Super cool dude! I’m the schmuck that thought he knew how to pronounce “Charnel House” properly, misguidedly, felt compelled to correct you 😂 Anyways man.. Read “The drawing of the dark” (my first powers novel) recently and it was awesome!! Can’t wait to crack this puppy open brother
1:22 -> Jay Anson has written a novel "6 6 6" about a house owned by the devil himself, built with wooden parts from execution sites like gallows, chopping blocks or guillotines. The style is the same. If you allow the unfashionable term, he's an unclean author.
3:46 As a German who knows this part of German history well, the Granville citizens where absolutely justified in killing when they Did in the book, the 30 years war was brutal, and the 17th century mercenaries they thought would have killed them, raped them and stole from them if they Didn’t defend themselves
Thanks for the shout out! The only thing we Aussies love more than being mixed up with New Zealand is being mistaken for Austria! 🇦🇺🦘not 🇦🇹 🤣Lesson learnt - next time we should put Australia proudly on the copyright page!
I love watching your videos, but I have to say - you must spent untold amounts of money on these books. Don't get me wrong - if I had the ability I would be doing something similar. You must be a bitcoin millionaire!
, Les Edwards the cover artist for this cover , Also did the Subterranean Press editions also , Broken Binding has also done the Scar , and also Iron Council , who I gather from Matt (the owner of the broken binding I spoke to personally ), has confirmed that they will use a Les Edwards cover for Iron Council, which will be the first time that the Iron council will have a Les Edwards cover , as at the time of the other UK versions by Pan Macmillian, Iron Council first published in UK in 2007 , wasn't done by Les Edwards
Have you gotten around to the Hades books yet? I read The Spirit of Place as my first book of his and immediately started looking at his back catalog. Almost done with the Hades books now.
Just started reading Essex Dogs today and really enjoying it. Tried 3 different historical writers I've been wanting to read, starting with SJA Turney's 1st book in long series called Marius' Mules, which kinda bored me after 50 pages, then tried Griff Hosker book, which was better, but after 60 pages or so, set it aside. Then Essex Dogs! Instantly grabbed me! Just like you stated, instantly reminded me of earlier Abercrombie books.
You and me both! I'm hoping it'll be in the winter collection this year, but we'll see. It might not help that artist Fay Dalton had a bit of controversy recently after tracing/using another artist's work.
Not yet, but it's in the TBR pile. I'm actually going to have a second copy with different artwork any day now, as it happened to also be Twisted Retreat's book this month.
Consensus Press IS in existence and Flowers for Algernon (short story) was indeed the choice to become their first edition. However, while they were working to obtain the publishing rights they were scooped by Tony Geer, who acquired the rights to publish the full novel for his Conversation Tree Press. When this became known, the Consensus Press abandoned 'Algernon" and moved on to the second choice of the consensus group, the Tale of Sinuhe, an Egyptian tale dating back to 1800 BCE. Obviously, this avoided the problem with obtaining publishing rights and they then proceeded on to the nut and bolts, e.g., binding design, choice of typeface and printer, etc. Finally, all three states (Standard, Deluxe and Lettered) of Treasure Island have quickly sold out. The Deluxe edition with quarter goatskin leather binding and thick, weathered oak boards, to be done by Ludlow Bookbinders, will become an instant classic. it will be near impossible to find in the secondary market and will command a stiff premium over the publisher's original price.
I'm VERY excited about the Deluxe Treasure Island. It was going to be a nice book-neighbor to the Mission Edition of Catch-22 from Amaranthine. Unfortunately, I had ordered the latter from Dark Regions Press, so that might not be happening (I'll buy it directly from Amaranthine if I'm able to get the refund on the DRP order). And that's very exciting to hear that Consensus Press is still a thing! I saw that the website had lapsed, but maybe I had the wrong URL.
Thanks for the video, Sean! Wish you could have made it to Fracassi Frest, it was a blast. The covers are the same weight cardstock, just different color. The paper in the lettered is much nicer than the numbered, but the numbered is still really nice paper. Not your normal printer paper. I wanted these to be nice quality as a collector myself!
I am in total agreement with your excellent review. The Deluxe (numbered) edition of Flowers for Algernon is exceptional and likely to be my finest acquisition in 2024. The book design and execution are flawless - the binding design is beautiful and carefully crafted by Ludlow Bookbinders , the letterpress printing from Hand and Eye Letterpress / Phil Abel is sharp and crisp with a hint of impression into the page and the Madrid Litho 160 gsm paper is nicely opaque, thick and pleasing to the touch. Jacob Dhein's illustrations are a high point, however. The slightly impressionist art captures the wistful, nostalgic element of this novel perfectly. Regarding the limitation, although the colophon states that there are 200 copies of the Deluxe edition, that is incorrect. Tony Geer decided at the last minute to decrease the number of Deluxe copies to 175 but forgot to make this correction in the colophon. Finally, great news for book collectors. Although the Deluxe Numbered and Super-Deluxe Lettered states of 'Algernon' have sold out, copies of the Standard state are still available for the exceptional price of $275 US dollars. Anyone remotely interested in this title should not hesitate to purchase a copy before it goes OOP as well.
My classic edition just arrived on Saturday, it’s fantastic! Manage to order a classic Swan Song last week too 😃 looking forward to your unboxing of the numbered edition!
The Fabian art was old and originally was done for those two specific stories. The Pitts illos appeared in old fanzines. Plenty of Griffin art. I think they came out separately at 65 bucks a piece unsigned. The 5 set will be 500. If they sell out fast then expect some higher prices on the secondary market. Don't think artist are signing the second edition. If they do then I may be swayed. The reprint of The book of the New Sun with added artwork is the one to look out for. The first was only 100 copies signed by Wolfe who has passed. The Folio edition is also sky high being signed before his passing.
Thank you very much for the clarification! The Fabian and Pitts illustrations had 2015 copyright dates, which is why I had assumed they were newer. They likely just refreshed the copyright. And I'll definitely keep an eye out for Book of the New Sun! I'm still kicking myself for not getting the FS limited edition that was signed by Wolfe.
That is correct! 2nd printing should be going on sale this weekend for those that were on a wait-list/interest list. I'm not sure when it might reach a public sale, but I'd recommend asking Jerad if you can get the notification.
