Trent's Treasure Hunts is about getting out doors and looking for treasure. It can be metal detecting, gold panning, travel and finding treasured spots. We might do coin roll hunts, gem searches, who knows? Let's see where life takes us!
I am a newbe to detecting and have the minelab xterra pro and garratt carrot. Can you tell me the settings you use in the tot lots to get Canadian coins. Loonies/toonies quarters?
Sure thing :). With the Xterra Pro I use park 1 with the sensitivity down at 5 in all metal. The Garret I set at full sensitivity. Generally if either is detecting a signal I dig it and mostly the find will be above the matting holding the bark mulch in place. If I am hitting the matting a lot, I will turn the sensitivity even lower. A lot of Canadian money comes in at negative 15.
@@paulkryskow3067 Nice! You have the right machines so I know you are going to find loads of great finds. Try to find a local club. You will meet like minded people who will share their experience and give you lots of tips. Let me know how it goes.
Hi there Trent. New subscriber here. Great video (and great idea of cleaning-up "tot lots"). You definitely recovered a variety of things on your outing. I look forward to watching your other videos.

@@USNVA-yn6cp Once you see the auto tracking icon on your screen you just run the machine. It will auto adjust as you go. At least that is my understanding and how I use it :)
@@USNVA-yn6cp I was just rereading the manual. The auto ground balance requires you to pump the machine to balance it. The "tracking Ground Balance" lets the machine continually adjust the ground balance as you go. I always run the tracking ground balance which is indicated by the frequency squiggle on your display. Hope this helps
I got a used one on eBay for $88 and it had the o-ring replaced as it was sent in for repair before being sold. I love mine and once you master the selectable sensitivity it's awesome!
Love this, been wanting to get into it since around 2005, but so much else steals my time. This would definitely be a place to Revisit ,Not unusual to find coins that predate construction/ development of a site. I.E., how many 70's , etc coins are in your pocket any given day? Very cool. 👍
I bought an xterra for my son and I have an equinox 800. Night and day difference. Save up for a better machine and end up having more fun and consistently dig better stuff. I probably dig 3 times more coins than junk compared to his machine. Now I have to come over and identify every signal for him because you can’t trust the xterra. But if you don’t care and want to dig everything it is a good starter machine
The Nox is certainly a superior machine to an Xterra. I think bang for buck, the Xterra is a great machine but you are right, you do dig a lot more junk. Given time with the Xterra, you do learn the tones and dig less junk. But it takes time.
The problem seems to be prior to 2000. Since they changed the composition to the modern coins, the vending machine operators have been complaining. The banking system is in the process of removing the old coins. Its already getting harder to find coins prior to 2000.
Thank you for that information. It was very helpful. I noticed all of your coinage was magnetic, except for a few enemies I have. No silver though. I just have American silver, most of which I got out of circulation.
