Hi and thanks for visiting my channel! Asaf Sirkis here, a drummer, composer and educator living in London, UK
This is my RU-vid channel where I post music videos and Konnakol/drums tutorials.
Enjoy! -- ”Since arriving in London from Israel at the end of the end of the ‘90s, Asaf Sirkis has earned a reputation as one of the world’s premier drummers”
I am Japanese and we use 332 pattern very commonly because it works better with Japanese syllable structures than triplets. I didn't think any kind of Konnakol sounds this familiar to me.
Hello! Subscribed! There's a song called "Kopolo" by Gbiné Orchestre that I can't understand the meter. Could you help us maybe? Greetings from Argentina!
Thanks for watching. I never heard the song Kopolo but found it easily here on RU-vid. It is in 9/8. Not so easy to hear as the rhythmic pattern might sound displaced if you're not familiar with this style of music (like me). I hope that helps.
@@AsafSirkis Thank you so much Asaf! For taking the time to look! I also wanted to thank you for the Konnakol course that you uploaded to the channel. I'm going through chapter 17. Thank you very, very much. From Argentina
Thank you! I use remo coated ambassadors on all drums except the BD which is a remo CS black dot. For most of the smaller toms I use clear diplomats for bottom heads and clear ambassadors for the bottom of the larger drums
Yep. this one broke my brain. I can kinda do 5/8 rhythms over 4/4 between my feet and hands (drum set), but these 5s over 5s... wow. Super cool though. I realize these are slightly older videos, but it's great for learning konnakol. Thank you, sir.
These lessons are great, and I attended a workshop you did at Morley College a few years ago, I have just started watching and completing the exercises again. I am having trouble working out how it fits with the rhythms in my orchestra music. Have you got a video or any advice about that please? Many thanks
Hiya, Thank you for watching the video and for coming to the workshop at Morley! I'd have to see specifically the rhythms you'd like to practice in order to give you a definite answer regarding your question but in general, practicing Konnakol will help with elevating your rhythmic awareness. Also, you can always break the rhythms you're trying to learn to groups of 'TaKa' TaKiTa' and 'TaKaDiMi' so you can understand the rhythms better.
@@AsafSirkis Thank you for your reply. I tried to copy a bar in but it wouldn't work! I probably need to carry on with the videos and all will become clear in the end. Many thanks
Great solo he’s using them in a musical way not just bashing his drums like most drummers do these days with no sense of dynamics or lightness of touch.
