You are well OUT of order! Quote “not to be smug or anything” then commenting and contrasting how different teachers react to YOUR “critical evidence” is not appropriate! Teachers ARE human. Teachers CARE about their students. If you have someone at the back watching you intently and then circulating taking photos that is really unnerving! Most of my best teaching has happened when I’m not being watched and judged! I despise observations and believe they can be VERY damaging to (to be specific), the teacher. The teacher who is stood at the front doing their very best working for 30K a year under the national average UK salary with 1001 plates to spin! You said about doing a stater on a mini white board…. Schools have moved towards more structured and consistent approaches like, having a slide on the board in order to A- settle the class and B- fulfil the legal requirement of taking the register! Your observation approaches do not mean that your approach is the right one! In terms of metrics, what impact does your “critical evidence” teacher feedback, have on the students, in terms of outcomes and progress? By using social media YOU are putting ideas into the heads of SLT who are largely, so far removed from being a classroom teacher that, they will listen and embed your practice in to CPD and observations at the detriment of teachers health and career journeys. We have a teaching crisis particularly in certain subjects! You need to stop ✋ exploiting both your position and social media for money and sharpen up your ability to be compassionate and respectful towards teachers who have tacked up thousands of university debts, undertaken postgraduate degrees and are highly experienced! Talk to us like grown ups. Stop acting like a branch of police with your “critical evidence” that you basically use in an aggressive way to formulate discussion or more an undermining “telling” and have a mutual adult professional discussion led by, advice and strategies that are both beneficial for the teacher and student! I AM APPALLED!

I have put off watching this podcast for 2 years. I don't know why but now I feel so stupid. I'm reading Craig's book and came here looking for the Bjork episode. I like whiteboards but can better my practice. This episode has helped lots and will be using them way more now. Especially as a tool of practice not just assessment!

Hi Sir I am appointed as a cover supervisor in Uk ,however, i have 5 years teaching experience from my home country , as have performed my duty last week for the very first time in a school, my experience was so bad as I tried my best during classes .During the lecture some students of grade 10th were so reluctant and used very abusive language and actions as well .In this case, I had warned so many times to them to stop such things which annoyed me however I had maintained patience but the whole lecture 3 4 students messed the class.As in my country students are taught to give equal respect to all teachers and i have been never experienced throughout my teaching profession. I was really so excited that I got a chance teaching in schools of Uk ,But all my hopes were dashed to ground after having first experience.What should i need to do in this case?Your advice could save my future

Sadly, religious schools have hugely negative elements to their ethos & wider curriculum, with multiple reasons "justified" for denouncing non-catholic-conforming individuals. The fear of hell that can be pushed is such that learners can fear staff members forming a negative opinion of them, in case that reinforced that they were a bad person, destined for hell and unworthy of care. Silent learners may not speak up for themselves throughout their lives - being trained into silence may not serve them well in life. I prefer learners who are willing to engage in conversation. Delighted to have discovered these videos & books. They're very helpful! Will be watching & reading more! Thank you!

Greeting Craig, this is a goldmine. I have been an Instructional Coach for over 6 years after spending about 4 years in as a teacher. I wished I had resources like this in my earlier years in coaching. Unfortunately, I was transitioned into coaching because I was a great teacher but influencing teacher development is much harder than just sharing strategies. I bought the book teach like a champion about 2 months ago and it has done wonders for my demonstration lesson as it has given me language to articulate some of the work I was doing as a teacher. It seems like you have been referring to some of the techniques. Thanks a lot from Jamaica 🇯🇲.

I thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth. Here is my question. What research evidence do either of you have that one method or the other is more effective? I think if we are going to make recommendations to or coach teachers our suggestions must be based on solid research evidence as opposed to "This I think works better".

Quite insightful. I would normally show answers to each question anyway (in maths). If they are one-step math questions, then I would have all the answers to say 5 questions at the bottom of the PPT in no particular order - "if your answer is not at the bottom, you have to go over your work to find out why. If you don't see why, ask a friend. If they don't, ask the teacher". 😢

I enjoyed seeing this video. Perhaps these passionate/highly skilled teachers could move on to take Lead Practitioner roles (instead of the phased out AST roles). These really skilled teachers could also become chattered and can work across a Trust or across schools.
