Welcome all and join me in the Jack Jones Journey from 1959 to 2024 and experience the greatest singer you'll ever hear.
This channel is dedicated to the man I consider the finest singer of all time, Mr Jack Jones. Unfortunately, a lot of his songs are not easily accessible right now and I therefore have uploaded and will continue to upload as many quality recordings by Jack as is possible, for all to enjoy.
I currently have over 480 songs, including 42 full albums of Jack, many rarities and many songs which are otherwise totally unavailable online. The Home page has all the albums I've fully uploaded so far, by release date and in separate playlists from 1959 to the present day.
This is simply a labour of love for me and any comments, likes or subscriptions are greatly appreciated. My only real desire though is that every listener enjoys the wonderful vocals of Jack Jones.
tatsuro yamashita borrowed this arrangement at live singing this song😊 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v3qJtusR0HU.htmlsi=KUKWKN4nRY1BDZxG
Saw Jack at the Sands so long ago. He was my favourite singer still is. Met in Sydney and never forgot how special he is. Jack and his long legs as he sat on the kitchen counter talking to me. Pity I had to go to work.I was in awe of him.
❤ Jack took this beach boys song into a completely different stratosphere. It is so utterly gorgeous, and uniquely his. You fellow singers, listen to the phrasing, especially the last two or three phrases of the entire song. I can only think that he learned to circular breathe in order to get through phrases that long with such control. Apparently this album was hardly ever put onto CD; I can hardly find it, and somebody at Amazon wants $596 for one CD. If anybody knows of another opportunity for the CD at a significantly lower price, just comment here. Hope you enjoy listening!
I'll answer my own question. It's Marty Paich...heard a bit of tuba in the brass in the first verse, and that was a trademark of that brilliant arranger. Jack did several albums with Paich and another great arranger, Patrick Williams...an impeccable singer with impeccable taste! (Sidebar on Paich: Besides being one of the few arrangers up to writing charts for Torme, who penned many of his own arrangements, he also was the musical director on Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour...which was one of the first clues (to me) of just how musically hip and diverse Campbell was in his talents and tastes.) Some people call Jack Jones underrated. That may be true among the general public, some of whom only know him for the "Love Boat" theme. But it's never been true among musicians. The first time I saw Jones in concert was at Rutgers, where he performed an extraordinary mix of jazz and pop with the stompin' Buddy Rich Big Band, back in the late 60s. Rich never played behind singers who didn't have jazz chops.
Susan George makes it sound like a Bond theme (not a bad thing at all) ... her vocal has sparks of acting and intrigue. Jack's vocal, however seems very straightforward. That and the change of the chorus lyric "you want to marry me" to "will you marry me" makes Carly's wry reckoning into a more saccharine affair here. It was meant to be an observational song dripping with the bittersweet regret of a woman not fully convinced ... not a love song.
