Take some amazing walks with me and see the very best of Devon and Cornwall. All videos filmed using iPhone 12 Pro at 60fps, Dolby Vision HDR 10, downscaled to 30fps for RU-vid with iMovie from Apple.
Quite a bit has happened in the 50 years I've been away. I was born in Paignton Hospital, and lived the first 20 years of my life in town, so a lot of this is familiar. Roundham - my friend's parents ran a hotel there; the walk was great - especially down the cliff path to the beach, and there was the remains of a submarine (or so I was told) showing at the foot of the cliff. Love that Devon Red sandstone! That water-park is built on a small mound - at the age of two I thought it a mountain, and ran wildly down it. That fenced-off area at 26:41 was a sailboat pond... can't tell now what it is. There is - or maybe was - grave in the green park... I always thought it ghoulish, until I learned that during the Napoleonic War, troops were camped there, and the grave is of an officer. Thanks so much for the video - it evoked many memories, as you can see.
This brings back memories, when I was a kid, we used to go to Paignton, my parents were friends with a Mr Bewley he owned a tour boat (boy david) , remember going to Brixham and down the river dart with him .they were great times. 👍
What an absolutely wonderful video. I’ve made this same walk many times in both directions, since the age of six and your video brings back so many wonderful days. Thanks for your hard work. It was epic. (How were you able to keep your camera so steady ?)
At around 6:10 to 6:20 does anybody recognise the cream looking 2 or 3 storey building to the right of screen? I’m almost certain this was a hotel my mum and dad would take me in the early 70’s and the green area beside it was a 9 hole pitch and putt course. If it is the one, I’ve been searching for it for many years but couldn’t locate it. Hope some kind soul can identify it for me 🙏🤞In any case I subscribed and liked 👍😃
Your videos are out of this world. I will be binge watching them now. Defo gonna do this walk. Thank you soooooo much for making these scenic beautiful vids. please don't stop making them 🥰🙏🌠
Hi David at 6:10 to 6:20 do u recognise the cream looking 2 or 3 storey building just right of screen - looks like a hotel my mum and dad took me to in early 70’s - the green common areas used to be a 9 hole pitch and putt golf course as I remember
my word that brought back some memories. I lived in Paignton as a lad, I and a couple friends did a lot of fishing from the rocks below Roundham Head and on the prom below the cliff walk down to Gooderington . Had another school mate who lived in Gooderington as well , so spent a lot of time there on the beach in summer. There have been a few changes over the almost 50 years since I lived there, but not as many as I thought there might have been .
Hi what a beautiful and relaxing video of Torquay, is easy to see why so many famous novelist, poets, writers etc. Found so much inspiration here. 🥰. Lovely. Davina S.
I hope that running dog got reunited with his/ her human companion !!😧 It's irresponsible for anyone to leave his dog way behind !! That dog could had fallen into the ocean !😠 Or kidnapped, even ! 😡 It's a very nice place to walk around !! Very melancholic.💘 I am looking for a very nice area in Devon where is easy for people with mobility issues .My mom has. I might have to push her wheelchair. A very nice video ,thanks ! 💜🥁🐉🎤💞
Excellent picture quality on this walk around the gardens at Oldway Mansion. Another very good video from Let's Walk. The "crunchy" sound of the gravel as you walked, added a realistic sound effect to the quieter bits. Good subject for a video tour. Well done.
Thanks for showing this walk. Seeing the iffy steps at 8.00 onwards and then the poor quality of the path further on made us decide to do our walking elsewhere. Seems the coast path through Torbay is very neglected as we stopped walking other sections because of the poor state.
Brings back memories for me when I was a boy living in Goodrington, many many years ago. I'm glad you did it on a quiet day, because that's how it was, out of season. That must have been a spring tide, the sea wasn't that high very often. I enjoyed the route you took from Paignton harbour, up through Roundham Gardens and down into Goodrington. It's hardly changed at all. Good video.
I grew up near Oldway Mansion, Paignton, in the 70s. I had to leave in 1978, to my great regret. I've got some fantastic memories, however, including spring tides such as this one. When it was this high, me and my mates used to dive off the railings by Marine Drive, on Preston sands. The water was dangerously shallow, but we were completely fearless. We would draw a crowd! I've become slightly addicted to watching videos like these. I think there's a pretty good chance I'll move back and see out my final years doing walks like this every day. You'll easily recognise me: I'll be the crazy old man, standing on the railings, about to leap into the sea!🏊♂️
At 6:10 to 6:20 can anyone identify the cream looking 2 or 3 storey building just right of screen? It looks very much like a hotel my mum and dad took me to in early 70’s. I think the green common area was originally a 9 hole pitch and putt golf course - it looks very familiar - I tried to find it on my last trip to Paignton
@@ZaphodBeeb1 thanks 🙏 but u remember it as a hotel in the 70’s. I’m sure it was the hotel my mum and dad would take me to in summer. I think it was called the ocean view hotel 🤷♂️🤞
Whilst this has been filmed on a beautiful day it has nonetheless been filmed during COVID and doesn’t sell this beautiful resort at all. Should be re-filmed now to show a sense of normality and the buzz this place has in the summer. Also use iMovie app to précis the vid, a great editing tool which is so easy to use.
Another familiar route... Like it was yesterday, though there wasn't the bike lanes and car parking spaces there over 10 years ago, I remember it being all pedestrianised !! Do the motor bikes still meet up along the promenade seafront on Wednesday nights?? It was always jam packed with them!! There used to be a small gift shop on the right hand side under the arch you walked through and on the other an ice cream stall if I remember correctly.
Been on holiday to Paignton at least 3 or 4 times over 10 years ago.... Done exactly same walk, can remember it like it was yesterday!!! Stayed at Cranmore Lodge twice, and another which shall remain unnamed because it was erm... Grubby and not even worth a 1 star rating!!! But Cranmore Lodge got a full 5 ⭐. Brings back many happy holiday memories, though its a 6 hour drive from my home town.
@@gedofgont1006 I think the other place has shut down now, it was over 10 or more years ago.. Can't find it on any site now. Bit yeah I would if it was still open.
Miss Torquay very much. Lived there many years and worked on the Pitch and Putt in Abbey Park. Where have all the flower beds gone and no one to be seen ☹️
Hi Antony can u identify the cream looking 2 or 3 storey building seen at 6:10 to 6:20 at right of screen. I’m sure it was once a hotel my mum and dad took me in the 70’s?? Been trying to find it on my previous trips back to Paignton. I think the green common areas where once a 9 hole pitch and putt golf course owned by the hotel - if indeed it’s the same place - looks extremely familiar!! I do hope u can recognise it for me 🙏🤞
@@antonysmith9173 thanks response Antony - I don’t suppose you know it’s current name or what it was called back in the 70’s - I vaguely remember it being called the Ocean Hotel but I may be wrong 🤷♂️
No l,m sorry don't know what it is called now. It must be nearly 20yrs ago since l last in Paignton. Would really love to go back one day, miss the place.
