Only thing I was given as a kid was clothing and food, make your kid pay for the game, if he gets off his ass to make the money for that game, let him play it, he'll want the next new game one day, cycle repeats, welcome to life kid
I am still a child, so the parent part has nothing to do with me, but I am in the game development community, and I think this is pretty good. You see, many developers ride on addiction to get monetary value. Of course, all games can be addicting, but many (specifically mobile games) use it on a scientific level studying the behavior of dopamine, so it is important to limit screen time, else addiction finds its way to you.
Here's what I do to set my child up for success...get up 1 hour before they do. Yes...that means 4 or 5 am. When I can start the day with my feet underneath me and my mindset in a positive place, I'm a much better parent.
