I read a short story by Nnedi Okarafor; it was interesting but not enough to really know how I feel about the author. I've had that Becky Chambers book on my TBR for a good while so I enjoyed hearing about that!
Yay! Love this. I hope you enjoy the rest of the murderbot series. I also loved Psalm for the Wild-Built. I loved the second book - A Prayer for the Crown Shy - even more. Happy reading!
You always have the coziest vlogs 😌☕️ I am SO impressed that you completed the 75-hard challenge. It’s something I need to do but I have zero faith that I could do it right now I’ve been meaning to check out Murakami but I’m a little bit intimidated by his books. Glad to see you enjoyed Kafka on the Shore 👀 maybe I’ll start with that one
Thank you, Marisa!! I definitely did enjoy Murakami, but also think I could only handle one book a year by him, maybe two. I don’t know what that means really haha so still very much processing
I always enjoy your wrap ups <3 you are very well spoken and to the point with your reviews. Your videos are refreshing here in the booktube world where I feel original thoughts/opinions can sometimes lack
You’re not missing out on Freida McFadden 💀 I read The Housemaid and that was enough for me to never seek her out again My friend just lent me a copy of The Only One Left so I’ll be reading that this fall too! First time reading Sager for me as well I really enjoyed the agggtm series but just be prepared for some YA moments 🤷♀️ if you suspend your disbelief a bit you can have fun with it hahaha
I remember your review of the housemaid when you redid the book cover! You’re one of the few people I’ve seen on here who isn’t obsessed. I trust it. And okay!! First Riley Sager together! I cannot wait to see how you feel about it. I have a 10 week hold 🙄 so we’ll see when I actually gain access to it. Ready to just have a good time with agggtm!
@@mansparekh I read Kafka on the Shore last year. I found the writing mesmerizing, but it was hard to get over the portrayal of women. Thanks for asking :)
I’m also SOOO picky when it comes to thrillers so I feel you sm on this! I think you NEED to read Gillian Flynn 👏 she’s the only thriller author I’ve given 5 stars to. I think all of her books are phenomenal but Dark Places is my favorite!
I have read Gillian Flynn! I read Gone Girl after I watched the movie though, so I can never tease apart those feelings- the only reason I didn't include in this video. Love that story though. And then I read Sharp Objects, which was a 3 star for me. But I will definitely look into Dark Places!
Totally agree with you. The characters in this book all feel like puppets of the author, especially the female characters, who are both dumb and illogical, making them completely unrealistic. I can't relate to any of them. Additionally, the story concept lacks originality; it’s almost a gender-swapped version of Hitchcock's 1951 film Strangers on a Train. the so-called twist is bullshit.
I recommend pretty much everything by Tana French - start with The Likeness if you enjoy dark academia / The Secret History. It’s a slow burn compared to some of her others but was great! Riley Sager and Megan Miranda have fun, fast paced thrillers, but they’re nothing to write home about, usually can finish in a sitting or two. Also a coworker recommended I read The Accident by Linwood Barclay and I was shocked at how fast paced and fun it was, despite the cover looking like a book from the grocery store 😂 so I’d definitely recommend that one. And if you enjoy it his “Falls” trilogy was similar.
Thanks for all of these recs!! After doing some research, I’m adding Tana French to my list. Specifically the Dublin Murder Squad series, which include the Likeness
Many years ago, my dad recommended me to read Pillars of the Earth. He ended up buying it for me and I read like the first chapter, and then DNFed it. I was very young at the time, and not ready for that kind of read. Now that I am in my 30s, I decided to repurchase it at my thrift store. Its on my TBR for this year!
If you’re still looking, I recommend the mystery romance book I’m currently writing! It includes enemies to lovers, “who did this to you?”, found family, an unpredictable high school murder mystery with betrayals and plot twists, and a true crime podcast. It’s called The Blood that Divides Us and will be out on January 25, 2025 💕
If you’re still looking, I have to recommend the high school murder mystery romance book I’m currently writing! There’s academic rivals to lovers, “who did this to you?”, found family, an unpredictable murder mystery with betrayals and plot twists, and a true crime podcast. It’s called The Blood that Divides Us and will be released on January 25, 2025 ❤
I hope you love The Humans! I think this is a great list. I have Annie Bot on my TBR...I also have a different very long and unread Stephenson book on my shelf. I think the toughest one on this list might be Cloud Atlas.
I have such a hard time trying out new recipes and I love that you’re trying 75 hard in a more healthy way! I love the honesty and now I want to try this challenge!
Thank you!! You should definitely try it if it sounds appealing to you! Can just weave in your running and personal training that you’re already doing 😊

Ready Player One is pretty much the standard for the elements-of-nostalgia read, but that also means that being aware of those elements is key to getting the most out of it - you noted that the references "didn't bother you" but does that mean you weren't familiar with many of them? It would be worth watching Star Wars/The Shining/Back to the Future/etc. just to get more out of the story, but that'd be another binge entirely. I'd advise against Cline's other books, he clearly had people focusing him for this one story who were entirely absent for the others. But the movie version is definitely worth it, among the most entertaining films of the new century for sure 📖👍❤
Thank you for the comment! That is correct- I was unfamiliar with most of the references, and I personally found that it didn’t detract from my experience at all. Still gave this book 5 stars because of how much fun I had! I have not heard great things about the sequel so don’t plan on reading it. Happy reading to you!!
I love this video prompt! I’ve never read One True Love, but I do like Taylor Jenkins Reid so I’ll need to check this one out! 567 pages in one day!? That is so impressive! I’ve watched Ready Player One but never read the book! I REALLY want to read Hail Mary!!!! Love these recommendations!
Thank you!! I still haven’t watched the movie but def want to! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on project Hail Mary when you read it!! It’s such a ride
I’ve never heard of The Pillars of the Earth. You’ve got me interested and I’m adding it to my TBR. I really enjoyed Ready Player One and loved Project Hail Mary. So if you liked those then I’m sure I’ll like Pillars. Jurassic Park is a great book. I read it a long time ago, but remember not wanting to put it down. If you like sci fi that’s a good one. It’s similar to the movie, but not exactly the same.
Love the mix of genres here 👏 totally agree that Ready Player One is binge worthy! Which reminds me that I still need to check out the sequel (although I heard it isn’t as good 🫣) I’ve been wanting to read Project Hail Mary but I still need to get to The Martian since I already have it on my shelf!
Ugh yeah I heard ready player two is not so great ☹️ so probably not gonna pick it up myself. Don’t wanna ruin the magic! Everyone seems to have a different opinion on whether they like PHM or The Martian more! I’m gonna be so curious what you think
I also read Yours Truly in July and totally agree!! Absolutely loved Jacob but the miscommunication was so frustrating to me. 😬 I also read Just For the Summer though and it was a 5 star for me, I hope it will be for you too!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Crooked Kingdom! I loved both books in that duology 😊
I am so excited for just for the summer!! Hoping and praying it’s a 5 star ❤️ I’m definitely having a fun time with Crooked Kingdom! Way more action packed the Six of Crows
You are so sweet ☺️🫶 thank you for your kind words! I am SO glad you enjoyed Tell Me Everything. I think you described it perfectly, and I would also recommend it as an audiobook. Now I’m super curious about The Body 👀
the way you describe jacob from yours truly caught my attention because i adore male leads like that, however i recently finished just for the summer (my first abby jimenez book) and i was a bit let down by it so i don't feel as compelled to explore her other works at the moment. i did have a better time with funny story though! i enjoyed the romance between miles and daphne, but i think the thing that stood out to me the most was the friendship arc between daphne and ashleigh <3
the first person I've heard who hasn't liked just for the summer! i'm really curious to see how I feel about it. i completely agree about funny story! i'm a sucker for the friendship arcs
Low-key, this isn’t a book but I think you might like the good place!! It’s on Netflix and I think some other platforms too, I don’t know if that’s what your looking for exactly though
