This has been one of my favourite songs of yours since I first heard it, Andy's voice just sounds so beautiful here ❤ Looking forward to the new album!
What a lovely song. I’ve heard it hundreds of times, but I never get tired of hearing it. I always thought it should’ve been a single outright, so it’s great that this song got its own video.
Finest Little Space is a great song. The harmony vocals on the last verse didn't quite work, and I've always felt since I first saw them in Oxford in the 90s the Truth were lacking a better drummer (i can't put my finger on it but the drum sound just sounds off ... maybe spends too much time on the tom-tom). That said, the songwriting is brilliant and for me, they're better than Radiohead's. I think the Truth are the best band never to sell out arenas. With this standard of song, the great vocal delivery, and the superb bass playing, they should have gone higher than reason!
I was there! I remember going to see Belly because at the time I was really into the Pixies and because of the whole Tonya Donnelly, Kim Deal , Breeders connection. I only knew Radiohead because of Live 105 and them playing Creep. I don't remember much from them as they were the openers and we only knew their one "hit". We enjoyed their set but werent wowed by them. They later turned out to be one of my all time favorite bands. So I can say I was there but I didn't appreciate them as much as I would in later years!
I saw them on this tour in Charlotte. The billing was Belly with Radiohead. But by the time they had gotten to that show, they had surpassed Belly, who opened for THEM! Small venue, was hanging out the side entrance before the show and chatted with them a minute. Didn't think much, since they were brand new, but now realize I had a brush with greatness. Glad to reminisce with this post. Thanks!
Superb! Building is a masterpiece. So much going on with it. The piano melody in the second verse, imitated by the lead guitar in the third verse (but not before a key change!). Can't believe this album is 25 years old, and still one of the absolute finest!
I've seen Genesis once, and that was in Feb. 1984 on the Mama Tour in Omaha. The light show still ranks as the most amazing visual spectacle I've ever witnessed in a rock concert, and that includes the multi-megascreen blitz (overload, maybe?) that was U2's ZooTV tour in 1992.
Great video. I don't know why the Genesis Archive people deleted these files from Birmingham. :) Carpet Crawlers and Los Endos really sound great and should be released anyway.
@sadsongco Fantastic. Huge fan of Jon's playing and have been for about 3 years before I bought my first kit back in 1991. I don't suppose by ANY chance you could tell me what the sticking is for that tricky fill on 2mins 20....? Thanks man.
Had to watch the video back on .25 speed to get it. It fooled me for a long time, but it's not too difficult - sticking is KL-RLR-L-RLR-KL(R+K), on K Sn - Tom Tom Floor - Sn - Tom Tom Floor - K Sn (K+Cym). When trying to work out RU-vid drumming the playback speed option is your friend!
The timing is a bit twitchy. And Jon Farris is one of my favourite drummers ever! Can spend an hour playing the most authoritative pocket 4 to the floor, and then drop something like this just to remind you he's off the scale talented, but more interested in the song.
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I’m a massive fan of his, this is just one of those bumps in the road I couldn’t get my head around! ✌🏼🇦🇺🥁
Thanks Phillip! I'm actually quite a fan of the IT rig as well, but that's because it's basically this with the Vari*Lite technology more developed. But in the end, yes, this is my favourite.
@@unbelievable_truth_band yep the 86 rig was better in every respect, but I think 84 just had more impact, because of the scale of their ambition and that they had only invented moving lights a few years earlier. Tremendously ambitious. I saw them March 25th in London, and apart from SHBTS, I was a bit disappointed with the lights. Alan Owen and Tom Littrell were a hell of a team..
@@unbelievable_truth_band Yep. I saw them in Montreal in November 1983 and we (my friends and I) were completely blown away by the lights. Best light show I ever saw. (I didn't see the IT tour). The highlight for me was Second Home By The Sea during the guitar solo when the whole rig moved down and the light were all white. It looks very simple compared to what can be done now, but back then, it was astonishing.
Missed this show though I was living in SF at the time. Asked my friend about the Radiohead performance and he replied "They were pretty pop (music)". Wait... WHAT??? Long Live RADIOHEAD
it's Olivier Messiaen's 'Lounge a l'eternité de Jesus', which was originally written by Messiaen for Ondes Martenot. that piece directly inspired the chords on Radiohead's 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor'.
Pleasure! Loved the State Theatre. Played there myself a couple of years back, although you're right the Fillmore branding has robbed it of some of the magic.
In terms of straight lighting, I would agree with you. However there are other designers / shows who I hold in as high esteem, usually pushing the form in different ways. Check out Andi Watson (particularly the Radiohead In Rainbows tour which was incredible andiwatson.format.com/radiohead-in-rainbows) and LeRoy Bennet (top of his game for years - The Cure Wish tour and NiN Lights In The Sky are stunning)
