Building healthy gospel-centred churches for Scotland’s poorest communities
Our long term desire is to see Scotland’s housing schemes transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ through the revitalisation and planting of gospel-preaching churches, ultimately led by a future generation of indigenous church leaders.
To that end we will initiate a church planting and revitalisation effort by recruiting training supporting and sending church planters, female outreach workers, ministry apprentices, and short-term interns to work part of church planting teams within Scotland’s housing schemes.
We believe that building healthy, gospel-preaching churches in Scotland’s poorest communities will bring true, sustainable, and long-term renewal to Scotland’s schemes.
I'm a Christian for 43years from a mixed marriage in Glasgow. I was a prod and she was a Tim. Both gloriously saved by grace. Believe it or not I find it hard to call myself a Protestant in case people think I'm sectarian. I've had ex Catholic friends who love identifying as true Protestants because of the great darkness they have been delivered from. It's actually a Catholic term for those who believe in justification by faith alone. In America these terms don't cause a stir because they don't don't have sectarianism like us.
Having been to the US for the first time late 2018 I have eaten at Chic-filal and here in Australia we have numerous Nandos restaurants and to which I confess is my favourite...... I was once told by my late father if I ate any more chicken I would grow wings. Lol :) Great hearing this insightful conversation.
I was in Edinburgh just last week. A very unique place regarding it's history. It was my third visit in five years. I prayed one night asking the Lord for a street preacher, someone handing out tracts, anything! I struggled to find a "Church building" (that believes scripture) and isn't looking to attract the world.. To no avail, just to pop in and strike a conversation really and chat about Jesus. I hadn't heard his name mentioned once in 3 nights.. So I prayed. I wandered down Princes street, crossing the road, over the railway bridge, up the many steep steps, past the "devils advocate" across the royal mile, down victoria street, then onto bow street, proceeding through grass market. Then back again... However whilst on Princes street, with the wind blowing! I turnt my head to the side to see a huge monument of a man and a child beside him. On a dark, windy, wet night in Edinburgh in January.. I strained to catch his name.. "Thomas Guthrie" it read... Oh I think I have heard that name.. or have I.. Maybe not! Then I found this video. Thank you! A preacher!! Not the answer I was expecting!
The people in Gorgie are faithful to the Gospel. It's right next to a football stadium (will withhold the name in case it affects giving negatively) so there's a wide range of people coming in and out of that area all the time that desperately need to hear the Gospel - beyond the people who are living there. So grateful for the group of faithful Christians who have kept the building going all these years in that place and so grateful for 20 Schemes as they have prayerfully served this community.
How do you expect people to take religion seriously when the church won’t condemn stuff like men marrying men , gay ministers. These practices are anti Bible . That’s why the churches are shutting down .
Jesus has transformed my entire life and my 20schemes family has been every step of the way . Who the sun sets free is free indeed thank you FATHER God for your son Jesus Christ 👑🙌🏻🔥🙏🏻
I read in a chruch magazine, that churches are more likely to close in low-income areas wealthier ones. I give thanks to God for 20Schemes and pray for God to send more workers, and for God's guidance in where else, and his leading on when next to church plant.
May God guide and bless the brothers and sisters of Kilwinning Evangelical Church, and bring an increase in their numbers by the power of prayer and the Holy Spirit, Amen 🙏
Had the privilege of hearing Lewis at our church today talk about this move … will continue to pray and be lifting you all up now and over the coming year(s) during this transition … Soli Deo Gloria
Good luck to Lewis as he leaves Hope Church Bingham for Harestanes, he will be sadly missed at Bingham but its Gods Providence he has been cslled to serve in Glasgow.
The suffering that the pupils of Dr. Guthrie's "ragged schools" endured was so horrific that only a small portion of the 450 Scottish child abuse witness statements that I have read even come close to describing it. Nobody is accepting responsibility for the abuse.
WOnderful....may the Lord bless you richly in this vital work! Just one correction - Dundee is the heart of Scotland - it's Glasgow in the East - with nicer weather!
Went to biblical counseling here in the US (for marriage issues). Very little Bible and what there was, was wrong. Stopped with that counselor after a few months but the damage was done.
