Peter has a point. As does Russell. Society has some responsibility for an individual choosing to take drugs. And the individual has some responsponsibility for choosing to take drugs. What doesn't help is Brand not making his point clearly enough to allow for debate, and instead dancing around it. And arguably Peter doesn't help by doing the same. I am no fan of Russell but Hitchen's view on drugs is simplistic and reductive. There does not seem to be an understanding from him why people turn to drugs. It can be because of a deep seated trauma in other words societal factors. I am not sure it's just rich kids on the stuff either. A bit of a lack of compassion from Peter on this topic.
