Speaking of Balcones Singles Barrel Rye. I picked up a pick of that from Total Wine in Missouri... it's pretty dang good but unusual - my bottle bottle tastes like a Starbucks macchiato. I have a pick of Peerless Rye from Total Wine and it tastes like Amaretto. Individually both are very interesting pours. Some people put amaretto in coffee so I mixed the two. It was terrible. I don't think Total Wine really spends any time on most of their picks. Given their distribution I suspect they often just buy up whatever barrels they can get at compelling price. Their pricing on picks are usually kind of high. You will get lucky occasionally, like I did on the Peerless Rye. That Peerless Rye Pick was $59.99 while a standard Peerless Rye was sitting next to it on shelf for $89.99. Locally Total Wine also just drops allocated bottles onto the shelf around noon at MSRP. In the past couples months I've snagged Stagg for $52, Jack Daniels Twice Barreled Single Malt for $80, Blood Oath for $130, Bookers for $90, 1792 Full Proof (store pick but only 2 cases) for $50, Rebel 10 for $80, Makers BEP $80, and the normal ECBP and Larceny drops. They put Yamizaki 12 and sometimes even 18 on shelf (even though they put that in the Grand reserve Raffle). I've found all of those bottles over the past 3 months but I've yet to see a single Eagle Rare on shelf at Total Wine ever. Eagle Rare is whatever to me so not a big loss. I gave away the last 2 bottles I found at MSRP.
Cant believe how much dalmore cigar whisky has went up in price....not the biggest fan of it tbh, as i cant look at it without seeing whyte & McKay.. Peaty whiskies like Lagavulin go great with a mild cigar....also Ardbeg coryvrecken too.
Nice review. I picked up both the Green River Bourbon and Green River Wheated Bourbon. Like both of them and you cannot go wrong for $35 each. Definitely easy sipping bourbons. 🥃
