From the start of the post is a 30 second countdown we didn't expect as the unexpected like the countdown used from "NBC Nightly News" every night on satellite feeds to local NBC stations, but at 0:26 is a stereo audio test (left, right) on the 9-8 countdown, used and heard and seen in satellite syndication feeds prior to a program, and a sync test at 0:31 on the 4 countdown. And we do miss these countdowns and feeds we watched when we were satellite dish owners.
I have been a certified skyward storm spotter and storm chaser for five years now I joined skyward storm spotting right after I retired from the fire service after ten years and we had an EF-1 tornado touch down 2 miles north of my community Belmont ms in northeast ms and I was the only trained storm spotter on that super cell with a well defined hook echo and my report isnwhat got the tornado sirens going so yes us storm spotters are very vital to the warning process these folks in my community are my brother and sisters and it is an honor to be their public servant
The first countdown is defintely what NBC Nightly News used in the 1990s prior to feeding their weekday 6 PM EST newscast to their local affiliates--I remember seeing it from my days of working at a local NBC affiliate from 1997-1999... I'm guessing the 4-channel audio test (where it says "Audio Track One (Three)" and "Audio Track Two (Four)") seems to be a leftover of when NBC used to use the MII videotape format for their news operations in the early 90s (and for a brief time, since MII was such a unreliable dog of a format, to be frank). MII (and higher-end BetaSP decks like the Sony BVW-70 & 75) could record 4 audio tracks total (2 linear tracks, and 2 additional AFM tracks (AFM, as in audio encoded within the helical video tracks, like VHS/Betamax/Video8 "Hi-Fi" tracks).
Oh, Brokaw! You bum, you! If you told me this straight to my face, I would have told you to take a long walk on a short plank. You could take a boy out of a small town, but you can’t take the small town out of a boy.
I'am spotter for the Jackson county area of Missouri ( The county that part of Kansas City is located in) and this video helps to show how fellow spotters help the NWS . Thanks for posting this .
I think it is a crap that such a great tradition is ruined by a very few. I see nothing wrong with the dance, nor any type of "sterotyping" of a culture. Makes me sick, and I am not a Ilini supporter. Stupid how some have nothing better to do than to ruin things for the masses.
@Djkaysay25 Well if you've ever seen family guy, south park, american dad, The simpsons etc. then you would know and realize they make fun of religion. It's easy to shrug off because I understand everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. Just because i don't agree with something doesn't mean i have to let it "offend" me. There are nearly 4300 colleges and universities in this country. If ones traditions and representations bother you then there are 4299 more to choose from.
@IndianLand25 its not supposed to be a real chief, its just a portrayal. maybe you dont know what that word means. indians gave u of i the chief regalia, so he didnt have to earn it... if u dont like it, get the fuck out of illinois, and if u still wanna bitch about it, get the fuck out of america
Honor? Are people aware that this dance is made up and a ficticious representation of a Native American dance? When Native Americans do this sort of dance, it's a religious ceremony. I doubt any religious group would tolerate any of their religious ceremonies being mocked for pure entertainment of others, His costume is not even a representation of an Illini Native American, only the Sue tribe wore headresses. This ceremony is pure ignorance on display.
Oy, how else can you let people know you're upset? You run around screaming 'I'M OFFENDED!' Then people listen to you- because they have to. Also- if any other group of people were used as 'mascots' LOTS of people would be running around going 'I'm offended!'
It really doesn't matter if I know him or not, he was one of the worst chiefs in history. He danced around like a white farm boy at a club. Awful. Maybe he should have maybe worked out in the off season and stretched out out a little. hHe always looked like he was just going through the motions.
srry have to add on to what i said through a seperate comment but i ran out of room. any way im not gonna complain about frats but hopefully u all see what im getting at. if i was a native american i would be proud of the chief, and i dont mean to sound rude or racist here and this doesnt apply to all of u but id like to let the native americans and african americans know that they havent been the only cultures mistreated in america
well said. im greek and i think that this should have never happened and im tired of all the politically correct bullshit. and what about fsu's mascot? he rides around on a fucken horse throwing spears! and sparty the spartan looks like an idiot but im a michigan state fan because im proud that someone chose to name their school after something that is part of me. and watch now im gonna be an annoying bitch and say that frats should stop using greek letters because they shame my culture.
I've never been so pissed off by something in my life. Why illinois, but not florida? And how can a bunch of people, who AREN'T from the original tribe, get rid of that tradition?? I mean, of course the Illini tribe isn't around because they were all killed by the other tribes (if you don't know what i'm talking about, do some research) but the other tribes in the area said they had no ill-will against it. So a bunch of hippies can get rid of it, and rule over the majority. Great country eh?
You've apparently never been to an Illinois football or basketball game. Pointing and laughing? Give me a break... FWIW, in 25 years of watching Illiniwek perform, I have never witnessed pointing and laughing. It's always been a matter of respect. But you--like the weak BOT--will believe what you want to believe. That much is clear.
well go ahead and fight to remove the viking name, because im guessing their are more natives to protest the mascot then their are for the vikings. GOOD LUCK>
If you don't like the Chief, dont watch him. Mascots arent racist, and this boy isnt racist. I'm amazed at the closed mindedness, braces-on-the-brains mentality of the "Native Americans" on this site...I am white, but my family was neither slave owners and did not kill or persecute Indians. And I resent when people lump me into that, as if it justifies removing a mascot of an Indian. What about a Viking? Shouldnt they be removed too? Intersting how 2bin is rather 2faced about it all too.
100% agreed..racism is making a come back in the US and its all directed towards white people and i redict that ull say im a racist just because ur bitter and angry that white people are now the most descriminated people in america
