Hey, I’m Molly! Once I discovered Daily 5, my whole literacy block changed. Come with me as I breakdown the building blocks of daily five and how you can easily incorporate it into your classroom!
I’ve been doing Daily 5 for 5-6 years and most years my class struggles with staying on task for read to someone. One year I took that away. Is this common or am I doing something wrong?
Hi Molly, I just wanted to ask what a mini lesson would look like when you’re doing this after teaching the whole class lesson. Is this mini lesson still to the whole class or is it being done in small groups? Thanks xx

Do they only read the one book or do you allow them to read more than one book during the 15 minutes? Who do they retell the story to themselves or a friend or the teacher.
They can use any books in their book tub and are encouraged to do so. They retell to themselves if it's read to self or to their partner if it's read to someone.
How are you doing Molly. When you say to practice one rotation until they master it before moving on. How do you do that. Is it whole group on the rotation?
Why don't you have students read to a partner? When starting do I just introduce Read to Self until they build the stamina and nothing else? Do I introduce two stations and choice boards?
Hi! I usually recommend Sora, Storyline Online, & Epic. Definitely check with your media specialist because they can usually recommend safe options for Listen to Reading for your school. 😍
Hello, I am a first grade teacher, and I used Daily 5 last year. While I loved the structure, I also felt as though calling students to the carpet in between each round took up valuable instruction time. Since the point of Daily 5 is giving students choice in the order of their activities, how do you maintain that element while pre-assigning their choices on the Smart Board?
This was a very well-made video and I enjoy hearing about what you like about Math Daily 3 but I’ve watched several of your videos and still don’t understand what the different stations are-what are the other groups/stations doing when you’re teaching one small group? I’m sorry if I just wasn’t able to track down the video where you explain all that
Hey Sarah! Here’s the year long plan but you can also grab 1 month at a time: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Year-Long-Daily-Writing-Prompts-Creative-Writing-Prompts-Kindergarten-10962270

Hi Molly thanks for your videos! Question: when you put your D5 choices on the smart board, are you assigning students to a choice for each round of the D5? Do they do all the choices each day? Thanks, Katie 😊
Hey Katie! Each round so stations are 15-20 minutes or so. My class typically has 4 stations per day. We usually get through them all. Sometimes its 3 stations but mostly 4!
@@literacyfundamentals Thanks, Molly! I really like your smart board set up bc rather than putting groups up there, I would think having individual students names allows you to switch out students as needed. I’ve seen your other videos as to what you have for students at each station, but wondered if you differentiate the activities at each station? Is this something covered in your k-2 training video? Thanks again!
