thank you for this tutorial. i was having the problem where the VST would not load in the second drop down menu. ITs b/c i was routing it backwards. I was routing the synth into the midi generator and not the other way around.
@@AbletonLiveTips- your welcome keep the videos coming very informative and I never been the one to get someone to 1k so I think that is awesome … checked off my buck list 🫡
In headphones yeah, but with stereo speakers where the sound will eventually blend at a certain distance, it can be helpful. If mixing with headphones, it's good to check the mix in mono, to see what might happen with speakers in a room.
Bought this plugin MANY years ago and trying to revisit it. Man, it is soo deep in functionality! I need to experiment more with it and those tabs. It's untapped inspiration and magic. :)
Dude same!! Hahaha I bought it when I started producing 5 years ago and now I'm sending demos to DRUMCODE 😂. I stopped using it and I saw Skream did an interview with Attack magazine about he uses it in his creative process.
I wish SOMEBODY would explain how to rout it to another track!!! I’ve been trying for ages. Yes I’m that dumb. No I don’t care to admit it. Been looking at RU-vid videos after RU-vid vid and I can’t find a single one that explains what tf I need to do!!! This is so frustrating.
In the session window (not the arrangement window) Just above the sends knobs, you’ll see ins and outs routings. On a track with an instrument of your choosing, select Harmony Bloom as the in from. And just below that there will be another box where you click on and select Harmony Bloom as well. And you need the record enabled on too on that track. Then it should get MiDi data coming from Harmony. Good luck.
@@avgusting8632 Once you have done what we discussed above, also the record enable needs to be on the Harmony Bloom track as well. In addition, launch harmony bloom and make sure the piano icon on the bottom left is lit up and enabled. (Note: in the settings you can choose to have multiple channels on record enable because both tracks need be). There is setting for that in Ableton. It may default to one track at a time only
Hi. You may want to try "Waves Space Rider" Plug-in. I now use it and it's awesome. It does the same thing as my technique, but it does it automatically for you. It takes the incoming signal and automates how much ducking of the effects depending on the signal strength, in real time. In that way, it only ducks the needed amount depending on the signal it receives. (I'll be doing a video in it soon i'm sure.) Thanks again DJ Burgstarre
I’m curious how this works with multiple notes (polyphonic) coming in on different midi channels. It would also have been nice if you’d shown how to bring up the automation choices in the clip view. I have trouble with that sometimes.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Hopefully i'll have time to do a more in-depth video on note expression with MPE and other automation tools. With Live 12 some things have changed "for the better". So an update is needed anyway. DJ Burgstarre
Nice tips! Thanks for sharing. Do you just play your finished track mix through this chain and record to an empty audio track to get your mastered/finished track? Cheers!
Thanks for watching! After I’m finished with the Master chain, (and get that limiter gain as high as possible) the track is finished and I “Export” my project in 24bit 48k WAV. to get the finished file. … Ready to put on SoundCloud, Spotify, or other media outlets. - Thanks DJ Burgstarre
Thanks DJ Burgstarre for the tip. I think this is invaluable when you're new to producing music. Another thing you're doing that's super helpful is writing the progression up there next to the markers. Lastly, I'd say this applies to all DAWs, so don't sell yourself short by limiting this to just Ableton... I use Ardour but I use markers in the same way. Great video.
The VST does not come with any sounds of its own. Do you know how to “route” it? Basically you would put harmony bloom on a midi track, then on a separate midi track that has an instrument and sound of your choice, you would then set the “input” of that track to receive midi from the harmony bloom track. (I’m sure you could find detailed RU-vid tutorial about how to route tracks) Good luck! DJ Burgstarre
@AbletonLiveTips- Your previous post did the trick. I had the routing backward. Live and learn. Thanks for the help, now to explore this vst more in depth.
Yes you can ;) ‘Easily export MIDI sequences with the “MIDI Export Button” to a designated folder, or use “DragDrop MIDI Export” to intuitively drag and drop them into a DAW or desired location for streamlined processing.’
Hello, Thanks for watching. If you have a clip in Session view, simply double click on the clip to bring up its waveform. Hope that helped! DJ Burgstarre
Thanks for watching! And thanks for the comment. The "One Knob Space EFX" is located : ...Path - Audio Effects/Utilities/Audio Effects Rack/Space/One Knob Space Effect. Hope that helps. Good Luck - DJ Burgstarre
Thanks for the comment and watching. Yes, there are a number of ways to use the device. Capturing the MIDI notes when you find something you really like is a good idea. You could even capture a few different ones to use in different parts of the overall track. I've just left mine random for the fun of it. DJ Burgstarre
Hello, Thanks for the comment. Yes, this quick and dirty trick is not perfect. However, I found a great M4L device called "AutoTuna" that does do proper Harmonies. Hopefully I can create a new video demonstrating how to use it, and some music theory to support the results. DJ Burgstarre
You could also create an fx rack or groups, or also an fx track to run audio into and map the same way, save the sends for other things amd also save anything being on the master track at all
really nice tip on the LFO controlling volume faders. I have been experimenting with generative music and ableton for about a year and really found myself diving deeper and deeper into that rabbit hole. It's a beautiful genre.
I think (don't quote me on this) that the 'monitor off' should be tightly in place even if the player were listening on the 'monitor on'. How I record precise guitars is doing the first method you showed (two tracks, one monitor on, one off) but then dial the monitor mixer in my interface to hear half direct signal and half the DAW. This way I've noticed that I can record spot on time. I assume my first sentence is correct because I'm following the metronome and drums from Live with all the plugins enabled and the record (monitor off) comes out perfect. Of course, the live playback on the 'monitor on' wouldn't match the guitar playing due to the high latency, but it helps to listen to the tone and feel of the effects in the track.
Thats a good idea. I am using these examples for people recording straight into the box. If you have a mixing console and the ability to listen to your live playing using the direct out of your console or even an amp with direct out, there may be other options for recording without latency because you may not need to here your Ableton Live routing. Happy Recording! DJ Burgstarre
Thank you so much for your comment. It keeps me motivated. I must admit I have the New Mac Studio which if you have the means is awesome for music production! Check out my latest track. DJ Burgstarre on.soundcloud.com/KxGr6Dpm3KjRHucV6
It's incredible...but would it work with a drummer and a band in the room? A mic would pick up all kinds of stuff... ever tried something like that? Should you use a hi-hat mic?
Hello, I believe the best use and reason for the design of this feature was to use it with a piece of HW. Like a drum machine, keeping your instruments in your session synced up to it or a live drummer. Others may use this when using Ableton for DJing. ..Where they are syncing up two tracks. I suppose trying so sync something quiet, against your live drummer in a small room would be a challenge, if not impossible. Because you're right, this will react to the loudest Tempo it hears. If you are using this to sync your session up to your live drummer then yes, the hi hat mic or kick drum mic would be a good choice. Hope this helps! Thanks, DJ Burgstarre
