Wisconsin Sea Grant is a statewide program of basic and applied research, education, outreach, and technology transfer dedicated to the stewardship and sustainable use of the nation's Great Lakes and ocean resources. Wisconsin Sea Grant exemplifies the "Wisconsin Idea" -- that university expertise should tackle issues of importance throughout the state, the nation and beyond.

Wisconsin Sea Grant is part of a national network of 33 university-based programs funded through the National Sea Grant College Program, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, and through matching contributions from participating states and the private sector.

UW Sea Grant is administered by the University of Wisconsin Aquatic Sciences Center (ASC). The ASC also administers the University of Wisconsin Water Resources Institute. The ASC is headquartered in the Graduate School on the UW-Madison campus.

It's a federal offense to touch or harass a net in any way and if you get caught removing it from the water you're likely to get shot by the Nets owner whether it is tribal or state

Sorry, but I think you missed a much better option, which is to use NO salt. I live in Madison and have a long stretch of city sidewalks to keep clear, as well as my 100-foot driveway. I haven't bought a bag of salt for 20 years or more. I use sand. Maybe we're unusually lucky in Madison to have a large supply of sand available to all residents, but wherever sand is available, it might well be all you need. It creates the traction you need on most types of ice. It absorbs heat from the sun, even on cloudy days, and helps to melt the ice. And it adds no pollutants to the waters. Why use any salt at all? That's my question for you.

600,000 is a joke ! This is ecological disaster in which the federal government needs to fund. We need billions to clean up this mess seriously.. set up export plants on the Mississippi to sell these fish to china by millions of pounds in order to try and eradicate these fish.. 600,000 won’t do a dam thing !

the pictures showing the "correct" amount of salt is not nearly enough salt to do the job. salt usage should definitely be limited compared to how much is typically put down by companies now, but just a few granules of NaCl will do absolutely nothing but make a few 1" wide holes in ice.

Do you have any videos about underwater springs? A lake near me has lots of large bubbles coming from the bottom of the lake and I'm trying to figure out what causes it. Many people say it's a spring but others have suggested different causes.

Yeah, that amount of salt isn't going to do anything. 14 lbs. per 100 sq ft is the tried and true amount.

informative Video! I'm wondering what is the size of the boat used in the video? Could this setup be downsized to be installed on a slightly smaller boat for smaller river applications. Any information would be helpful. Cheers!

Hi Josh - From my understanding, the electrified Dozer trawl is a conventional electrofishing boat with a push trawl added to it, so any boat that is or can be an electrofishing boat could have this added to it. Below are links to a published paper and a fact sheet on the technique. If you have more questions on the technique, I can connect you with the experts at USFWS and USGS that are using it on a regular basis to get their thoughts. Hammen et al Dozer Trawl - go.wisc.edu/58367g USFWS Fact Sheet - go.wisc.edu/zpn668 Thanks for getting in touch! - Tim Campbell, invasive species specialist, tim.campbell@wisc.edu

You shouldve filmed a bit longer so you could put emphasis on how fast they clear the water of algea by showing how much clearer the water gets, therefor how much they can filter. It clears up a bit, which is noticable. But they are an invasive species and is a problem for a certain reason, which is propably the reason the quagga mussel is shown here?

I think they did it on purpose to open up a conversation about what you’re doing. It also reaches they’re target audience better by providing information to people who clearly are ignorant of it considering we’re all watching a salting guide.

Focus on snow melt from Canada first. Focus on planetary systems that are above the lakes with the ability to affect wind and water gathering. Focus on other countries lake systems like China who is flooding out of control. This guy in rambling and saying nothing.
