I well remember this game. USC was trying to win their 3rd straight National Championship with an all world offense. But this was the game that opened my eyes to the fact their defense was not up to the level of the previous years. Fresno was not quite good enough to take them down.....then in the Rose Bowl USC put up a then record 574 yards of offense and scored 38 points........but gave up 41 to Texas. Close but no cigar.
Ah the perks of living working in Dallas at the time Ole Miss was 3-0 in Cotton Bowl wins. The Eli game was interesting nice weather for January. The year before the streets were covered with ice.
LSU was very lucky in this game. They needed 5 turnovers, multiple missed FG's, and a missed PAT to win by 5. Not a fan of either team just an objective observer.
Honestly, a really good game. Alabama completed dominated the stat column but special teams and field position, both staples under Beamer at VT, kept it close. Thank you for all of the highlights you’ve made.
