as someone who’s dad passed away a few years ago, he always played the guitar and this song sounds like one he would enjoy playing and it brings me comfort in that sense :) it’s just a really nice song too, i’ve had it on loop for like the past half hour haha

This reminds me of this little old lady I met selling brick a brac, pieces of jewelry, trinkets, and all the jewelry making ingredients because she stopped making jewelry. She told me about how she lived in a farm and her husband who has now passed, used to collect things from the paddocks while he worked and he would bring them home to her, and she would make them into arty things, statues or what have you. Now she sits on her walker talking to marker goers. A beautiful treasure. I often think about that lady and how I'd like to visit her and drink tea and listen to more of her stories.

If I had been born two hundred years ago I would have been a sailor, and sailing I would go I'd sail around the Capes and across the seven seas and then back home If I had been born two hundred years ago And I would know the waters, and the waters would know me I would cut across the waves, and be as happy as can be I'd be landless, I'd be loveless, I'd be flight and fancy-free I would know the waters, and the waters would know me And when I think about the place and time where I was born I wonder if the hands of faith had slipped and placed me wrong 'Cause there are ships I could have sailed and sailors boots I could have worn When I think about the place and time where I was born But the ocean is still out there, magnificent and wide She's got open arms to hold me, and endless space to hide And the only things that hold me back are things I hold inside The ocean is still out there, magnificent and wide Sailing I should go

You hung around the bush like you were woodsmoke. What's it like to be hardly there? Spirits playing spoons with your bones. And I could feel you in the air. And every transport truck that I see. Is carrying your weight and leaving it on top of me. And memory's got my guts and I like that. It's keeping you so close to me. I can still see you and Jake. Smoking smokes and just dreaming big. I can still hear you and Jake. Cracking jokes and just dreaming big. You taught me how to be a working man, well I'm gonna work on you. You taught me how to be a working man, well I'm gonna work on you. Yes I'm gonna work on you. You hung around my head like a halo. On my mind but barely there. Spirits playing spoons with your bones And I could feel you in the air. And every…

Lyrics: [Verse 1] Lean in friend Lean in friend And I'll tell you a tale Be a good friend Be a good friend As I tread the stage awhile [Verse 2] It was late in the day The day after the fair When I heard tell of her She lived so far away Further, farther and beyond Well, you know they say [Chorus] She was old as the hills And worn as a train On rails of old steel wool She was old as the hills [Verse 3] And her sons were all gone Killed in battle and won By someone above 'stead of coming on home And her daughters were gone Followed love and they'd run To the city below 'stead of coming on home [Chorus] She was old as the hills And worn as a train On rails of old steel wool She was old as the hills [Verse 4] She had a bullet in her bonnet The last that she owned And her gun in her pocket To keep her strong when she rode She went fishing in the shallows For eels and minnows Which she fried up so nicely All salty and spicy [Chorus] She was old as the hills And worn as a train On rails of old steel wool She was old as the hills [Verse 5] And her dog was gone Whom she'd cared for so long They had whiskey and plums On his lavender bed And her love was gone When he heard the sea's song Left the shore all alone To travel the world around [Chorus] She was old as the hills And worn as a train On rails of old steel wool She was old as the hills
