How can you tell that the joint at the root is fully penetrated when using lay wire technique? I only dab so I can see the joint melt together then dap filler to build to toes. Too paranoid to lay wire 😅
About 80 -90 amps for the root. Same for the hot pass but turn your volts down so you don't burn through. And about 80 - 90 amps for the fill and cap. Same on pipe. For thick material you can burn hot. Thin metal just stay in the 50-60 amp range.
Why 60amps? I’ve been on 84 for vertical and 90 for everything else with 3/32 309L-16. Is it because it’s stainless to stainless with 308? Just asking because I ran some beads with 309 on carbon steel and it looked good so my company let me do 2G, 3G, and 4G carbon steel to carbon steel and it shot X-ray so now I’m qualified to weld stainless and I’ve never actually welded any stainless other than the 309 on carbon! I just wanna make sure I know somewhat what I’m doing before I get on some actual stainless. Thanks for the video! Your welds look amazing!
