After many years as a woodworker I would like to share some of the tips and techniques I have learned. Woodworking and woodturning are pursuits where new things can always be learned. I enjoy sharing with others and RU-vid gives me the opportunity to do so.

I would be happy to send one of my stickers to you!
I was wondering why I cannot find any woodturning with this wood and I am guessing this must be why. Wish I was into turning back when I was living in Red Deer. You know of any turning groups around Barrhead? (just 2-3 hrs north of Red deer). We have an abundance of Laurel Leaf Willow around the acreage and was surprised when cutting some at the darker grain with growing excitement that perhaps I've found some easy to get beautiful wood for turning... The tree itself is so brittle with branches giving way and breaking with the slightest pressure and that sure got me curious what it would be like to turn. Thanks for sharing your experience! I wonder if there is any stabilization or treatment to make it more ideal to turn (something that doesn't require a lot of products and work :p)
Try contacting the Edmonton Woodturners Guild (www.youtube.com/@edmontonwoodturnersguild625). They are more likely to know of turning clubs just north of Edmonton. Sorry that I don't have that information for you. Thanks for watching! .....Gord
@@GordonRock1 Thanks for the response Gord I might just have to check them out. You did great work with that tough to work with wood and produced a beautiful bowl! I'm definitely subscribing and checking back :)
Thank you for subscribing. I hope you will enjoy my other videos. I hope to be adding more turning videos soon. I am nearing the end of my chemotherapy sessions. Take care, .....Gord
This video has helped me immensely as i took the head cover face seal out to clean and had left it to long beforei reassembled it so forgot how 😏😂.. when i reassembled it tho i wasnt totally convinced that the elastic loops were supposed to go inside of the anti rotating caps (marked L&R) so i let them loop around the outside of them to the front of the mask... this way they wont interfere with the workings or doing up the retaining bolt properly. Have a go and see if it helps/improves things and thanks so much for the video 😊🫡👍
I'm happy that it helped you, Adam. I hope to get back to turning very shortly - after a year of chemotherapy. When I do I will try to remember you tip. Sound like a good one! Thanks for watching! .....Gord
I am always pleased to see that you have a new video up. Partly because you always have interesting stuff and partly because it means you are getting better. Nice little box today. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thank you, Phil. I'm glad you like it. It was to the point where I was tripping over the cords and that's just plain unsafe. Can't accept that, buddy! Thanks for watching! 😃 .....Gord
Hi Gord, Great to see you again and a nice upgrade. Maybe next time you can put a box together "dry-fit" and then just spritz thin CA everywhere..... the joints i mean.. 😉. Thats how i do it when it does not have to be pretty. Thank you for making these videos..... i just have to sit back en watch, relax for 10 minutes 😃 Greetins from Holland.
Hi Gord, I bought an xtool m1 a few months ago and still learning how to do things with it. Actually I find it fascinating. a few weeks ago I bought the riser and the honeycomb base as well. This video is good and teaches me more things so thanks for sharing and please keep em coming . Kind regards Bill from Victoria Austrealia.
Just curious...What drove the choice of the D1 vs. the S1 that you've released other videos on lately? That's a handy website. You might make a video on all these sites that offer free designs or design-aids.
I just knew someone was going to ask me that, Jim. I made that video about two months ago and then forgot all about it. When I saw it earlier today, I realized that I had not yet published it. I guess I got caught! 🤣😂🤣😂
Nice to see you again Gord and doing some thing in your shop! That box looks like it should help get rid of the cord mess you had and keep it better organized, well done and thanks! Cheers Al
I love this product! Not only do I turn wood but I'm a silver dealer and I buff using jeweler's rouge with cotton and wool pads. Very dusty and dangerous stuff. Thanks for the demo Gord!
Glad you like it, Huw. I don't know where I got the files. I just did a Google search for Halloween projects. It did take some to find free files but I'm cheap so I didn't mind taking the time do it. XCS lets me import SVG files and converts them to XCS files. I quite enjoy using this machine. Why couldn't they have invented these while I was still young? 😢😢😆 Have a great day, my friend, .....Gord
Great job on the review of this incredible laser, Gord! I could tell you were having fun and that means more to me than any machine. Lookin' good, buddy, keep'em coming! 😀
Sure is good to see you back in your shop and having a lot of fun! That laser is very impressive and it makes some cute designs, do you sell them do grandchildren get to play! I hope your health is getting better and time will put you back to full health! Very enjoyable video and thanks! Cheers Al
Glad you liked it, Al. No, I don't sell anything that I make. It usually goes to someone in the family. SWMBO makes those decisions! I have been feeling a bit better and I'm hoping to get to the lathe in the not too distant future. We'll see! Thanks for watching, .....Gord
A saw? A saw? Wait, I have heard this term before. Let me think……… oh, right, those things that old woodworkers use. Right, now I remember. 😂🤣😂🤣 Thanks for watching, Scott! Take care, …..Gord
Thank you so much, Mark. I hope to be back to the leave very soon. I’m really enjoying working with the laser engravers, but it’s certainly not my passion like Woodturning is. Thanks for watching! Take care, …..Gord
I don’t think that’s going to happen, Bill. Gayle is incredibly camera shy and does not want to be part of my videos. Thanks for watching, buddy! …..Gord
It's great to see your videos coming on a regular basis. Heartfelt best wishes from one survivor to another. I am seriously considering buying one of these, in no small measure, because of your videos. I have a couple questions: (1) Do you exhaust the smoke out a window, or use the machine they sell to take care of the smoke? Which do you think is better? (2) On a more general note,, Are there sites to download designs, for free or cheap? I know that sort of thing exists for 3D printing. Do those designs work for Lightburn, XCS or either/both? Thanks.
Thank you for the best wishes, Jim. Much appreciated, my friend. (1) at the moment I exhaust the smoke out my garage door. When winter shows up, I would definitely love to have one of those smoke purifiers. It gets seriously cold here in Alberta. (2) there are many sites to download designs. Some are free and some are fairly cheap and there are even some that are quite pricey. It just depends what you want to burn. xTool has an amazing selection of designs that are being made both by the company and by many users who upload them for others to use, and in some cases to purchase. Some designs are made for Lightburn, some are made for XCS and both programs can convert to some extent other companies designs. I hope this is of some help, Jim. Take care, …..Gord
You seem to be toing well. It's great to have the videos coming again. It shows that things are going well for you. I am wishing you the greatest and soonest recovery. The lasers are fun but I am looking forward to some more of your turnings. Have a great day my friend.🙂🙂
Thank you for the kind words once again, Glen. I really appreciate you, my friend. Yes, the lasers are fun, but I am so looking forward to getting back to the lathe. I may just give it a try tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for watching! …..Gord
Gord you sure showed how great that machine is. With you at the controls it made some very cool things. Great review my friend, Sure looks like it has the power! Gary
Thank you for the kind words, Gary. I can't wait to get my strength and stamina back so I can get back to the lathe but this is a good way to spend my time for now. This machine is a lot of fun! Thanks for watching, buddy! .....Gord
