When I was shooting weddings before the days of digital I would come in close and meter on the couples face then set my exposure and shoot away. Love all the film stocks you mentioned.
Bought it and sold it a year later. It was nice but not as sharp as the 50 or 85 f1.2 RF primes which I already owned and as such didn't use it much at all. I hope Canon brings out a 20-40mm f1.8. Now that would be a game changer for wedding photographers to pair with an 85mm. 🙏
Video @ 4:14 "here's a photo" - One thing folks need to learn about using a rangefinder camera, FOCUS then RECOMPOSE. Too many new users fire the shutter immediately after focusing (the main subject is too centered with too much sky or ceiling; the foreground is much more pleasing). Instead, practice quickly recomposing using the two rules of GOOD photography. 'Rule Of Thirds' & 'Looking Room'
I know this is a 3 year old video but I don't care...Amazing Video!! Subscribed! I also have two mirrorless bodies but I also still use my dslr sometimes so I bought the ef as my first 1.2 50 I know the RF version is better but I wanted to test my self using a 50 first (very much used 24-70 and 70-200) and then maybe I'll upgrade! I also love the 35 and 85 combo.
Hi! Comparing the samples and i feel like the ef looks more natural and less digital It is gorgeous even if it is a bit soft it doesn't really matter I have the rf 1.8 witch is good but i'm in love with what i see Do you still use it or you switched to rf Thanks you
I agree mostly. The R7 is part of the Canon ecosystem. It is a highly capable 1.6x teleconverter. In my opinion, there is no “RF-S native” lenses. The IQ is so good, I can see why a lens like the RF-S 10-18 makes sense - to give you a realistic option for the wide side on this camera. But other than that and some travel lenses I see no point to RF-S lenses in the ecosystem. It is not trying to be a Fuji. I use a metabones 0.71 x converter - mostly on my old EF 500mm F4 L is. That makes it a 350mm ish F2.8… Which looks like a FF 550mm F4 but gathers light like F2.8 - negating the 1 stop drop in IQ in low light compared to the FF sensors. I dont see any IQ difference in good exposures. If by IQ you mean perspective and DOF etc then that is easy to fix. There is no such thing as a medium format look….it’s why those kids who sucked at math say they can’t put their finger on exactly what it is, but it is there…
I appreciated the honest review - how about one on the RF 50mm? I have the 35, and 85L - I have a nifty 50 and wonder if that should be my first RF 50L - thank you!!
Great video Zach. I rented this lens a couple of times ( Two Weddings and a Senior's shoot.) Although my Clients loved the images, I found myself wishing I Had had more Bokeh in many shots, like that from my f1.2/1.4 or a longer lens like an 85, 105 or 135mm prime. "I need more CowBell (Bokeh), Baby!" - In my Christopher Walken voice. 😂
Hello Zach, thank you for this video. Thanks to this, I will buy this lens. I also have a question. Can I ask what presets you used for this photo editing?
There's been a massive update in TAP presets and I know you're currently using Goodlight, but it might be worth checking out this update in the new video. Thanks, love your work!
How did you feel about shooting video with the 28-70 f/2 and only having ibis on your body ( and not IS on the lens too) was it manageable for hand holding video shots? Did you ever attempt to mount it on say a ronin rs3 at all?
this sounds like 'I bought the 28-70 after i bought the 24-70 so now need to justify keeping it' :D. Love the video man, seems like 28-70 is a good choice if it fits budget? Would you travel this with lens? Is it THAT heavy? For me the weight doesnt seem an issue but more the visual looks of it. Anyway to hide it when on the go?
This was a great comparison. Was the EF loud when AF’ing? I shoot more with flash and curious when shooting as the sun went down were you exposing for the face or underexposing? Could you give an idea of settings please. If your using histogram? Thanks
I think many people use the 85mm just like they use the 50 and step back vs us using it has a "full body portrait lens" The 85's DOF and distortion make it amazing when shooting full length portraits or even couples.
Thanks a lot for the video, as always! I just have a question about silent shooting with original R5/R6. As you do (or did?) a lot of classical concerts, how do you deal with banding in photography while shooting concerts silently? Greetings from Ghent in Belgium! :-)
I need your help, I have an option to change my 24-70 to 28-70 for a small amount of extra money, I am shooting video as well as photo, I am shooting a travel photography, landscapes, as well as portraits and videos but I have only one lens. What's your advice in this case?
