It's a damn shame the fancy diet didn't do anything about cancer, or Dr Michael Moseley's lifestyle philosophy didn't guard against early death from heart attack. Of course they killed Christ for saying we should be nice to each other, so...
Such an incredible man. Recently found out I have blockages in 4 arteries, the one on my LAD is borderline so they didn’t stent me. I feel like a ticking time bomb, I guess im still in shock but have started this diet and am praying it will give me a chance to see my kids grow up. Has anyone here had a similar experience to me, extensive disease and managed to avoid surgery or further surgery ? Wishing you all blessings and good health
The emphasis is on epithelial cells. I wonder is it possible that this diet is good for the circulatory system at the expense of other parts of the body?
Thank you for sharing this Jenna! I know it is 4 years after the original post, but I have been really interested in Dr. Esselstyn's findings. I question a lot about protein, olive oil (still many studies show great benefits of it), worry of diabetes with such high carb diets, essential amino acids and fatty acids, meat/fish in moderation. I wish I could pick Dr. Esselstyn's brain. Many longevity doctors and even heart surgeons are mentioning that the older view of no fat diets is flawed ... of course, he is referring to whole plant based. The one key item that Dr. E refers to is "did the asian and rural africans eat it"? Well, did they eat whole plant based bought at our grocery stores ... diets are so controversial depending on who one asks and what research they will point to. Thank you again Jenna! Are you still fully whole plant based?
Esselstyn never reversed anything in anyone else he would have awards, honors or a Nobel Prize. He was never a licensed Cardiologist or RD and has no credentials in nutritional biochemistry. The artery image from the Esselstyn book is from his colleague Dr. Joe Crowe a general surgeon who at age 44 had a heart attack even though he was slim, a non smoker, not a diabetic, no high blood pressure and had low total cholesterol of 156 mg/dL. So Esselstyn debunked himself because Crowe had all the metrics for preventing heart disease but could not explain why it happened. He changed the Crowe diet to less animal foods but if animal foods caused the problem why did they not raise his cholesterol level high like Esselstyn says they will? Dr. Joe Crowe died at age 72 in February 2024.
There are so many videos saying olive oil is a savior for heart patients and many people are following that. This dr is opposite to them. Don’t know what to believe
My cholesterol went from 380 to 193 after only six weeks on his recommended diet. My LDL - C went from 280 to 125. I did not see numbers dropped significantly on a regular vegan diet that included oils.
Wonderful interview just learning about WFPB and started a month ago. Love the videos on RU-vid by his wife Anne and daughter Jayne. Great recipes to help me.
Thank you for going above and beyond to get this message out. You break it down in simple steps that make sense. I am so grateful for Chef AJ for introducing me to you and people like you, who are so passionate about healing and living a healthier life through eating a whole food plant based lifestyle.
I don't like hearing this because I eat nuts every day and sometime twice a day. I can't believe something that is natural would be so bad for you. But then he said he's only concern for people who have heart disease? So if you're healthy, are nuts fine for you?
Esselstyn was never a real cardiologist he was a general surgeon and they are not allowed to do any type of cardiovascular procedure. He also has zero qualifications in nutrition or biochemistry.
@@Jeffs60 I didn't say Dr Esselstyn is a cardiologist. I would say that is the same sentiment in regards to nutrition as doctors receive very little training in medical school, which is woefully lacking. Doctors have to learn nutrition on their own. Dr Esselstyn uses his 40 years of experience when it comes to how food impacts health including his own experience after adopting a plant based diet since 1985. I say that's more valuable than most out here. The doctor also recognizes the wrongs the medical professions he has observed over those 40 years and he's trying to right some of those wrongs. Nothing wrong with that.
@@darrenh5175 What caused heart disease was a product that had no animal fat or cholesterol in it. It was called shortening and margarine which is partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, and it was loaded with rancid artificial industrial trans fats which cause heart disease. The FDA removed these from the USA diet even though it was a high profit item. The FDA did not remove single ingredient ancestral foods like meat, fish, dairy and eggs since those foods prevent all disease unless of course someone consumes too much if it. So Esselstyn was wrong since he had no training in biochemistry or a Ph.D in food science.
@@darrenh5175 Once again Esselstyn has zero credentials in cardiology or nutrition biochemistry. He was a general surgeon and they have nothing to do with cardiology. A calcified aorta has nothing to do with diet or nutrition but the arteries do have a little bit to do with the diet. There are some people with valve disease but their are arteries are clean, only a real cardiologist could help you understand this and Esselstyn is just a book salesman to fool the gullible. There are over 500,000 centenarians in the world living right now and zero consume a diet anything remotely close to what Esselstyn promotes.
Do an internet search for athlete vegan whole food plant based. You’ll find a lot of athletes who eat this way including several pro NFL players and olympians
Esselstyn is not a RD and he never reversed any disease in any person else he would awards, honors or a Noble Prize and he has none in the cardiovascular or nutrition field. ORAC was debunked a long time ago. USDA Nutrient Data Laboratory removed the USDA Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) Database for Selected Foods from its website due to mounting evidence that shows the values indicating antioxidant capacity have no relevance to the effects of specific bioactive compounds, including polyphenols on human health. Specifically, the agency said no evidence shows the beneficial effects of polyphenol-rich foods can be attributed to the antioxidant properties of these foods, and data for antioxidant capacity generated by in methods cannot be extrapolated to in vivo effects.
this just literally changed my life, I have heart failure and Doc keeps adding more and more meds all expensive and who knows the side effects cardio, grams, CT scans, stress test etc. etc. Nobody said stop eating that shit food and switch to a plant-based diet. I love steak ,, milkshakes ,,melted cheese on everything absolutely love that stuff. But what I love more ,,,,is being alive !!! so here we go
I was recently sent to a surgeon.. he told me that its IMPOSSIBLE to clear blockages with change of diet. Thats when i knew he was an educated fool. My Bible says .. All things are Possible .
Being Italian, olive oil was the hardest thing for me to give up but I’m so glad I did. I am almost 66 years old and had an unnecessary heart catheterization that revealed my arteries were nice and wide and clear. Thank you Dr. Esselstyn for your courage to speak despite the criticism, and thank you for your compassion for those who are seriously ill. Thank you for all you have done to reverse heart disease and other diseases. Your work, and the work of the other plant-based doctors, have changed my life! ❤😊
I hear the docto say that the leafy greens needs to be boiled or steamed . I wish he could explain why. Can it also be raw? I wish someone would ask him why steamed! I prefer my romaine lettuce and arugula raw!
Romaine is not considered a dark leafy green and eating it won’t help. I agree with eating arugula fresh but suggest you do both (fresh and steamed). You need to add the other dark leafy greens steamed to get the full benefit.
