It's always cleaner to separate your sub from bass.

Well generally speaking(because there's no rules- just knowing how to work around problems) its better not to have sub bass that is OTT'd due to dynamics. Its fine if its squashed with normal compression but having upwards compression on sub could soften its transients and impact. Now that doesn't necessarily mean you should have a dedicated separate sub. An option is to run a parallel chain(if you're in FL then use Patcher) of the same bass synth and low pass it, control its stereo width(you can have stereo sub if you want but just be mindful how that will fit in the mix), do what other processing you want on it(layered noise for distorted noisy highs, notching around 200-500 so it won't interfere with reese bass fundamental, ect), and then softclip or limit it until it brickwalls. BTW the reason for not always having a separate sub bass synth is because it sometimes sounds more organic to use the original sub bass(though parallel) because certain frequencies are adjusting in volume so it makes it more interesting(than static sub frequencies). Koan Sound is notorious for not having a separate sub bass. So consider both options.

Very well said! Totally agree with you! There's nothing dogmatic in art, so never set yourself any limits just because someone said it's right. In most cases I do separate my sub from basses, you can see it in most of my tutorials. Though I never do this to reese basses, and I consider this one a reese bass too. The reason for that is that I want to keep that organic wobbling and movement of the bass, it's just too alive and natural, that I don't want to spoil the vibe with a solid artificial sub.

@@PhenomSoundOfficial that’s exactly why I was asking! Ive been doing the same when it comes to reeses but sometimes I found that you can layer a sub under the Reese and it can blend perfectly just depends on the sound
