Saluti Ciro
Thanks for this video. It inspired me to fix my old Kawai Piano. I made a 8 part series for anyone who may have a similar problem ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o2mUow-fC8A.html Its a different Model (PN300) to the one you are working on so I hope this helps someone out there
Ciao Paolo, I think yes but I cannot personally confirm. this other movie can help you ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Iz3lqUEc3Do.html
@@CiroAnnovazzi Ciao Ciro, thank you for the very quick answer. I think you are right: in the meantime I've done some searching on the Kawai global website and the MP11 SE adopt the GrandFeel action, the VPC1 instead the RM III action. Both of them (unlickely) have the same felt/teflon pad. I suppose that fixing with the original teraoka 777 will not avoid the issue to be back (it's a matter of time). Probably the solution showned on your link, with a thicker layer of teflon (0.2mm instead of 0.1mm) it is less keen to deform with dimples.
dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you are stoned like me atm you can watch all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother recently :)
It is not an easy job. There are many screws to open the piano and get to the mechanics. I’am a piano tuner technician for 35 years and experience has helped me in the operation. It takes a lot of calm and patience.
@@CiroAnnovazzi thanks for that. I will also ask Kawai Europe, maybe they can send me some instructions. I own a CS7 and have exactly the same (annoying) problem. What were they thinking? I thought my digital piano is maintenance free ... Hey Kawai, are you listening?
you can open the cs7 12 Screws (i have the same) and remove the upper part and the key cover. there a several videos in the net. Look for Kwai key repair
J Pelton Here are the Kawai parts numbers if you wish to order the parts. Part #: Description: Price: C11-020-05-815642B (slip tape) $48.00 + shipping cost C11-SH200 (silicone oil) $40.00 + shipping cost To order the parts please contact Kawai at 800-421-2177, dial 865 when the voice system answers to reach Jay Jones at the parts desk, he can assist with purchase and shipping options. If you contact Juan Escobar jEscobar@kawaius.com at Kawai support he will send you the service manual and repair instructions. At the time of manufacture, they replaced the slip tape at the end of the key switch (which contacts the hammer weight capstan) with a new type that gave more of a piano feel. Subsequently they found out that the adhesive gets on the surface of the slip tape and the capstan causing the key play to be sluggish. They have now reverted back to the former slip tape. When replacing place 1-2 mm from back of key stick.

As a Kawai tech I have my own shortcuts. I use a pin oiler filled with acetone and squirt it on the sliptape if it is the newer fiber based type. It makes the adhesive soft and the old sliptape comes off easily with the flat edge of a utility knife. (Careful not to cut at an angle into the wood!) It takes a few passes with acetone and the edge of the utility knife. But there is no need to sand the key if one uses acetone to clean all the adhesive. Some sliptape has rubber under the teflon layer and I find a short pass over with a heatgun softens the adhesive and the sliptape comes off easily by rubbing with your thumb. Careful not to burn the wood though. Also one must remove every hammer and clean the capstan with acetone. Even a tiny bit of adhesive on the the capstan will make the key drag. Finally, Kawai has now started applying a drop of silicone oil to the top of each sliptape. It makes the action quicker to play.
CHRIS DOMRES great way to repair kawai. I also made the other 87 keys faster as you explain. For the video I preferred to explain a system without risk of breaking the keys. 👍🙏
Chris: A customer of mine has a Kawai NV5. Two of the keys (C40, D42) stop sounding almost instantly after being played loudly. Any clue what the issue is? I'm not an electric piano tech, I'm an acoustic tech, but I'm the only guy in the area apparently
@@skipdowning2328 I have never worked on that model. It would be irresponsible of me to guess what is going on. Best to contact Juan Escobar at Kawai. I retired a year ago and no longer do any keyboard repair.
