The Mercury Prize promotes the best of UK and Irish music and the artists who produce it. This is done through the celebration of the 12 ‘Albums of the Year’, recognising artistic achievement across a range of contemporary music genres.
It is the music equivalent to the Booker Prize for literature and the Turner Prize for art.
The main objectives of the Prize are to recognise and celebrate artistic achievement, provide a snapshot of the year in music and to help introduce new albums from a range of music genres to a wider audience.
It's obvious that they like using ambient textures that they find in the recording. This band is like Irish folk with a dark upgrade, they're revolutionary musically and I don't mean that in a hyperbolic way.
The performance of You ain't the Problem featured briefly in this clip was I believe from a Jools Holland programme where Michael also performed Hero. Two great performances which have since disappeared from RU-vid. Anyone know where to find them?
Congratulations! Haven’t heard the whole album yet but what I did hear was very strong. Nice to see a jazz album winning - it has tended to be pop or rap in recent years.
Hazel is so precious. I love her music, her voice, her words. The band deserves so much more accolades, they are so much more talented than 90 percent of the music on popular radio
It's fun to see how Tyler is so earnest and kind of "cut through the crap" in her answers, while Lewis is more willing to be more superficial and joke, and do the small talk type things. Both skills are necessary to survive interviews, and the two compliment each other nicely!
