Oh my gosh I absolutely loved this video and you amazing ladies. 👏 Thank you so so very much I have been looking for some rust removers. And I found you ladies. I am a retired Veteran and have been around in many aspects of my life (to make it short) I was raised with around and trained many. But over time (kids, military, life) I remember my hobby and that was being with my horse. Her now gone and now me with a 10 yo mare who has been thru a couple owners and I will be her last. She is 10 and I am 47. We are relearning together. Thank you again I will be searching for more videos. Bless you

How do you shut her down
@shondalahpinny9077
@shondalahpinny9077 5 месяцев назад
Probably a bit late, but to 'shut her down' or stop her is to remove the pressure, relax your energy as if you were to sit back in your seat for a stop. Turning your body away slightly directing energy away can help, stepping out of driving possition and slightly infornt of her shoulder can indicate a stop or raising your hand/stick out a few feet infront of her will shut her down too . Start with a Suttle gesture/the que you'd like to use for that response and then increase the gesture and apply more and more pressure and releasing when she yeilds. But mainly relaxing and sitting back/deep breath/releasing the pressure lets the horse know your intention is to slow/stop. I also use voice commands or a particular noise as I'm training that motion and it really helps with transitioning from ground to saddle :)

Will this work on a very placid horse who has gone feral after 10 years of no himan interaction other than hand feeding? I left home and im now back and hes familiar with me but completely different.
@begrittyhorsemanship6206
@begrittyhorsemanship6206 2 года назад
Hi Nero, Depending on the amount of groundwork/riding he had previously. If this is something you did 10 years ago… yes, but I would pretend he was learning all over again to give him the time to think and make the right choice. If he was left in a good training spot when you stopped working with him (ie: no bad habits or issues) then he should get back into the routine fairly easily. Good luck! Let us know.

What is meant by bump her?
@begrittyhorsemanship6206
@begrittyhorsemanship6206 2 года назад
Hi Tami, It basically means applying pressure with a bump so you apply it (get in) and release (get out). You can always bump again if needed. This way you are not pulling them…. Which encourages them to pull back. Bumping is basically a correction that is quick, gets their attention but then immediately takes pressure off.

Is it ok for my horse to slow down to a trot when going around the barrel when he was at a lope before
@begrittyhorsemanship6206
@begrittyhorsemanship6206 3 года назад
Any horse can digress in training or have an off day but if you know they can do better or have more ability then you need to push them to try more and/or apply more effort. Remember though when they do try or give you what you want, give them a release or rest at the barrel as a reward.
@mads958
@mads958 3 года назад
Horses that do that are called a push dial horse. My barrel horse is a push dial horse. When in a race when your about to go around a barrel instead of slowing them down keep kicking and smooching to them and push them through the barrel. Push dial horses automatically slow down at the barrel so there is no need to rate at the barrel. Just remember to keep pushing your horse through the barrel in a run!! Good luck!!💞

Is it ok for them to break down to a trot instead of continuing to lope around the barrel?
@begrittyhorsemanship6206
@begrittyhorsemanship6206 3 года назад
Make that your starting point. But to improve and pattern correctly they should be able to lope the whole arc around barrel. Don’t make it a big deal, just push them back into lope and continue. When they lope whole thing or really try hard , let them rest by barrel for a reward .

Do you have to do that every time ?
@begrittyhorsemanship6206
@begrittyhorsemanship6206 4 года назад
Annie Scerra depends on horse. You have to stay consistent. If they learn boundaries and respect , no , but just like kids they will eventually test those boundaries and you have to immediately stay consistent and repeat the process so they learn. Horses learn from repetition and choosing what takes pressure off them.

Do you have any videos that show/explain the backing up? I have been doing this with my horse but he is a Gypsy vanner so about the size of myra and find when I do the back up its a bit of challenge to exagerate the movement without catching the snap on his chin or trying to get my hand near his chest wihtout being in his face ...
@begrittyhorsemanship6206
@begrittyhorsemanship6206 4 года назад
Violet Gaylord there should be some more information in the Showmanship videos. But basically you need to create more energy in your horse, not you, faster and with steady pressure.... even if you have to add a lot of pressure immediately

Very happy for this rider/ student and horse that this instructor is out in the middle of the area right next to the student teaching and teaching great stuff. Than you for talking yo the student about how sawing on the reins and mouth is NOT COLLECTION. even if the rider is using leg to drive the horse forward and then using the hands in a squeezing, sawing or opening and closing of the fists, that is not how you ask for the horse to be through, round, on the bit, over the back or collection. So many get it wrong because there is so much more detail and education that is needed before learning all of this. Would love to see more full length lessons with students like this. It’s great for students and riders to watch and learn because they can see the mistakes and the progress. It’s great for other instructors to get more ideas from as well.

you’re welcome. I also watched your videos of the students jumping and you were doing a voiceover with some tips and fixes for her. I thought that was very well done. I watch a ton of videos and slow them down and pause them and rewatch them to help train and educate my eye for future teaching and riding. I think it’s a good thing to be able to do for your students because then they are opening up and expanding how they are learning instead of just taking the weekly lessons. Have you heard of the Facebook group jumping instructors live? It is a great place to come together for writing instructors and they have been doing some live videos and then also posting them on RU-vid after they are films and they have some guest instructors with some really great information and you’re able to watch live and then send in some of your comments or questions. They have some of the top instructors that judge and teach The young riders and juniors all over the United States and Canada. Just thought it might be some thing interesting that you would want to check out and join. The RU-vid channel that the live Facebook videos are uploaded to is the woman who is hosting the videos and her channel is Laura Kelland-May. m.ru-vid.comvideos

I like this way of dismounting a lot better because I feel it reduces the risk of the rider yanking on the saddle on contact with the ground especially if your horse is a little bit on the tall side compared to you. You're also less likely to tumble over over or hurt your ankle if you jump down on two feet instead of one because of balance and stuff. Great video, very helpful and I agree with it all!
