watch this video. 😊 Merry Christmas!
The young dude is my brother. My dad played the accordion (German roots family), so my brother learned when he was young. He was very musical Played several instruments.
Awesome memories! Unfortunately, I left home in 73 joins the Corps and went to a little country called Vietnam..😳 but still had great memories in the early 70s. !👍🏽👏🏽💕
🎶From the land of sky-blue wa-a-ters...🎶 As far as I know Hamm's was not distributed here in Oklahoma, but as kids we spent our summers in NW Iowa and it was everywhere, including the commercials. I guess St. Louis is more midwestern than southern. My kin in SL were Irish, but many married into German families...and they both like their beer!
Love watching these kinds of videos, brings back a lot of great memories. Thanks for sharing. Wish someone in our family had had a video camera back then.
@@TomBeiter Hi Tom! I remember doing that dance and the steps are very similar to the Bus Stop we ( the people I knew) used to do (in New York in the 70s). The Hustle i recall, you faced each other and held hands. I'm sure there was a lot of variations of both dances.
OH my gosh, your uncle in the white turtle neck dancing by the aluminum Christmas tree was handsome x 10. Wonderful video. Brought back a lot of nice holiday memories. I was born in 58 so probably in my early to mid teens when this was filmed. TY for sharing with us Tom. Sure enjoyed the trip back in time.
Yep, we're German. My dad studied since he was a young child. That's my brother playing in the movie. He secretly studied and practiced when my parents would go out as my dad normally wouldn't let us kids touch his accordion
Released in 1976. I'm actually surprised I got it the first year it was released. I usually had to wait until the price went down the following year on things like that.
Yes, we'd moved on to a green artificial tree by this point, but I always liked the silver tree, so we would put it up in the basement. I still have that tree and put it up every year.
Seeing this reminded me of all the special Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with my Grandparents, Great Aunts and Uncles, and cousins. My grandparent's house full of wonderful aromas, presents up to the moon, and snowcover all around South Bend, Indiana. Now all my grandparents, parents, many cousins aunts and uncles are dead. I miss them happy days in my childhood. I'd give my right arm to look through a window and see all them happy holiday celebrations again.
Big sideburns, beer, cigarettes, gorgeous girls, and those ugly satin ornaments! Yep, it looks like the '70s to me! That squeeze box and dancing makes me think this family are of European origin with strong ties to their lineage. They look like a lot of fun!
@@TomBeiter Yeah, I removed it. Thought maybe you didn't wanna say if you were. I was wrong! Anyway, that's cool. Am unsure if my mom or dad filmed Christmas. If they did, it must have been when my sister and I were toddlers.
@@miketype1each That clip of me and my mom was actually used on a History Channel special a few years ago called "Christmas in the 70's". This was the only Christmas my parents filmed, but I'm glad they did.
Same thing happened to me... Watery eyes with a smile on my face I wasn't even alive back then (wasn't born til '90) and watching older holiday videos makes my heart chime ((I know it's still 8 months away and I'm probably at least a little insane but... Merry Christmas! 😅)) 🎄🎅⛄
Okay, the dude with the turtle neck was hot…danced pretty good too. I was little in the 70’s, I had 5 brothers and 3 sisters, 9 kids total, dad worked 2 jobs and we were lower middle class. All home cooked meals, 5 channels total on the TV to watch. Those holidays together with cousins, were some of the best memories. Now I have 50 some nieces and nephews, my parents passed away. I have 2 girls and I wished they could of experienced childhood like mine. The freedom, the safety and just being a stupid kid riding your bike everywhere. Thanks for the video, it brought back a lot of good memories.
