Hey man. Congrats on getting to where you are now, Devin. I'm Joshua, a fourteen year old Sudanese student from Australia and I'm hoping to move to London, UK and study at Imperial College London to become a consultant neurosurgeon. Thank You for the career advice and you'll see me at ICL very soon 😁
What are medical school exams like? Are they multiple choice questions or do they consist of essays and long answer questions? I’m a biomed student and am looking to do medicine after my undergrad and was just wondering what the transition might be like🙏🏻
From what I remember, most exams will be multiple choice. There may be some that are short answer questions. Very rarely will you have essays and if you do, they will be coursework and not exams. It also depends highly on the uni but overall just think multiple choice mainly.
Hello! quick question; The last 2024 UKFP guideline state that the deadline of qualification from med school was 3rd October however they want a PLAB1 booking confirmation by 31st August. How can one get the booking confirmation before qualifying as you cannot open a GMC online account without qualifying?

I was in Beit in 85/86. Back then it was a total dump, with half of London coming in to use the sinks in the communal bathroom as a toilet. Plus drunks from the Union bar making relieving themselves in the corridors at the weekends. I'd hope it's improved a bit since then. I had friends in Linstead and that was a palace by comparison. I also see that hideous monstrosity "Southside" has been demolished. The food in there was truly foul, basically it was unfit for human consumption. Happy days!
I have this case and the similar ESR case and I don't know how anyone could recommend spending three+ times as much for this Paperlike folio. The ESR does everything this expensive case does at a fraction of the cost (currently $19 vs $70) including the pen flap magnetically holding to both the back of the case as well as the folded-back cover. The big problem with the Paperlike is that the magnets that hold the Pencil flap closed over the Pencil are not aligned correctly so the flap is barely holding on. Without a Pencil the flap lays closer to the fold, where the magnet is, and it's much more secure feeling that way. The ESR case does not have this problem. And, as you point out, in a mere two months your very expensive Paperlike case is already fraying. Color me not impressed at all.
Life is about purpose. The purpose of helping medically humans or animals has got to be one of the greatest in society. Lifes success metrics are not based on capital alone. Pablo escobar was unofficially the wealthiest person in the world from his drug enterprise which many people died in violence and the devistation his mass supply of cocaine had on society. Huge respect to doctors and you. My uncle was a cardiologist and was hugely respected.
Its a huge scam. The only reason I paid for it, was to get help to fix a restriction placed on my ad account they put on when my account was hacked. After getting access back to my accounts, the restriction for ads was still stuck on. I started paying for Meta Verification in January this year 10 months after trying to get help from the bot system. But now 4 months later, nothing has been fixed at all. No matter how obvious I make it, show them with screenshots the works. I may aswell be still dealing with a bot. Exactly one year to the date the restriction was placed, I finally got the notification the restriction was lifted. Yah I thought, but go to place ad's and no, its still there. Try over and over through the supposed human help your supposed to get, and still nowhere. Im now down to having to delete both my personal and business page, just to be able to reset everything without the ongoing restrictions that were supposedly lifted. I have lost count of the live chats/emails/ phone calls ive had with them to resolve a blatant issue that shouldn't have even happend. They have seen screenshots of the notification the restriction was removed and screenshots showing it's still on. Told to try this try that, but never goes any futher, it's supposedly been sent to the tech team about 5 times, but still nothing. Its one of the biggest cons if you are paying to get genuine human help for errors that are obvious and should be easy to rectify. To have to close my business page and start from scratch with followers is beyond upsetting, no wonder facebook has been pulled up for being part of why so many suicides happen. This is a 13month ongoing saga stopping me from growing a business by paying for ads. They allow scammers to keep scamming even after reporting. But block genuine people who have never done any wrong at all & won't even help them.
Apparently, you hate fairness. Remote areas deserve the same distribution of qualification as the desired places. But if only the desired places get the best doctors, which overwhelmingly favor large cities, remote places will continue to suffer because of snobbery and not what doctors our for: to serve humanity.
Do you know what they call the person who finished bottom of their cohort in medical school? Doctor. We don't exist to serve people at the expense of our mental health. You want to attract the best and the brightest? Then the hospitals need to make themselves more attractive. Offer incentives. Offer training opportunities. Stop paying just over minimum wage. I wouldn't want my doctor hating their life every day wanting to quit. You seem to want to bankrupt doctors with £100K debt, shove them around the country then pay them dirt cheap and expect the best and brightest to sign right up? Smh.
Idk about international students but for home students once you've gotten to the interview stage there's around a 60% chance that you are successful in receiving an offer, not 1 in 3.
This is interesting… the color coded system to identify specialty/role seems like it could be beneficial and I like the idea of sustainability but hopefully they are very comfortable considering how long you work and how critically important what you do is!
the allocation hasn't directly changed how many get allocated to each place. That being said certain places have had to increase uptake because more doctors are graduating that usual because gov increased med school places
This would have been my qualifying year Never been happier to have dropped out just before year 5 of 6 In the time since I've quit ive been earning just as much with my BA Living with my now fiance in our house with no fear of being uprooted and travelling the word with all my regular hours and holidat Government do not support student doctors at all
Further alienation of junior doctors. The rules were changed really late into to process. This country will end up without doctors. I have never taught such a disillusioned cohort of final year medical students.
Surely if the number of placements hasn't changed and the average preferences of med students are still similar, this has always been the case? Except now it's people that did better at med school going and they don't feel like they deserve it "punishment" like low priority people used to
Actually, in the eighteenth century surgeons were called Mister because they worked with their hands. Physicians were called Doctor because they hardly touched their patients, other than take their pulse and a few other basics, and prescribed medicine. Physicians were considered "gentlemen" and were respected members of the community. Surgeons, on the other hand, were looked down upon and not considered "gentlemen". It was acceptable in Society for a gentleman (or his child) to marry a physician or his child, but not acceptable if a gentleman or his children married a surgeon.
This isn't any different in the U.S. In America, they aren't actually doctors. The proper way to address them is Surgeon So and So. They're commonly called doctors, because we just presume that's the system. Surgeons as a profession grew out of barbers.
Surgeons in America graduated from medical school and received Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees, therefore, they are called Doctor So and So. I've never heard them called Surgeon Whoever.
I think that is even longer ago. But would be part of the low status surgeons used to have. And now a Mr. Specialist is the highest level. We follow this in NZ too but I just call specialists Doctor if they are my Doctor. But their title is Mr or Mrs. But Mrs doesn't sound that formal also for historical reasons 😂
