It’s called Toon Kicker. I don’t support the company. The bracket was more expensive than it should be and they were not very kind when I reached out for assistance when the cables wouldn’t clear the bracket when turning the motor. But they seem to be the only one making something like it commercially.
great helpful video! I'll re-iterate myself two things mentioned here, 1 shaft clean clean clean where this sits.Another commenter mentioned the bottom seal spring can come off when sliding onto the shaft (and you will now know it). After i got mine together i put it under pressure, bubbles! what the heck. carefully unbolted the cover and slid it up saw the spring under the seal not on it. Removed the cover (all in one with seals) recleaned the shaft, and took two tweezers to work the spring back on, recleaned shaft and bit more grease on seal....success 2nd go round
Any chance you could show a short video on how to remove the lower unit so I can change my water pump I’m having trouble finding the shift rod screw and I just don’t want to mess it up, but I really want to change it before the season. Thanks
I should have paid closer attention to your video. When I attempt this weekend the Torx Plus security screw stopped me in my tracks! Thanks for documenting this.

Good practice if you are driving seals in verses pressing is to pack the back sides with Vaseline or marine grease. Occasionally the impact will knock the springs out. Good insurance.

I think you hit your seals to far down in the housing. They should sitt flush to the top not bottom. now they are blocking the bearing flushing hole over the needle bearing.. I would expect lower lifetime because of this.
You must be living right !! Thanks dad for taking care of the engine for us... I'd change the water pump impeller just to be safe, after being stored that long. The impeller's rubber vanes develop a "set" and become brittle and can often break off when the motor is restarted after prolonged storage. Checking to cylinder head with a heat gun is a good thing to do. It shouldn't get over 150-160 degrees. Have fun out on the lake !!
Thanks for posting this! I'm going to add a kicker to my pontoon as well. Can you link where you got your brackets, controls, and Johnson cable pieces? I basically have the same motor to add as your Johnson 9.9.
I found the conversion kit on eBay. The cables are from Amazon. They are seastar brand. The mounting bracket I don’t support the company since in my opinion it’s more expensive than I think it should be and when I was having problems with it and called, they weren’t very friendly or helpful. This is just my experience. If you still want one if you google pontoon kicker mount, you’ll find them.
I was rebuilding one of mine when I noticed the thin brass idle-circuit pickup tube on the carb body that sits down in the bowl chamber had a hairline crack running the length of it. What kind of effect do you believe this will have on the idle mixture, lean or rich?
Pro tip: if you have warped bowls, get a piece of 200grit sandpaper & stick it on a flat pane of glass & sand the bowls flat. This only works if they're not too badly warped. Has worked for me many, many times. Good luck & tight lines!
Hi, thanks for video, I have exactly the same water pump replacement situation and discovered loose driveshaft seals... I shall order my set of seals today. BTW: Did you finally change the Exhaust Housing to Shift Rod Grommet? If so, do you have any remarks on that change? Or video? Thanks again & take care ;-) M@rek
Hi, I luckily haven’t had any more water intrusion since this seal change so I’m leaving the others alone from now. Maybe tackle next time I do the impeller. Good luck with your seal change. Wasn’t too bad. Just go slow and think and be deliberate. You’ll be good!
I had problems with the main motor on the boat last year so I still haven’t been able to use it. Give me about a month and I’ll be back on the water and I’ll update.
The knob on the side is fine idle adjustment for trolling since these were used as kicker engines a lot. Most of the knobs have since broken off or are inoperable. I was surprised to still see it on this one.
Nice man! About how big is the bow mount for it? I'm looking at getting one for my 9ft Colorado XT pontoon. I would go with the transom mount but its like $100 more for some reason. lol thanks
Great work! How is it working? I have a pontoon and am looking at a similar set up. Does the side mount work well? Does it have enough power? How long of a shaft do you need?
@@jnjsummers86 I have the 55lbs/54" GPS version on my JVX20, great motor but after 5 months the anchor lock no longer works and it does not get GPS lock.
