American Trucking Associations is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry. Through a federation of 50 affiliated state trucking associations and industry-related conferences and councils, ATA is the voice of the industry America depends on most to move our nation's freight. Good stuff. Trucks Bring It!
Free parking almost everywhere vs paid parking to gain back investments. How does that make sense? According to the free market, if someone sees opportunity, they will take it. Truck stops have tons of parking and are private but why is there a parking shortage?
Instead of doling out all of that government money of which 2/3s will disappear between the grant and the project how about the government mandate the states provide adequate parking along the interstates as part of their requirements to receive federal highway money. Allow states to provide incentives to private businesses to build and maintain truck parking. In many localities the local city, county or state government will tax the parking lot owner for processing storm water runoff; that money is collected by an assessment per square foot of impervious surface and unfortunately some municipalities have used storm water fees as a cash cow. If states refuse to build parking calculate how much parking is needed and allow the federal government to establish tax free zones where public truck parking land is exempt from storm water and property taxes. This would give state and local governments to plan for parking and either provide it on the tax funds or forego the tax revenue on those locations that are providing parking with private funds.
youl get killed parked along the side of the road......because the drivers of small vehicles keep staring at the big thing park along side the road.....and keep staring at it right until they see the big thing is a transport truck then they end up underneath the rear end of the trailer,,,,then the other car follows straight in also,,,,,
The government doesn't care, they constantly close off areas we could park. Abandoned scale houses, rest areas. They put no overnight parking at rest areas.
I operated a heavy Haul buisness for a few years, the worst part was finding spots to park. I would find myself in impossible routs with absoluty no where to pull over and park, a few occasions I incurred fines by the police for continuing past curfew. Sending large trucks for extremely long distances with no parking left ne with no choice but to continue driving. I quite trucking because of tgis and the government. Its a horrible situation for trucks
people are already sick and tired of the arrogant truck driver trope. don't make it worse. most trucks on the road are transporting junk anyway. logistics needs to be made more efficient, not given a blank check to do whatever they want in a runaway trash economy
I spent 40 years dealing with this, and the false claims of a driver shortage, low wages and no wages this will never change, I'm glad I'm out of it, but don't despair our government at some point will import immigrants from third world shit hole country's to drive our trucks, from African Muslim countries central America who will but 3 person teams to run non stop they will cut holes in the floors of the trucks to urinate and defecate on the highways so they don't have to stop, oh wait nevermind they already allowed this.
End the ELD an allow us to rest when tired, not being told WHEN to park. The ATA is a joke and nothing more than a puppet to Mega Carriers. Kick the ATA , brokers, and Gov't intervention to the curb and just let us do our job.
What is unclear to me is: if this is such a large problem, private enterprise would build the spaces and charge for the use of them. So, it seems me that what the trucking industry wants is FREE spaces built by the taxpayer to further subsidize the industry. Well, that’s fine, I guess. But let’s have an honest and frank discussion about that.
The problem with private owners building more spots is that the value of the land is too high. So the taxing authorities make it difficult to do that. Also people don't want trucks in their backyard.
@@chuckshaffer1940 the “problem” of the land value being too high isn’t the “problem”. Rather, it exemplifies my point. In order to make valuable land pay when it’s turned into truck parking, the costs for parking will need to be “high.” The trucking industry doesn’t want to have to front those costs. Soooooo, they want the taxpayer to buy that expensive land, turn it into truck parking, and let the industry use it for free. Brilliant. Internalize the profits and externalize the costs. Brilliant if you can do it.
@Dave-my1we , I know of several truckstops that have been lost because of land values. There used to be a stop in Federalway WA that is a strip mall now. The reason is what I pointed out.
@@chuckshaffer1940 you are again proving my point. If, say, truckers were willing to pay $1000 per night to park (a ridiculous example, I know, but it amplifies the point), the owners of that land would NOT have converted to a strip mall. If truckers were willing to pay more….. it would still be a truck stop. What the trucking industry wants is for the TAXPAYER to buy “expensive land” and let truckers park for free. If they can get away with that, great for them.
Smaller trucks! Make the most of the space you have - phase out 53' trailers and bring back cabovers. Make the trailers more space-efficient by destandardizing loading dock heights so trailer manufacturers can compete on floor lowness the way the makers of urban transit buses do, and truck manufacturers can compete on making the tongue height lower.
After doing some research this is the former Utah State Trooper Lisa Steed. She was fired and lost a lawsuit for falsely arresting innocent people for DUI. Hard to believe anybody would allow her to represent there brand.
And then police act in a predatory manner and cite drivers not in legit spots in rest areas. And then you have states like Massachusetts that lock the door to the rest room in the rest areas from dusk to dawn. I NEVER received a parking ticket for parking on a ramp shoulder or a rest area shoulder until after the eld mandate took effect. Absolutely predatory.
Wow, 700 million. Big whoop. Meanwhile, we've spent over 200 BILLION DOLLARS to fight a war in Ukraine that we aren't even involved in. Yet we can't spend 1 billion to help our nations truck drivers find a safe place to park. It's time to get this worthless POS out of the white house and get real legislation passed.
Everyday I drive this is always a issue.Worst State is California.Colorado is pretty bad to..Nevada not that great either. And the fucking cops suck..They dont even understand ELDs or that we cant move the truck or it starts our HOS over on the ELDs..Fuck them cops too.
OK, I'll say it. We have the ONLY plan that will address this problem aggressively and fix it from within, without Chapstick and ass kissing. All of these so-called trucking publications, advocacy and agencies need to draw a line in the sand. Are you trucking or are you BROKERING. So many of these "Trucking" industry experts have bent the knee to brokers because they can't imagine what we are going to do. I hope that they will all ralley behind us simply because we have trucking, carriers and drivers at the core of our creation. No room for brokers.
This is just wild to me. Most cities/villages/towns have a minimum parking space requirement to stipulate the number of spots based on a buildings square footage and zoning type. I’ve been seeing this truck parking crisis in the news and I’m glad to see it’s gaining more attention.
Lisa Steed has ruined countless people lives and reputations for her own clout and recognition. Recognizing her publicly does not look good. She is a danger to the public in whatever she does.
So true! The trucking industry is critical. Thanks to the Technicians that maintain the trucks to keep all the drivers safe on the road. And without those techs the deliveries would stop. Right on ATA we appreciate you! #WhenTechsRockAmericaRolls #TechForce #techniciancareers #scholarships
She is obsessed with controlling the Trucking industry. That’s what she is working on. Any politician that will refuse to answer a simple yes or no question has dirty deeds under the table that they want to bring to Life
Economically, EV's are 3x-5x more expensive then conventional. EV's require, first, a suitable grid, VERY expensive batteries, replacement batteries that cost nearly 50% of the original price of the EV, new and expensively designed tires for EV use. The cost and time to operate across road will increase significantly. EV's are limited to frequent stops for charging, versus the short time of filling fuel. Load capacity will decrease significantly with EV's. Costs and delays, will be passed over to the consumer with EV's. These are just some of the reasons to NOT employ EV technology. This doesn't address the safety problems!
*sigh* you want to know what is currently available that would be quite effective? say it with me guys TRAINS!!! then the last mile can be done with smaller, lighter box trucks and for small packages and standard letters and post... electric scooters. For those that need a specialist touch, yes by all means go balls to the walls on spending, look for methods to make it easier to build and of course bring specialist equipment but the majority would be smaller trucks and light weight scooters. Hence why back in the day they created many, many post offices because shorter trips are far better. For those that don't understand this business method and fear your company will die, don't worry I'm sure your assets will be purchased at discount rates come time for the foreclosure.
These things are such a joke. Double the price, hauls about 60% of a truckload, and you need MEGAWATTS to charge them. A megawatt is a 1204 amp, 480 volt, three phase circuit. They have the general public believing that this thing is going to be like installing a level 2 charger for your car in your garage
We're at least a decade away from E V's to be practical, probably more. If and when E V's of all types become practical and affordable the products will sell themselves.
We are a flooring contracting company and now are threatened with becoming an employee contracting our installation services with flooring stores. We work for many stores and have our own clientele. It is unbelievable.
Hey this is YOU in these videos isnt it? Did you arrest a bunch of innocent people for DUI and get busted for lying about all of them? You even tazed someone you falesly accused didnt you? I was blown aeay to see you being a spokesperson for ANYTHING after all the innocent lives you affected.... No shame I guess. Very narcissistic it feels like. Craaaaaaazy!!!!
We need to ban together and do a shutdown until until the put are gun rights back in place. we lose the 2a, and the country is over. Illinois is going to make 2 million lawbiding citizens felons. We need to stop it. We have the power, not them
according to Ralph Nader your unsafe at any speed, I believe you have a right to travel at whatever speed you as the driver are comfortable with.. And if it is slower than others, stay in the far right lanes make highways like the autobahn
