Sound demos and various video resources for the Yamaha Montage, MODX & MODX+, Korg Kronos, Korg Nautilus, Roland Fantom & Fantom-0, Nord Stage 3, Nord Stage 4 and Mainstage.
I started learning this song the other and your programming on this is nothing short of brilliant. Arguably one of the most interesting (and best) performances you've made on the Montage. This is great!
This was a great, extremely informative video with excellent comprehensive tips. Though I don't own a Kronos, I believe the guidance you have presented here will prove equally invaluable in helping me set up my Korg M3 to act as a MIDI controller in conjunction with Gig Performer. A quick initial attempt to compare the external controller functions of the Kronos to my M3 leads me to believe that they are extremely similar, not surprising as the M3 is essentially the predecessor of the Kronos. Taking advantage of the M3's audio interface on the other hand might prove to be more trouble than its worth as the M3 uses the effectively obsolete Firewire protocol for audio routing. But that shouldn't be an issue as I'll just continue to use my Focusrite audio interface. In any case, thanks so much for putting this out!
Gig Performer is a plugin-host geared towards live performance. It’s made to consolidate your virtual and hardware instruments regardless of manufacturer or developer, into performance setups like the Kronos’s Combis, Montage’s Performances or Fantom’s Scenes. It offers a highly flexible, powerful and easy to learn interface that you don’t get from hardware workstations and is only limited by the specifications of your PC or Mac. There are dozens of demos and tutorials from the gig performer RU-vid channel and their Facebook and community on gigperformer.com itself. I have a tutorial on how to setup the Kronos to control GP as a Midi and Audio interface. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OTCga2pqUxw.htmlsi=eBUEx9NejwMX9UVP
No, I don’t think I’ll ever cross over to 100% virtual. Kronos is still my go to, in fact the Kronos is my preferred controller and audio interface for Gig Performer. I did gig with the Fantom-0 and Gig Performer and the show went very smoothly.
I am almost ready for an upgrade, been using Roland Jupiter 50 for 8 years. and I am reaching out for your your advise on the right gear light to carry & good for live sets ? Thank you
The 61 key Montage and Nautilus are great and portable enough. If weight is the main consideration go for the 2nd tier boards such as MODX+ or Fantom-0. A Fantom-0 coupled with a new laptop computer with Gig Performer (performance plugin host) with various synths such from Arturia V-Collection, Kontakt or Roland Cloud makes for a lightweight but sonically powerful combination.
No, it's too limited. That was actually the original plan and it was the reason why I got Astrolab and V-Collection in the first place. Analog Lab could only create a maximum of 2 layered or split sounds and impossible to create the complex setups I do, it also uses up a lot of processing power from the computer considering the limited functionality. Gig Performer could layer and split as many sounds from multiple plugins and VST from different developers in a single platform as your computer can handle. It can even run Analog Lab and treat it as a regular program from within the Gig Performer environment. Check it out, they've got a free 14-Day trial. If you decide to purchase the license, I've got a 10% off affiliate code I could send you.
The setup would be pretty much identical from both the Kronos side and MS side. I prefer GP5 over MS as I find the visual interface to be so much more efficient. It also works for PC as well as Mac and isn’t as resource hungry as MS. I finished a sound pack of 16 songs in less than half the time it would take me to complete a pack on any other platform so that to me is a testament on how easy it is to learn and use. My Africa sound was done literally the day after I downloaded the software for the first time.
Is Gig Performer a DAW like Logic Pro ? I remember tryng to record the songs I made on the Kronos into the Logic sequencer track by track (midi and audio) but it was impossible. Is it the same on Gig Performer ? thanks !
Thank you for this tutorial. Assume that it's a similar process for Mainstage? Asking for all the midiots out there (me included). Also, would the pads on a Nanopad connected to the Kronos also be assignable in Gig Performer or Mainstage?
I'm just getting into Gig Performer so this is just brilliant, thank you! Clear, concise, and straightforward as always. I greatly appreciate your time in putting this together.
