Scale modelling misadventures and attempts to make models look more realistic. Mainly aircraft right now, but I will branch out into other categories like armour, boats, figures and anything else that is interesting.
The art of the scale modeller is to overcome the series of small problems one encounters when assembling a kit from plastic. Some projects are easy and some are hard, but the pleasure of completion is always the same. I hope to be able to share my journey with a series of unedited videos so that you can see what happens!
I will also include scratch building from time to time in order to enhance parts of my projects. Some of this might look complex, but it really isn't, being a series of simple processes.
Remember: "If Zin can, you can"!!
You may also like to visit my substack. Here, I write about the projects I undertake and other things that I might consider from time to time. You can find that here: zinzanscalemodelling.substack.com
You probably already knoe this but tge armored glass? You can either use (tamiya) smoke then an over spray of clear green or xlear green alone. I prefer a light shade of smoke then clear green. It adds depth to the glass
Dear Will, What an excellent suggestion- I didn't think too hard about this and am rather pleased you mentioned it! I have both clear smoke and clear green and am going to use this. I will try to remember to credit you. Thanks very much! Kind regards, Z
@@ZinzanModelling test it out first. So you can choose which one suits you. Don't forget the color goes on the inside not outside. ( of course you knew that. Lol)
Dear Darth, I appreciate very much your time in looking through the series- I am not the quickest of builders so it’s probably better this way for the sake of continuity! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the series! Regards, Z
Dear Darth, Thanks very much for looking in on one of my older videos- I fear that I may not have got any better at making these films, but I will keep on trying! Kind regards, Z
The main issue i had (and couldn’t resolve) was finding sufficient space to add enough weight to avoid being a tail sitter. I also think the bomb bay lacks sufficient detail and i think thr bay doors should split so you can add the gun pack and a light bomb load.
Dear Nick, Thanks- I read something about the weight issue when I was researching the project. One suggestion was to load the forward part of the bomb bay as well. Of course, this means that the bay must be shut, however that is my plan anyway. I’ll mention these things on the next video, because they’re all good pointers! Regards, Z
Dear Paul, Thanks- I think I’ll be recovered quite soon- this is just one of those annoying little efforts that comes and goes! As to the rest, I think my videos are a bit like those soap operas- you watch about five minutes of the latest one and you’re all caught up!! Regards, Z
@@ronaldbyrne3320 Dear Ronald, I think that these challenges are quite nice, but one has to be of a mind to do them! I suspect that is why I don’t do it so often. Thanks for writing again- always good to hear from you! Regards, Z
Love what you are doing. By chance are you going to do anything about the molded on seatbelts? They look " molded on" . lol. All that work in the cockpit and they kinda stick out.. Either way, your fun to watch.
@@willthorson4543 Dear Will, Thanks! You’re right about the belts, but I figured on using some optical effects with oils and panel liners just to see how it goes! It may not be the best, but maybe there’s enough else to look at to take people’s minds off it eh? Best regards, Z
Lovely work there Zinzan 👍🏻 Yes I always find the CA either sets too fast or way too slow...a splash of 'kicker' usually helps. Looking forward to seeing more. 😊
Dear Mr O, Thanks for visiting my little corner of modelling land! Yup- it's a proper bugger that super glue!! Anyway, we got there in the end! Kindest regards, Z
Sometimes I find foil to be more useful than Tamiya tape - thin pieces from kitchen foil and thicker pieces from wine bottle foil. By the way, I found zero-in to be perfectly acceptable, though zeroing-out does make me chuckle. However it is absolutely Zinzan charming.
@@FinsburyPhil Dear Finsbury, Thank you very much- also on the ejector handle comment too! I shall have to research when the colour changed now!! Kind regards, Z
Dear Zin, Did the ejection seat activation handles have a red & white strip paint scheme on them, and, if so, were you thinking of doing that level of detailing when painting up the cockpit?
Dear Tron, The handles were black and yellow and I will detail them because it would be “standout” detail. The pilot’s seat area in particular is very open and the instrument panel will show little in the way of dials and needles etc, so I have to make up for it elsewhere! Perhaps the eye will be drawn away. We shall see!! Thanks my friend! Regards, Z
@@BennyCFD Dear Benny, Thanks for getting in touch- Glad you liked the procedures, but I fear that narration may be my only vice! It always seemed to me that a little commentary has been welcomed in my pieces to camera, but there are a lot of people in the world and I won’t please everyone of course. Anyway, you took the trouble to write so it’s only right that I take the trouble to answer. Consequently I trust that you won’t mind the somewhat lengthy response. Do tune in again, it would be nice to hear from you- I may tell jokes next time. Sometimes I do this but not always! Regards, Z
Very good progress so far, Zin. I love the embellishments you've made to the rear face of the instrument panel. Most effective. The Canberra's a wonderful aeroplane and a perfect showcase for the prodigious talents of a certain Mr 'Teddy' Petter. Looking forward to future editions of this build.
@@markfranks1329 Dear Mark, How jolly decent of you to write- thanks very much! There’s more to come with this one, particularly in the detail!! Regards, Z
@@Exgasman9072 Dear Mr G, Ah- I fear I can’t help myself! I’m having pills for it and injections too- the doctors say it shouldn’t last long.. Regards, Z
Dear Zin, Were the ejection seats, in fact, Martin-Baker-Eddy seats, and, if so, were they "zero-zero" or did they have a minimum ejection altitude? Also, given the relative locations of the bombardier's seat and the navigator's seat, with respect to the location of the pilot's seat, would the pilot have to have exited before his crew mates (or vice versa) and, if so, was there some sort of automatic time delay between pilot ejection and bombardier / navigator ejections? P.S. Just read the Substack posting in re the Canberra - great writing, and yes,, I believe you are correct that NASA still uses a B-57 as a research vehicle.
Dear Tron, The seats were early Martin Baker variants, in fact several throughout the life of the aircraft. I strongly suspect that they were “min alt” seats in the fifties too. In relation to this and the ejection procedure, I would have to refer to the crew notes which I will do- it may take some digging. Thanks! Regards, Z
Very good work in the Canberra plane, one of the jets i like very much. like the lighting is another very beautiful plane. very good video. Greetings Mp
Dear Manuel, Thanks very much! I thought that this project would interest me as I stage a return to the modelling desk and so it has turned out to be! Regards, Z
I agree with you Z - a newly tooled Lightning, TSR2 and Canberra (in both 1:72 and 1:48) would sell very well. The Canberra especially, with all the marks, schemes and users would ensure many years of releases.
Great update Zin. I use the white glue alot for various reasons. I do think it's a stronger fix .But the main reason is I don't end up leaving thumb prints.
@@plasticmonkey5594 Dear Mr P, Thanks- I think as you do and in lots of places, white cap is actually easier to use! I didn’t consider the thumb print aspect, but you’re absolutely right!! Regards, Z
Dear David, That's jolly decent of you to say so- many thanks! You may reset assured that I will continue!! I am progressing in various areas!! Regards, Z

Welcome back from vacay, Z! Hope you and the family had a wonderful time. Thanks for update on the MRAP. All those fiddly parts and you have the patience of a saint. Cheers, my friend
@@paulysworkbench Dear Paul, Thanks- all was well and continues to be so! I think people seem to like looking at the small assemblies which are a little challenging. Thankfully there were no flying components! Hope all is well there? Regards, Z
Dear Panos, You're very kind sir- but I am sure that you could do this too! I hope things are going well over there for you and you're not too busy! Regards, Z
Zin - really well done with those very tiny parts. I suspect parts of that size are now just about out of the range that I am still able to manage, so kudos to you. Is the cricket season completely done with for this year?
@@tronmcconnell4465 Dear Tron, Yes we are finished with Cricket and not a moment before time as the rain has arrived! It’s been successful with the first 11 winning the league by a good margin and the second 11 gaining a promotion- mission accomplished! So it’s back to the modelling desk and there will be new projects to look at together with some older ones to complete! Thanks for writing, it’s always good to hear from you ! Regards, Z
Like building an old pocket watch. RFM have amazing full interior kits. Tiger 1, Sherman, Panther and Abrams were all well engineered, long build time projects I have done. Wish they would expand into aircraft kits. The only truck model I have in the works is a 1/35 Hobby Boss White, 666 Cargo that I am modifying into the truck from the 1953 film, The Wages of Fear.
Dear Mr SEM, Thanks for dropping by again- nice to hear from you! Your modification sounds intriguing! I hope you're successful with the project! Regards, Z
@@ZinzanModelling Wow three exclamations, Z. Thanks for the reply. I am after a fourth (!) if you have not seen my latest posts on my reveal vids. Getting better with video editing. There are two on 1/24 Spitfires, new P-47 and FW190 posted if interested. Looking forward to seeing more of this and your Corsair build.
@@SEMJW Thanks so much- I took another look and will pull up some more of your videos because that gets the algorithm sending them my way. I recall the FW190, but I'll look at the others too.... Regards, Z
Thanks again for another tour, Z. Seems to be a very eclectic hobby shop with a wide variety of subjects. No paint, though? Hope you are enjoying your holiday, my friend. Cheers!
