Im looking for a blade cassette for an Atco Balmoral 20S, does the mower cassette for the 20S & 20SE both fit the 20S mower please? also does anyone have one for sale please?
Hi. I can sharpened the reel by backlapping which is good during the mowing season to keep it sharp. But it's not the same as a lathe grinder so one a year it's worth sending the cassette away to get it professionally done
Can you start off , by back lapping with the cylinder fully away from the bottom blade . Or does it need to slightly catch it atleast. If it’s not great weather today , I might having a go 😅
It needs to be slightly touching. The paste then causes an even closer contact. You know it's working because of the noise of the ringing. Then take it a notch closer etc
About 40 years i had a battery mower think it was a suffolk lead acid battery did 2 mows of my lawn before recharge. Have to say it laid nice lines and did a fine cut. Got a new mountfield rotary not as good for a quality lawn. We have gone full circle in my lifetime. Withe the more newer motors and batteries should be fine. My old electric was only push mode.
hi Colin. I sold you my Atco 20 inch last year. Im in Basingstoke. I hope you got it running ok and maybe made some money from it. Its a satisfying hobby getting these machines back into good fettle.
I just struggle to see any of these £2k+ battery machines still running in 50+ years time when you know full well there will still be randomes and atcos running that are donkeys older than that
Totally agree with you Sir, and the price point is going to kill Allett in the long run. You can’t expect people to associate the classic green and red as the Rolex of lawn mowers, because there are American and Australian manufacturers who are just as good quality or better at slightly lower price points.
There is a Lawn Expert video on you tube,he uses Allett mowers. He has just bought a new Kensington with the Honda engine. He is now saying that the Kawasaki engines were problematic, and after a year they will only run on choke, and are hard to start. Have you heard of this?. I have a Kawasaki on my Kensington.
Hi Ray. If looked after properly the Kawasaki is fine. If you use the wrong petrol or leave it in over winter then any mower will struggle. Sounds like he doesn't know how to clean a carb. Having said that the carb on the Kensington is harder to clean than on the Balmoral kawasakis as they switched supplier. Who was the lawn expert. Was it Daniel Hibbert. I rate him but haven't seen any recent videos
Hi. Do you do much mechanical work on your mowers,or is it mostly clean up?. I have limited mechanical knowledge. I once had to buy a mower deck for my Classic and swapped all the components over. It is still running😂. Another great find.
I do all the standard stuff Ray with the many things that can go wrong. But I draw the line at taking the engine to bits. But I've switched engines quite a lot and that's no problem
I bought a 10 blade some time ago,got it on ebay with a cheaky £65 offer, and it was accepted. I dont think they realised the value of it. Fitted 2 new bearings, sharpened and painted it. Used only a couple of time, didn't really see the benefit on my lawns. Been sitting on the garage wall for a long time. I was thinkg of selling it but scared to part with it😂.
Yes I'll get a battery on it. Good point. The Allett Classic was cleaned with wd40 and a course green scouring pad. I buy the 5L wd40 containers which come with a spraying applicator.
@@mowerboy7914 Oh wow that's a serious wash down! Has come up nice! Thanks for that info, not sure the missus would let me do that in our garden though lol :)
@@mowerboy7914 😃 I may have to give that a go on a small area to start with on my Qualcast 35s I picked up for £60. Maybe next year I'll pick up a much better looking one.
Hi Richard. If you have a lawn up to 150 sq m then Atco Balmoral 14sk. Bigger than that upto 300 sqm an Atco Balmoral 17sk if you can find one under 500 (fully serviced). Or the Suffolk Punch 17sk. All have the Kawasaki engine
This was a handy video as I am looking into a secondhand cylinder mower and I wasn't sure if you could get a 14" scarifier cassette. I wonder if you can get a 14" verticutting cartridge too?
Hi Luke. Yes these type of mowers take several cassettes including scarifier, verticutter, Dethatcher, 10 blade, aerator and lawn brush. Getting them second hand isn't easy (except the scarifier)
It's probably the poorest of all the cassettes, I only ever used mine once. Nice tidy machine though, I keep toying with the idea of going battery but I'm still unsure, I still like my Balmoral 20sk.
I'm sorry but these parts are no longer manufactured. You'll need to find one from the guys who buy and break up Balmorals. There is a guy called Spaceman on ebay who may be able to help. I'll get him to contact you
@@user-ip6oq8cj5i After a good clean I use wet and dry sandpaper on the faded area. If there are scratch marks then a coarser grade of normal sandpaper first (test via the underneath of the side panel). I then spray with clear lacquer. 3 coats. I do the same with the petrol tank and any other plastic parts
The Suffolk Punch due to the Kawasaki engine. They are both very good mowers. If I was asked about the Atco Balmoral 14sk vs Suffolk Punch 14sk I would always go for the Atco as it us such a quality build and finish
@@thetruthfulone73 the 43S are a good solid mower that will leave nice stripes on your lawn. I personally don't buy and sell them as there isn't much money in it
