Down where you collect the red coin star is some pillars sticking up. If you run around them the right way 3Xs they each give 5 coins. I think. It could be 5X & 3 coins but it's a bunch.
The big blue things *are* actually Thwomps! They just don't look like how they usually do- likely due to the N64's hardware limitations. Something something polygon counts.
