I work on vintage German cars and usually have a beer while doing so. I’m no pro and I wouldn’t suggest you do anything you see here. Simply because it’s half a$$ and probably dangerous
I agree that the power bleeder works best. I own the same motive model and have used it on many vehicles. I don’t bother filling the bleeder tank with fluid. The air pressure alone does fine and it’s worth it to me to just make sure the master cylinder doesn’t run dry. Vacuum bleeders always suck in air somewhere in my experience so I don’t use them.
I'm a retired drywall business owner and have used above every heater there is I guess. The old Reddy heaters are the best and would last forever. Keep the plug changed or clean and they are gold. The newer heater's on the market have a computer board and are not as reliable. The radiant heater's are awful to fuel and the more you use them the harder they are to start. I have a 30 by 30 garage and this is what I did. I made a metal peace to sit in the bottom of a window and put the space heater outside on a covered platform. I used a normal thermostat mounted on the wall inside from the heater . I ran ducting from the heater to the window. All the sound is outside and the heater draws constant fresh air. I also use diesel fuel in it. .When it warms up I undo three screws and put the heater back in the garage in storage for the summer..55000 btu.
Enjoying your videos on the 914. Just purchased one myself. Would it be too personal to ask what Translog charged you? I am thinking about trying them.
Sorry for the late reply. I honestly can’t remember. I can say for sure it wasn’t cheap, but you get what you pay for. I can’t remember their labor rate but Tony will tell you if you ask. He’s pretty up front
After running the Remington/Pro temp HH-70-SS and the Mr. heater 70K, you'd think I would know, but I'm still interested in hearing about other people's experiences with these heaters. My Remington quit after 8 years or so...the Mr. heater has a thermostat and I'm still trying to figure out the cooldown cycle with that(If you only have the rocker switch, that makes it easy)...I ran the Mr. Heater outside the garage the first time and it didn't shut off because it was trying to warm the outside to 42 deg., LOL Thanks for your post and your review
In this video, it sounds like your torpedo heater's fan bearings are probably shot, which makes it sound louder than it should. The underlying combustion sound seems to be about the same with the torpedo heater having a more throaty and pleasant sound.
You can adjust the old one so the smell in not as bad. Look up diesel heater adjustment. There is adjustment of the air mixture or pressure i forget. I have three of these type.
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (Babvvo + Tebbvo law ) !!!!!!!!!
Hey mate just finished a 3yr rebuild on my 930 so watching your posts reminds me how much time and effort these jobs take...you're gonna love it, it's so worth it..wheels for me only black or they look awesome in body colour if the car is white, 15-20mm lower than euro ride height and you're game on. Coming along great well done 👍
I run mine on diesel fuel instead of kerosene. It burns cleaner than kerosene, no smoke or smell. Diesel puts out more BTUs than kerosene and it's alot cheaper too! My carbon monoxide detector has never gone off. I don't keep any door or windows open, eveything is sealed tight. It only has to run about 15 - 20 minutes to heat the shop then it shuts down.
@@joeysowell116 It don't "shit" down it shuts down. I have one with a thermostat built in so I can set it at whatever temp I want then it just shuts down and starts up when it gets cold in the shop. It's a Mr Heater 80,000 BTU.
@@pauliebots I ran kerosene in my smaller one (50,000 BTU) and didn't like the smell, so I run my new one (80,000 BTU) on straight diesel and there's a little puff of smoke when it comes on cold, but burns clean after that. I do smell the diesel when it first fires up, which I don't mind, but no smell after that.
Strange I added a comment and it never showed up. I am slowly working on a 1986 930 project myself. Decided to split the case and do a full engine rebuild as I had no service history.on the car. It needed the valve guides replaced with it 68,000 miles on my car. Pretty common issue with hot running air cooled turbo 911 engines. Check your head studs, if their non-magnetic it means they are still stock Dilavar alloy,.and are prone to cracking due to age.....
Thanks for creating and sharing this video . 👍 (very helpful). I need to use bleach sometimes. Since no bleach is going through the pressure washer internally using the foam cannon, is it ok to use bleach in my foam cannon? Thanks---
This is my first foam cannon and I wasn’t sure how to use it. Thank you for showing me how to. I’ve got the same foam cannon and agree with you. I was pleasantly surprised with the good quality of a foam cannon for less than $20!
I had to do the suspension pan on my 76. Found a donor car out in the California desert. Had the guy(Vince Delgado) cut it out and ship it to me here in Tennesse. Built a jig before cutting out mine so all the attach points were in the right places then tacked it in. Once it was tacked I removed the jig and test fitted the a-arms. It all came out perfectly. Dont be afraid. It’s not all that difficult.
Unfortunately that was just the tip of the iceberg on that one. It was way further gone in much kore critical places than I anticipated. Ended up selling and bought the 930 project that I’m currently working on
Sounds like you have poor insulation…… Check #matteising #thebuildshow “Super Insulation” 1500 watts to heat & cool 3500sqft house including crawl space.
Actually loved it but it started having ignition issues. I just bought a new master torpedo and although it has more smell and is louder it’s better than my old one
Annoyingly my initial post was deleted. Here is the deal since I don't want to re-type it. You have a grey market 930, which some folks find more desirable then a NA car. There was a ban till 86 for the 3.3l cars. If you have a 70s car with floating brakes you have something valuable. The 70s cars command a premium since they were the closest to the race cars, 78 and 79 in particular. Sure, a long hood is valuable but who gives a shit when looking at a 930 comparably, at least in my opinion. I am familiar with not having the financial bandwidth to do this work and the challenges. Those seats are not stock fyi. The rust you see is more likely that the rear quarter has been replaced. Almost all 911s and especially 930s have been spun and damaged. My car is a 86, ignore BAT, the buyers on that site have more money than brains. They want low mile, rare color basket cases to dump into warehouses for bragging rights. Seems like that's where your long hood ended up. If you really want a 930 to drive, reach out to me, I have been through it all and continue to do so. If you want a 930 to flip then good luck. When it comes to 930 exhausts you need to consider allot of different things. Fabspeed is ok but they have their tradeoffs. Here is my journey - www.vwvortex.com/threads/possible-porsche-930-purchase-advice-needed.6751608/ The questions you are asking with 'afford'/'ability' I can help you with if you want. Good luck.
I’d say you nailed it with the comments. Only thing I guess I’m a bit lost on are the seats. Is it the fabric itself that’s not stock? Yes it does have floating rotors. That’s also probably correct on the quarters. Possibly replaced at some point. I will hop over to your thread and check out your car. The engine I bought is from an 86 because..well…that’s what was available for a number I could stomach lol
@@garagebeers1 Yeah, the fabric centers are something I haven't seen before. If it was a Japanese import then they got allot of funky options no one else got. Anyone's guess though. Floating rotors are a 78/79 only thing, they are basically 917 brakes I believe. The later brakes are much better but collectors desire those two years. Hope that helps.
@@garagebeers1 And the bumper warts/bumper frames are totally unique to a Euro 930, just an FYI. Hard to find here in the states. Does it have the headlight washer snorkels?
If you use carburetor cleaner or other solvents and paint, how bad is the smell from the burning of them through the heater? I have been using torpedo heaters for 30+ years and they are terrible in this respect and my biggest complaint. Maybe I need to go to a system that uses fresh air to the burner. What are your thoughts?
