made the mistake of trying this, now I'm stuck after forest of fallen giants cause I'm in NG+ and doing no damage to the million enemies and dragon standing in my way.
Man, that method is so fucking stupid. Like even if you're a seasoned pro you're still fucking up your area by activating the Heide knights which you'll have to beat because they'll chase you and the dragon blocks Slayer and Targay. Beat up Maughlin, go through forest, buy key, do it again, buy pharros, do it again then clear out the other areas without taking on either boss and buy the yolo, get serpent +1 for being a big spender, kill hippo 12x then kill the one in betwixt. That's about 20 levels for free. If you're good then start as the explorer with all of his shit and his adp, if not then pick whatever suits. You're now at a massively high level, can use weapons or magics and you haven't made an area a pain in the ass, fought a boss or broke the sequence. You've also got all key items from old Dementia and you're getting just shy of 50% more souls. So that's 1491 instead of 1000 from the hippos.
Not sure if I'll get a reply cause this was years ago..but does this require online connection and calling the phantom in? I really want to try this but I'm on vanilla 360 DS2..
It's gonna work in offline mode, I never summon any phantom in in this run. Just start as a cleric or sorcerer with bonfire ascetic as your starting gift. Keep in mind that hexes are heavily nerfed in later patches of DS2.

Good tip but this makes the Ring of Binding very difficult to obtain by NG+ the Heide's Tower of Flame area. Before burning the Bonfire Ascetic at 5:25 should first head for Cathedral Blue's entrance to obtain the Ring of Binding from the corpse. Or even kill the boss inside first.
I realise now after doing this to finally do a hex build That hexes got nerfed and was very much about the same level as starting as sorcerer but more work
Tip : kill the old knight with sublime bone dust both the times that way you can get 2 of them right away, and also lower the bridge to old dragon slayer. possibly try to beat orenstien on base difficulty with the gold pine resin you get at starting area near the ogre as it becomes a living nightmare to get to him in +1 difficulty and you get more souls and beat him before you cheese dragonrider as it has no risk of losing souls of dragonrider.

A little late but,it's armor the seldora set boost soul gane and to acquire it would take to be mid game and farm certain enemy.For me it took me a lot of time to get the leggings. If you don't want to kill the merchant or farm the set, you can kill thiki gren the little guy by the bonfire after the undead chariot it's head gear and chest piece boost soul gain and in iron keep the jester gloves also have the same effect,by purchasing with a certain quantity on the old hagg and using the talk option she will give covetous silver serpent ring +1 this also has the same effect.
