I just bought a 22 renegade 850 it had 470 miles on it. I put around 50 miles on it and I noticed it started making a noise in the rear I thought I had a stick or something stuck and rubbing something. Then I noticed it started howling and the howling would go away at 30 and start howling again at 32. I dumped the rear diff oil out it was new oil that had fine metal in it. So I took it to the dealer today and I told them what was going on and they said they never heard of can am having diff problems.
Most of these problems are from Xtra large, huge deep thread tires on lifted machines. Leave the machines closer to stock if you're going to beat on em in front of your friends. Showing off is a thing with RZR's...................
Hello, I would like to know how this happens? What causes the breakage? Is it possible that it is the front axle that engages the 4wd while driving that causes the gearbox to break? Large-diameter tires?
You said it with the last 3 words. Crazy big heavy tires with 2 in thread depth, insane. Some dealers set them up as per customer order but cut any warranty out. They do it anyway.
So it’s a open differential that provides power to both front wheels and when one happens to spin it provides the same power to both wheels. Don’t know when it would be 3 wheel drive
What about the earlier models? I have a 2013 Outlander Max XT 1000 and i haven't pulled it apart but there is alot of play in the axles and rear diff ...
i have seen a few of the earlier machines have bad shafts how ever if you made it this long with no real damage then your shaft is probably okay unless it is worn out u joints slip joint splines
Great videos, i have a question, 2016 can am xmr 1000r pulled rear driveshaft out there was no bolt on the engine side, is there supposed to be ? second the bolt to the gear case had 2 washers small and big, which one goes toward gear case ?
@mudNwheels well it did just have just over 4k in warranty work done lol. So it's good to go. Bnew front diff n rack n pinion n many other stuff. Come on down to manitoba then.
okay so true story. we just put one of our diffs and drive shafts in ostacruisser's 21 renegade . the shaft in that bike was almost 2 degrees out of phase. i can say this the issue has gotten better over the years but it is still not perfect. so when you buy your new machine it is worth having a look at it
@@mudNwheels thank you so much I didn't wont to spend that kind of money an this is still going on I really injoy your video's. I wish I could ride up there with yall it would be awesome but I am in 🇺🇸 amherts va.
The drive shaft do a banana shape when the splines are as loose as they are, this condition create pulsating radial side loading on the bearing assembly, leading to a reduced service life and premature failure. Prop shaft phasing is also critical to transmit the rotational forces from the output ( transfer case ) to the input ( diff ) the most fluidly possible, avoiding pulsating load on the driveline is the key . Typical causes of these are, poor manufacturing processes, to much torque applied to drive line ( More power Yoh!!! ), lack or lubrication, or lubricant contamination by abrasive materials that will exacerbate the wear in the splines over time( earth, sand and such ).
m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m6tQ9_kOqrM.html This high pitched noise when relase throttle,if it can be due to the bad phase of the drive shaft, nothing is done, everything is factory
Is there much point if rebuilding a diff and reusing both gears to re-shim or is that just calling for trouble? I understand that reshimming should be done if pinion and gear are being replaced but what about if reusing them?
good morning. typically on used gears we tell customers to put them together the same way they came apart. if you try and adjust them you are asking for trouble. please let us know how this works out for you cheers
@@mudNwheels had a feeling this was gonna be the answer. My OEM diff is shimmed at .6mm ( .2 and .4mm shims) for backlash manual calls for .2mm ad a starting point lol
@@TheSponge945 let me re phrase this. you can try to separate the boot and shaft and try to line up the yokes. in my experience this will make the phase worse as the splines are 6-7 degrees apart.. for the record i am speaking of a shaft that has never been apart at the slip joint
@@mudNwheels got an email I can send ya a photo too and maybe you can tell me what you think of mine and if it’s phased out!? By my naked eye it doesn’t look like it but I’ve also not had any others to compare to..
the short answer is no. depending on the year there were many changes. if you are talking about a new style gen one diff 2015 and up and the same vintage g2 diff then yes
