The Anglo Catholic congregation of St Peter Parmentergate in Kings Street, Norwich, used an arrangement of the Kyrie sung in this work as part of the Parish Mass many years ago. Sadly the church was closed due to "imminent" collapse in 1980. It has not fallen down since closure. More likely an excuse to break up this legendary congregation by the usually protestant bishop of Norwich. But this beautiful musical lives on.
This takes me back to my childhood late 1940s/50s, a quintessential English family, a time when for a child everything was perfect in our own little world. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins all close by. Playing in the fields and streets, Sunday shops closed, time for family visits, always roast beef, Yorkshire pudding for dinner eating it to Two Way Family Favourites. Elizabethan Serenade so often played on the wireless just sums up our British culture.
A beatuful melodic piece. Although not the most prolific Ronald Binge must surely rate as one of the most underrated light classical composers along with Alum Katchaturian. 👍
I remember hearing this song in the '70s and just enjoying the whole concept of a bit of the 16'th century brought back to life in easy listening. As a classical music buff, it resonates with me the way Purcell and Praetorius do, yet smoothed out. Great piece.
I think I was about 12 years old, attended ˋThe Klaver Academiˋ in Oslo. My first piece to be played by me in a concert was In A Monestary Garden. This is one of my favorit pieces of music, even to day, as all Ketelby´s music.
I remember a tv Ad that used this song, I was about 8 im a time when there was only one TV at home and I was the remote control; the whole family sat around it to watch what was on. I am 62 now and every time I listen to this beautiful song I go back to those happy childhood days, remember my dad and mom, my deceased older brother, those were happy days.
What was the tv ad? I, too, have strong memories of this tune as a child - I am nearly 64, so similar in age to you. I cannot quite work out why this tune takes me back to my childhood
@@markleahy9556 Well it does not know boundaries, I live in Panama City,Panama and the ad was for a cigarette brand known as Mentolados, it is forbidden here to show the cigarette so it showed a beautiful girl on a boat getting her hand wet in an also beautiful river. So many memories. I share your experience. Nice to see I am not the only one time traveling with this song.
I’ve been battling depression for over 40 years hardly anything works until I heard this. I’ll never find peace in my life but this gives me a little light in my life.😢
Jesus said. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Take courage my friend. "All will be well and all matter of thing will be well" - Dame Julian of Norwich. You are not alone, I think a whole army may be behind you. Here's the first marker in the ground...
This is the 1st piece of my childhood memory. I loved it then~ played on an old Victrolla with the large horn. Hearing it takes me back to the days of discovering love of that piece and Peace.
1972, I'd inherited my grandma's gramophone and her collection of Richard Baker's "Those You Have Loved" Vinyl LPs. It has taken me since then to remember the name " Elizabethan Serenade" - thank you. 2024
