I think the most important guide-point prior to filing for divorce should be: did you both do everything you could to try to resolve contentious marital issues, and you agree there is no further hope of reconciliation. Not much chance that most parties can exclude emotion and rigorously practice pragmatism during this stressful period, however.

Divorce happens!! Yes. It is never an enjoyable life experience. Nor is it inevitable [except when a toxic, contentious or violent relationship develops]. People don't marry with the idea I can and may need to get a divorce someday. But it sure seems to me that more energy/effort/training/counseling, etc. should be expended to avoid divorce whenever possible. Then you don't have to "protect assets and worry about damage to children". Usually, unless you have lots of money, divorce is a shockingly devastating hit on the family, family finances, and family harmony. A lot of these people don't have that many assets to quibble over.

Cant follow the theory that changing the perception of divorce will decrease divorce rates?? "We should approach divorce in a positive, proactive way ???''. So she suggests that if we envision divorce that is painless, empowering and insightful" it can reduce divorce rates??? [this is none sense]'. Nothing can change the fact that divorce is a disrupting, devastating change of family status and family relationships that have long term effects and consequences good and bad. How about this: Envision a world where senseless divorce is minimized. Seems like too many people use divorce as a loophole to avoid working on developing relationship and communication skills that all people need to succeed in any marriage. Certainly when people find themselves in a deplorable, violent, contentious relationship, divorce might be a viable option. But I don't agree that we need to develop a "positive perspective on divorce" if it can be avoided by educating people and getting them the requisite skills to resolve marital issues that arise. Then likely we could avoid divorce altogether???

"Truth and clarity"?? Kind and Loving messages?? Feeling bad is a "heavy wasteful energy"? Wow!! While I do feel this woman is a sincere, honest person, her suggestions seem kind of cold and arrogant. Of course both people, if they are human, will likely to feel bad in some way over the prospect of divorce. But, being a hard-ass will likely lead many people (especially men) into an extremely contentious divorce and contentious long term co-parenting situation for the next 20 yrs. Here's the deal as I see it: most people lack the requisite communication and relationship skills needed to resolve many of the marital issues/conflict usually faced in all marriages. A small investment in these skills would likely avoid the need to seek a divorce in the first place. Marriage ain't no fairy tale. In any given marriage relationship, you are guaranteed to have to deal with the "good, the bad and the ugly." People (men and women) today have many unrealistic and selfish expectations of marriage. They use some of the most superficial and trivial reasons for blowing their families apart. Not likely that even following these rules?/equations, either spouse will be quickly moving into their fairy-tale happy future (in my opinion), unless. they work on correcting the damaged thinking and behavior that got them in trouble in the first place.
