I think you need to snip out that "three-legged pony" comments and paste that everywhere. That's hilarious. Anytime something is awkward in a video, three legged pony. Lol
Not much of guessing, I could clearly hear which one was the ampero, it sounds thin... Just got mine last week to downsize and replace my tonex pedal but cant get it to sound right, I will have to settle with my current rig.
Interesting take! We must be hearing different things. Many folks, myself included, definitely catch that VH vibe. After all, it's a Plexi - practically Van Halen in a box! But tone is subjective, and that's what makes gear chat fun.
Great and entertaining video! I'd leave the headstock just like it is~ looks Lovely! And you already have the creative "Jay's Paul" in the middle. Looks amazing! At first I thought it was a Greeny model. The inlaid Gibson logo sets it off. Great job on uncovering that. I Really like this guitar and what you've done with it, Jay. 💯👍
Thanks man! I appreciate it 😊 The guitar came out good in the end. I'm thankful for that. You're right and good call dude - Jay's Paul is still there in the middle. Have an amazing day!
Hey dude, I am familiar with those units. I used to have a PGA04 many years ago. Really good unit! I feel that impulse responses are more flexible than the Palmer unit though as I always found it difficult dialling out the fizz in the PGA04. Impulse responses feel and sound more like playing through a real cab and I have my Signature IRs which work for me so I use those. Have an amazing day.
Hey man, Im just here to offer some friendly advise. Far far to much talking. Im not here to listen to you play a who song which has been produced, manipulated and run through a mastering process. I learnt nothing about the amp’s flexibility in tone and sounds. No one cares about in-depth description of your guitars and effects. Be more like Kyle Bull. Less like you.
Hey, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! I get that the video was more in-depth than you expected. My aim was to provide the kind of comprehensive info I would've wanted when researching this amp, especially details I couldn't find elsewhere. As a professional musician who does a lot of studio work, I wanted to showcase what the gear can really do when pushed in a recording context. It's about demonstrating its full potential, you know? I appreciate the feedback, but I'm comfortable with my approach. After 10 years on RU-vid, I've developed a style that works for me and resonates with many viewers. While it might not be everyone's cup of tea, I believe in staying true to myself rather than trying to emulate or be others. I've seen Kyle's work - he's got his own talented approach to RU-vid. For me, though, I aim to offer something different that I feel was missing from other reviews of this amp. And isn't that a wonderful thing? That we are all different? It creates variety rather then everybody taking the same approach. The raw isolated tracks are included at the end for those who prefer that. I'm glad so many folks have found the video helpful and enjoyed the playing. Thanks again for watching, and have a great day!
Understandable 😊 Thats the one thing that I knew would be divisive about the amp. I'm cool with it but I know many will need a loop 😊 Have an awesome day!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed this one. Oh that’s an easy question! PRS MT15! I totally LOVE that head! More gain than you need, pristine clean tone, and plenty loud. It’s a beast of an amp. I did a video of the amp a few weeks ago - worth checking out, Have an awesome day!
@jayguitar thank you brother, appreciate the feedback and will check that out... subbed u as well... have a great night brother... and what cab would you recommend for that! TIA
@@FPVMgunit13 You're welcome. The MT15 cab is probably really well suited to this amp. MY personal cab is an old Line 6 oversized DT cab, but I changed the speaker to a 1979 Celestion G12-80 which I love the sound of. Thanks so much for the sub! Enjoy the other videos too!
Awesome video!! I have to agree, I own Feel High end guitars such as, Suhr Music Man jp6 , Gibson standard and Custom lots Fenders Stratocaster but the PRS is just in whole different levels. Thanks for sharing your experience and keep Rocking.
Thanks man! I’m glad you enjoyed this one too! Hey that a very cool collection of guitars you mentioned. I a really interested in a Music Man for a future purchase. I love the looks of the Luke and the Majesty. I have heard that even the Sterling range is incredibly good. Back to PRS, 100% agree with you. The is something very special about them right? It’s like they created their own level of quality which surpasses everything else. I love playing them as you know. Always happy to share my musical journey! Have an amazing day!
Thanks dude! and welcome to the channel! It’s great to have you here and I appreciate the sub! Enjoy the other videos and there are links to most of my stuff in the video descriptions too 😊🤟🏽 Have an amazing day!
Thanks so much for taking the time to check out the video man. I appreciate it. A friendly reminder that I timecode all of my videos so that folks can skip straight to the good stuff if that’s all they wish to see. I’m cool with that. With this amp, there was a lot more info that I first anticipated so it turned into a long one. But that info has helped a lot of folks out which is always a plus. Anyways, enjoy and have a great day.
Thanks so much man! I appreciate it! I so so so love the MT15 amp! It’s one of my faves! Did you see the video I did with that amp too? Enjoy and have an amazing day!
Hey Mike, how ya doing man? it’s been a long time! Hope you’re well and rocking bro! I’m glad you enjoyed this one! I appreciate you checking it out 😊🙏🏽 Have an amazing day!
Fellow August Leo? Find it funny I just bought a swamp ash PRS for my bday in August after watching your video on it. Discovered your channel that way and love your vibes, man!
Early Happy Birthday dude! Thats an excellent gift for your birthday! Which colour did you opt for? They all look great! I think if I were choosing one for myself I would go either Red or Purple. Have an awesome day!
@@jayguitar The blue was calling out to me and I had to go for it. My gf probably would have stolen it if I got it in purple and Sweetwater made it easy since they were out of stock on red haha. Rock on!
No one noticed because of the horrible one-dimensional marketing PRS did on this amp. Don’t know if it’s EVH necessarily, but the same circuits were used by virtually every one back in the 70’s, early 80’s in one form or another. I’d like to hear a really good in-depth demo of this amp now. I know initially I wasn’t interested simply because it was marketed (again by PRS themselves) as solely a Hendrix amp. But, that sounded killer to me. And, with something like a Hot Mod EVO, or Mr. Scary Mod who knows how good this could sound in that “Super-crunch” (which is what those 80’s tones are at this point) mode. Looking forward to getting one in front of my at this point. I have a Little Sister that does 99% of what I need it to do, but that 1%….that epic Soldano rhythm-playing, super-crunch (that virtually no one doing demo’s dials up anymore), is sorely missed. Great video, Jay…I had NO idea this amp could sound like that.
Hey Phil, thanks so much for the thoughtful and insightful comment. First I’m really glad that the video has ignited your curiosity about this amp! It is definitely worth exploring… well, in my humble opinion anyway 😊🙏🏽 Great point about the circuit. It did indeed stem from the same place - Bassman I believe - and then spider webbed to so many other amps that followed. Ah you’re a Soldano lover as well! Me too! I built a custom SLO30 last year, it sounds epic! There is a video somewhere on my channel. Anyways, I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! Have an amazing day!
But ur amp is not made by Marshall. Who knows what differenced u would find at a blind test your DIY Marshall wiring brown box vs a real Marshall plexi.
Thanks for checking out the video. It’s a good question! But, if it walks like a Plexi, and talks like a Plexi…. then it’s a Plexi 😂 I have played a real Marshall Plexi and my amp sounds like a Plexi, of that I have no doubt. Of course, there were differences between the early Marshall amps that were built because of a lack of supply of components, so Marshall used to substitute if they ran out of a value. But the essence and DNA of a Super Lead/Plexi amp ran through all the amps that were built. The circuit is quite simple - in comparison to modern multichannel amps - which is why the clone amps do actually sound just like the ‘real deal’. Anyways, have a great day!
I absolutely love this amp head however I play smaller venues and the only way I’ve found to get good tone is to almost max the volume which is too loud for the venues I play at but the sound of this amp is unique and absolutely amazing… when cranked .
Really good point! You do need an attenuator to play this amp live. That master needs to be cookin’ to get that high gain goodness! And when it is up there, it is glorious. Have an amazing day!
You know, until you mentioned the amp I had no idea that PRS had built that amp. I looked it up - the Hendrix/Allman amp. I am wondering myself now. Have an awesome day!
Ya I’ve been using a peavey classic 50 head since 92 but ya I got This hdrx head this year and cranked with my ox box as the volume control I love it .. also my various boost and klon style pedals it’s magic
I saw a video quite a while ago with Paul in the shop doing a demo with that amp. He cranked it up and walked into the next room and it sound incredible. You're correct though that all other videos just demonstrate low and mid level gain settings. I can't find that video with Paul anymore. Super good tune you've created Jay, the EVH influence shines through.
Oh thats interesting! I would have loved to see that. I struggled to find videos where the amp was wound up loud. I couldn't understand why but there ya go. I'm so glad I got one, it is such a great sounding amp! I'm glad you enjoyed the track too - I appreciate your comments and am grateful! Have an awesome day!
Hey Jay, we used to jam together at a studio near Garston, C. 2004, when I was living in the UK 🇬🇧. Awesome review! I have to look into this little monster. 👻 👽 🤘🎸🎸🤘
Doesn’t sound like VH to my ears but I have two of these amps and I do believe they are one of the very best values out there. Stock, these sound like late 70’s rock machines and I’m still surprised they aren’t more popular. The HDRX 20 is essentially a Super Bass circuit and EVH used a Super Lead circuit in the Roth days. I’d say this amp has a sound without any pedals very similar to Alex Lifeson’s sound from What You’re Doing. It’s a great amp.
Hey dude, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the amp! You're totally right about the HDRX being a killer value - it's like finding a golden ticket in your Wonka bar! I hear you on the VH vibes - maybe my ears were picking up something different, or maybe I was just channeling my inner EVH that day! 😄 Your knowledge about the Super Bass vs. Super Lead circuits is spot on. I've built a few amps myself, so I really appreciate that technical insight. You nailed it with the Alex Lifeson comparison - that "What You're Doing" tone is pretty much spot-on. It's like the HDRX is a time machine that takes you straight back to those late 70s rock glory days. And hey, about it not being more popular? Well, maybe it's just too good and people can't handle the awesomeness. Thanks again for the awesome comment. Rock on and have an awesome day! 🤘
great tones man. I must say that as both a drummer and a guitarist the drums in the opening track were truly cursed. not sure how you achieved that lol
Hey! Leave my crappy drum programming skills alone!!!! 😂 😂 😂 I blame Superior Dummer - thats my excuse! So cool that you are a drummer. Maybe we should work together. The amp is great isn't it? I love that tone! Anyways, have an awesome day and back to my questionable drum programming 😉
Oh yeah I actually have a replica of that.... thats like a oxymoron right, replica of a replica! Lol! I will give that a try. I did think of it and then didn't try it out. I know EVH used the Schaffer at some point as well. Have an awesome day!
In all seriousness, I love how genuinely excited you are about this amp. You’ve convinced me to buy this amp. I LOVE the tones you’re getting out of it. Keep rocking out, brother. 👍🏻🤘🏻
Thanks so much man! I appreciate it 😊 🙏 I'm glad you dig the tones. Its a great little amp. I'm so glad I got it and it does what I thought it would! You too, keep rocking and have an awesome day!
Hey, I mean, since you got that HDRX you obviously don’t want that MT-15 anymore. I happen to have an empty amp spot in my rig setup. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. 😁🤣
Haha! You will have to pry the MT15 out of my cold dead hands... I love it THAT much!!! 😂 I wonder what both of these amps on the same track would sound like 🤔 The old brain is tick, tick, ticking... Thanks dude! Have an awesome day!
@@jayguitar yeah Jay that amp is amazing its got the eddie vibe all over it but also important its in your hands you got your own twist on it take care brother
Hey dude, thank you for your feedback. I understand that the video might not be for everyone. Just a friendly reminder that the video is time-coded, allowing viewers to easily jump to specific sections they're interested in. It lets you all focus on the parts most relevant to you without watching the entire video. Feel free to use the timestamps to explore the content that appeals to you most. Have an awesome day!
I think it sounds great but I think you should have cut out a good 4 minutes of talk and replaced it with 4 minutes of isolated tones. After all the tones are what it’s all about 🎸
Hey dude, thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your suggestion about including more isolated tones. While I understand the desire for more audio examples, I found there was actually more essential information to cover than I initially anticipated. Many viewers have found this background information helpful in understanding and applying the concepts. That said, I completely understand if you're more interested in the audio demonstrations. To make it easier for viewers like yourself, the video is time-coded. This allows you all to easily skip to the sections with tone examples or any other parts you find most relevant. Feel free to use these timestamps to customise your viewing experience and focus on the aspects that interest you most. On this particular video, I really only had four tones that I had dialled in hence the short iso tracks section. There are so so so many other videos showing the other tones which I would encourage everybody to check out for the variety of tones that this amp can do 😊 Have an awesome day!
