Hed Mayner started sewing at the age of 16, making his own patterns and garments. He later studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design on the West Bank of Jerusalem, before moving to Paris where he enrolled at the prestigious Institut Français de la Mode. Living in the French capital allowed him to discover new aspects of fashion and style, as well as hone his design skills and enrich his own aesthetics.
The sacred and the traditional are both part of Mayner's world, as well as a passion for authentic menswear pieces, which he likes to twist and rework. His clothes can be passed on from father to son, escaping the transient nature of designer fashion. Focusing on a substantial and stylish wardrobe of everyday separates, his debut collection emphasizes comfort and self-expression, underlining the universal appeal of archetypal clothes.
HED MAYNER is probably the most brilliant design talent that far too many have never heard of. His clothes make so much sense and are deceptively wearable by a broad range of individuals. They look like they would actually be fun to wear. Pared down but not boring, complicated yet simple. They are also beautifully made and his fabrics never disappoint. NO ONE does complicated volumes better, no one. This presentation was far too short and left me wanting more, much more. I can imagine the "BIGS" have tried to buy him and he's stuck with trusting himself. His work stuns and calms at the same moment. Sublime.
For those thinking about getting on the bandwagon of the caricature-ishly oversized looks presented here, that have been overhyped and pushed to the forefront by not a few major designer brands for a few seasons now, think as many times into the very near future and what you'd do with those items in your closet when fashion turns around, as it invariably does, and goes into the opposite direction.
In case anyone has missed it, Hed Mayner has been way ahead of other designers in capturing what so many, myself included are really looking for and it’s not hyper feminized men’s wear with flowing sheer halter tops and foolish embellishments. For that past several years we’ve been choking on excessive fancy and overdone. Easy, relaxed, comfortable, multipurpose is it. He’d Mayner captures this brilliantly and still leaves room for design forward. Love it all.
He’d Mayner is truly gifted. Just let it flow and there are literally dozens of fk’ing great pieces here, that could be worn by many types, sorry they didn’t allow for that. Proportions are fresh, crisp and I want way more of this than more Polo, no disrespect. Very impressive. Coats, jackets, sweaters off the chart.
something is off. it is like a reality very very close to the one i am used to so it tries to trick me. the little weird details and draping suggest perhaps it is a dream or a similar alternate reality where everything is the same as it is in the real world but slightly askew. it is normal if you squint your eyes but when it comes into focus it is odd. maybe in a good way. thanks.
