BLANK EARTH Ceramics makes pottery by hand for everyday use. Each piece of pottery is unique and intended to last a lifetime, a refreshing alternative to mass-produced homeware. BLANK EARTH specialises in kurinuki - the Japanese art of carving clay from a single block, as well as Asian ceramics and modern tableware.
Well done. Porcelain is a challenge. This was fun to watch. Many thanks. I like looking around your studio too, seeing what else you have going on! Your manner is so charming. I enjoyed visiting!
I loooove your videos ! They are so inspirational ! I was wondering if you would make a video of how you clean your pottery space and how you keep it "healthy" to work in (silica dust) ?
Thank you and I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos :) Yes that is something I've been thinking more and more about and really trying to keep on top of cleaning - we just had a massive clear out and took everything out of the studio to do a deep clean so everything is looking so great now. It would def make a great video xx
@@BlankEarthCeramics Wow good job !! You must feel so good in your pottery studio now 😀 Looking forward to seeing your futur videos, they are all so amazing !!! xx from Switzerland
I just love all your makes! Was looking at your website and I think I might be emailing you 1st of next year when we decide to get new place settings. I love the shape and style of your dinnerware!
Hey you can calculate the shrinkage - this clay is 12% but we also made 10% more than we needed to be safe. When the tiler put them on the wall he just cut the edges to size :) This clay was a stoneware with some grog in it (www.potclays.co.uk/flecked-stoneware) but there are some clays specific for tiles like this one: www.potclays.co.uk/miller-tile-body
@@BlankEarthCeramics Hi! You said in the video you'd make a video or blog about what to do about the cracks that form with Kurinuki (to answer someone's email concern to you). Wondering where that is. Thanks
I love your cottages. I don’t work with porcelain and I hand build every thing. I am wondering how do you put your lights in the Christmas cottage ornament, and where could I get it.
Ah thank you so much! The lights are small led battery powders ones for balloons - they have a little loop on the end to thread through a ribbon for hanging :) There are lots on amazon x
Thank you!! I added some platinum lustre to highlight the stars after glazing - sorry I dint include that but I have a video of the process that I will share soon :)
Mixing dry mason stains directly into clay results in uneven distribution and cakey spots. To avoid this, place your stain in a bit of water and allow it to dilute for a short time. Then slowly add dry trim shavings to this mixture until workable. Turn it onto a wedging table and allow to dry a bit. Then add your clay choice and amount to create the preferred color value. I use mason stains often and have found this procedure consistent and predictable. Good luck!
Hey - I did think about this but I thought to make it easy for the first go I would do it like this and see the strength of colour and as long as I do it the same every time the results should be more or less the same :)
