Jersey cows are very big. So no worries about size of the calf.

Honestly any question shouldn't be considered rude, just because you feel some type of way. There is no tone when it's a written question- it's how your reading it. It's clearly something that YOU need to internally deal with or just ignore them if it gets you this bothered. SMDH

Size isn't even the main thing for a good easy-calving bull, a smooth shoulder is very important and he looks like hes good 😊

We didn't have any issue with the fat going rancid over time. I always recommend using a recipe from a trusted source, and as long as it seals it should be fine.

A jersey/highland mix is my ideal family milk cow. While Jersey’s have quite functional horns if they’re not removed, they tend to be overly domesticated. Highlands are used to taking care of themselves and protecting their own. I watched a Highland bull take out 4 coyotes in two swipes of his horns in Wyoming one time. It was impressive!

I've seen a few ranches locally (northeastern Oklahoma) with highlands. Do they do well with heat and humidity? I am 1st generation American, and my parents came from Dunfermline Scotland.

I've seen some smaller versions of a Highland in Alabama. They MUST tolerate heat and humidity if SE Alabama is doable. They have access to plenty shade, but it's still quite hot and extremely humid.

Have you changed the firebrick by chance. I can't see how.
@scottfamilyhomestead
@scottfamilyhomestead 19 часов назад
We have not had to change them out. As far as I can tell, the steel supports would have to either be cut out or bent to make enough room to insert a new brick. From there, you could either use mortar to attach them to the side of the stove or bend/weld the support back into place.
@maryannepemberton3727
@maryannepemberton3727 19 часов назад
Ok thanks do much. I heard back from retailer who's aid you have to remove the steel in Firefox and remove side bricks first then sides. It is a bit of work but not steel cutting necessary. I'm just waiting for instructions how to remove the steel

@scottfamilyhomestead

@urthesmile4me990 We love it so far. It is perfect for our smaller kitchen and not overwhelming with the heat. I haven't had a chance to use the oven much as we installed it in the spring, but I hope to get it going here soon as the weather cools down. I will have a review to come after I've had more experience with it.

If you want to clean up the area and clear it for the removal of the trees then fence it and add goats, this will give you both milk and meat as they eat thier way to giving you a clean area around the cabin.

So we are raising 2 pigs for the freezer. First time for pigs. We purchase hog feed pellets. We also get produce from the local market. We were told they were approx 30 lbs when we got them on May 4th. They are mixed breed (Hamp, Yorkshire & Duroc). We measured our smaller pig at 133 lbs. Guessing the other to be 175. Question. Are we on track for their weight? Approx how long does it take for them to make weight if they started out at 30 lbs.

@candyarthur8568 We use this guide, with "days to show" being the number of days until butcher. Breed and feed will change your estimate, but it's a good place to start. gunnison.extension.colostate.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2019/04/porkulator.pdf
